I don't what is considered a safe distance... I would call the manufacturer of the wires find out what yours are rated at for temp and ask them. I usually just make a heat shield out of sheet metal that the wires can lay on to keep them away from the headers. I have also used thermal boots near the ends that are already sewn to accommodate the 90* bend.
BTW-that propane heater you have in the last pic is awesome. My buddy got one for his garage when we are there working and it heats things up super fast!

Hey Adam thanks for the reply. I'm going to get a roll of thermal heat tape from summit 1.5"X14' that way I can do the plug wires and just about anything else that needs it. yea those heat my garage up nice. I usually start it then start a fire in the wood stove, once the fires goin I shut down the propane heat.

Hey heeroyue, I lease Ice machine as a side business, as well as refrigeration repair. sometimes keeps me too busy.

Thanks Johnny, It's just rattle can rustoleum hammered finish black. I sprayed several light coats so I wouldn't get too much hammered effect. then sprayed the blower motor satin black.

I never posted any pics of the truck still together besides the first post. before I took it apart I had finished a good deal of the bodywork. In these pics I still had not done the rocker panels or the drivers fender.

Coming right along, seems like you can never get enough practice with metal work and there is always something new to learn...

Thanks Adam, At least with classic Chevy steel you can work with it without it falling apart. That fender was in such good shape everywhere else, I didn't mind putting some extra time in to fix it.:chevy:

Finally got to do some work in the garage. too bad most of it was cleaning up/making room. I did get the alt. bracket installed. it turned out ok and I can get the valve cover off without removing the alt. bracket now.:metal:

Great looking project, nice job with all of the little details....they'll all come together and make you truck stand out once its complete. I'm in a very similar spot in my build, I look forward to progress.

Digging the build so far. Brought up a lot of detail I had not thought about. Can I ask about your sandblasting setup? Spent 3 hours trying to get my compressor and blaster to like each other...finally gave up and went to wire wheels. Blaster is going back to the store

Thanks ChevyNewb, I'll put a pic of my blaster setup on here later, but I can tell you moisture is your worst enemy when blasting. my blaster nozzle clogged up about every 3 sec. until I used a moisture trap at the gun.

I use one at the compressor and one at the tank and have run it for 6 hours straight without a hiccup... might try that as it is easier and lighter than at the gun!

Hey Adam, I have one at the tank also. I use one at the gun too as insurance. (better safe than sorry). I had a drop of water come through when I was painting one time, so I started using one at the gun, and it's never happened again.
Attachment 925422 moisture trap at the gun. sorry for the ugly pic.
