Re: The rare "Red Seat"
Rare red seat?
can you give more information about them? |
Re: The rare "Red Seat"

|
Re: The rare "Red Seat"

These seats are very seldom seen. They are definitely worth something, but it's not like each one came with a gold bar sewn into it.
I'm not sure if the ad copy is correct in that it reads like you automatically got the red seat if you bought a red, white, or gray truck. I think I've seen plenty of trucks in those colors with a regular fawn seat. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. |
Re: The rare "Red Seat"
Is that duct tape on the rocker panel and fender?
|
Re: The rare "Red Seat"
I have a red seat in my truck that looks just like it but it has a seat cover over it. i was just reading this thread and kinda got to thinking i have never really pulled the seat cover completly off but i saw this and ran out to the truck ripped off the cover and to my what did appear before my eyes was that same seat pattern. that kinda made my day.
ill post pics tomorrow |
Re: The rare "Red Seat"
Kinda wondering what happened to the right side of the bed. That's a nasty looking repair.
|
Re: The rare "Red Seat"
Just curios as to exactly how rare this seat is and yes I now plan on keeping mine since I know it is not common I just want to know more about what I have. Is it rare to the poin that you guys have never actually seen one in person or what's the deal with it I'm just curious

doesnt look like a repair, looks like a hinged door for loading/unloading small livestock, maybe chickens or pigs. looks like an extra bed side is included. |
Re: The rare "Red Seat"
My '63 Custom Cab has the Custom Comfort option...but the seat upholestry is long gone !!

I found this at the local salvage yard. Looks pretty close.

Re: The rare "Red Seat"
Definately a red seat is few and far between but unless it is perfect it is not really worth anything.
|
Re: The rare "Red Seat"
One of the local guys here has 2 trucks, both have the red seat. He didn't even know they were rare when he got them. Found out about it later. Neither one is perfect, but the one is pretty decent.

Re: The rare "Red Seat"
I saw pics of a crew can conversion last week that had front and rear red seats! I'll see if I can find that pic again and post it here.

I'm going to try to clean this one up--didn't know much about these until I came across this thread. This seat was in a 65 C20 I recently bought.

Re: The rare "Red Seat"
Wow, that one looks like it is in pretty nice shape.

here is a picture of my red seat. I got it done at Vics Upholstery in Tulare. It's a Variation of the custom comfort seat. the bottom panel is red and black nylon to match the red in the cab, ( if I ever get off my lazy a** and finish), and the black carpet.

Re: The rare "Red Seat"
For some one doing a correct restore on a suburban, those might be gold! lol

Cool find. They are rare indeed. Never seen a set in a suburban before. However, since they are kinda toasty, there worth isn't any greater than regular fawn seat cores. Check the factory brochure below.
|
Re: The rare "Red Seat"
Yeah kinda toasty, but great templates to have recovered.
|
Re: The rare "Red Seat"
I thought of this thread as soon as I spotted them.. They belong to a friend. He's doing a pro-level build so they'll end up with custom upholstery. I'll get him to save the skins for templates.
Q for the 3-row burb guys; Aside from the arm rest and mounting, is the narrow 2nd row seat the same as the driver's seat? |

Re: The rare "Red Seat"
Pretty sure it's been repainted. There's no red-oxide layer showing where the paint was sanded prior to it being shortened to Tahoe proportions -just gray primer. That all happened before he got it. It's baby blue that he thinks is close to the original. It's all one color but since it's a repaint, who knows if'n it was 2-toned.
It has the Custom options; fancy steering wheel, part of the Custom trim is still in place on the door, chrome bumpers and bright grille -not sure if it's chrome or 'lunamum. I'll take a closer look next time I'm over there, check the trim tag, etc. I think it's a '65, the spokes on the steering wheel are straight across. I think '66 custom wheel they were angled, or do I have it backward? |
Re: The rare "Red Seat"
They are basically the same, except the 2nd row seat has a small notch to clear the wheel well.

Re: The rare "Red Seat"
oem4me - was the red seat an option or was it included with certain exterior colors?

Just unloaded my new burb project and low and behold in the back with all the other crap was one of those talked about red seats! It was covered over with some weird alligator looking fabric.
Not very good shape but still a red seat. regads |
Re: The rare "Red Seat"
Sweet!

Re: The rare "Red Seat"
I dont know how accurate or true this is, but I was told that the "red" seat was an option on the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks/burbs/panels that were painted either silver or white. These "red" seats had extra padding to be more comfortable and were a dealer special. It was not a "request-able" option.
I got this from an old chevy dealer (neighbor of a friend). But my friend says that he is starting to get a little senile. Take it for what it is worth. http://i1052.photobucket.com/albums/...ismark/019.jpg http://i1052.photobucket.com/albums/...ismark/009.jpg |
