It's has offically started, the carriage in front of the horse literally...........
1968 Suburban 4X4, 327, SM465, NP205. waiting on reliable car hauler to bring her home from AZ, that's another "long story!" One very sweet, clean and straight tailgate arrive yesterday via Greyhound from Sharpie. Thanks! Picked up a 1969 4 speed and T-case from a friend thats in great shape mechanically for $125, time to clean and paint. I need to find somebody who can match my keys for the tailgate lock. More pics will follow soon! |
Re: Project "Daa BURB" - 1968 Chevy C10 4X4 Suburban
Did you not have an original lock for your tailgate? Most local mom-n-pop locksmith shops can do the deed for a fair price. I had it done for my wifes Scout a few years ago.
Is your t-case for sure the NP205 or is it the Rockwell 221? We definitely need more pictures of your rig!!! |
Re: Project "Daa BURB" - 1968 Chevy C10 4X4 Suburban
T-case is a 205, my preference over a 221 for strength and parts availability.
More pics to follow.... |

None of those are like my original 68 T-case shifter boot, and I haven't found a good reproduction of a 67/68 T-case boot yet.

Re: Project "Daa BURB" - 1968 Chevy C10 4X4 Suburban
Just a thought...
If you are tearing down your burb for resto and paint, take the side trim off from the front doors back and send them to Mar-K. I heard that they are looking for OEM 67-68 burb side trim to reproduce! I hope so, because I need the little piece between the 3rd door and the rear wheel well. Who knows, maybe they will give you all new trim for your trouble? |
Re: Project "Daa BURB" - 1968 Chevy C10 4X4 Suburban

Here is the pic you requested.
Pay no mind to the mess, I am getting ready to tear into the interior when the weather starts behaving. |
Re: Project "Daa BURB" - 1968 Chevy C10 4X4 Suburban
Vectorit, Your picture reminded me... In my 69 GMC with the 221, the t-case boot was the same as the boot pictured in the middle. It fit OK, but it was ripped. I adapted a boot off a 80's model NP208 since the shift pattern was the same. I turned the plastic bezel around and flipped indicator lens. I wish I had pictures of it... The tranny and t-case are in my 65 in Cali, maybe I will take a picture of it when I move back!

Idea for 67-68 wrinkle black glove box...
I placed the glove box in direct sunlight for hour or so to gain as much heat as possible. The hotter the better, very quick flash for solvents giving Very Flat appearance. Quick and easy attempt using Eastwood's Alum-blast for edges and Krylon flat black center. |
