Pretty excited about this one. Figured I would get a thread going on this one. She pretty much fell onto my lap. I called my buddy one day to ask about a favor on a marketplace deal in his town. Deal fell thru but in our conversation he was telling me he was picking up a clean 72. He sent a couple pics. Right away I asked "want to sell it" He said yea maybe.. he sent me some pics the seller sent him.. after seeing them I could tell the truck was in pretty good shape.

Story on the truck was that it had been at a mechanic shop for several years, Owner got tired of it and sold it to the mechanic. Mechanic didn't do anything with it so he sold it as well.

A few days later me and my son were on our way to Tyler, Tx. After seeing the truck in person, I was was pretty happy to see that the rust was very minimal. Passenger side rocker and cab corner needed to be replaced as well as a small section of the floor pan by the rockers. That was it. It had some great patina. Even though I wasn't a fan of long beds, I knew this truck was a solid candidate for a shortbed conversion. We loaded up in near triple digit heat and headed back south to Houston.

I dropped it off at my parents house cause I needed to make room at my house and I needed to sell another 72 longbed that I had been holding on to before I started wrenching on it. But I did throw on some clean rally's with whitewalls and I cleaned out the bed. It looked good I must say. It had the Window cover which I thought was pretty cool so I put it on the windshield.

A couple weeks went by, I finally sold this other 72 longbed I had. First thing I did was set an Appt with Mr. Esparza to get the bed cut down. The very next week I went to pick up Betty for her appointment. I pulled the camper shell off. I was happy to see that the top of the bedsides were not rusted out

Once I got her home the first order of business was to give her a CLR bath. This was the first time I washed her. She cleans up nice.

Next order of business is to get it running. The wiring looks like a rats nest so hopefully its not too bad. We will see.

Cleaned up and dirt and grime.. Prepping it for the POR 15 Top Coat Paint.. I like using the top coat. Its much easier to lay down and touch up.. plus its pretty good against oil and grease. This isnt a show truck, just a nice daily so upkeep wont be so badAttachment 2331302
