Engine compartment transformed in 12 days

Let's talk about opening a can of worms. I made the mistake of taking my jack out, cleaned and painted it and put it back in. This started everything. I then started on the firewall and before you know it the motor. Not bad for 12 days of none stop cleaning, sandblasting, wire wheeling and painting.

How did you go about that? Did you pull the motor or just the surrounding parts? Looks great by the way.

Holy crap, man! Amazing job. I too would like to know to what lengths you had to go to achieve that. What did you end up just throwing away and replacing? Did you get all new bolts and such? Hoses? Alternator?

Just amazing.

By the way, do you have any more photos of your entire truck? I've been drooling over your avatar for some time now. Love the hubcaps and stance.

Re: Engine compartment transformed in 12 days

No I didn't have to pull the engine just spent many hours hanging over the fenders. It wasn't so bad with the hood and hinges off. I used Eastwoods spray gray under the actual hood and eastwoods zinc phosphate on the hinges, hood latch and master cylinder. All the nuts and bolts I sand blasted and used eastwoods satin diamond clear spray on them. I also used eastwoods brush on factory gray exhaust paint they came out perfect after I blasted them too.

its incredible how in 12 days you maked it a show condition engine bay

Re: Engine compartment transformed in 12 days

I was going to get the brackets, aircleaner and valvecovers powder coated and decided to try eastwoods under hood black and was pleased. I used the Dupli-Color Engine enamel spray and was pleased with the results. Sandblasting the parts before you rattle can them is key.

very nice work indeed. I know looking at the engine bay of my truck yesterday it looked like a daunting cleanup task, and it didn't have the engine in it!

did you remove the fender wells to paint them, or just careful masking?

You did an AWESOME job Yezzi! The engine compartment looks amazing. And in just 12 days, wow! Did you remove the inner fenders and the intake? I know you said you sandblasted them but did you put them in a cabinet or use a spot blaster? By the way, your rattle can work is superb.lol

Thanks again!

I didn't remove the fenders or the fender wells I just used a lot of tape. I used a sandblast cabinet with black slag media on all the brackets, pulleys, exhaust manifolds, etc. I replaced a lot of the nuts and bolts with grade 8 and blasted them to bare steel and satin cleared them to match. It gave that OE raw look. I also used the eastwood satin clear on the firewall to inhance everything.
