Knomadd's '65 GTO (Royal Goat)
1 Attachment(s)
I thought you guys might like to see my first love... My 1965 Pontiac GTO. I've had her since 1998 and have done most of the work myself. She used to be white and had a LeMans 326 c.i.d. 2bbl and 2 speed "Super Turbine 300" paper weight. Power now comes from a 1968 Pontiac 400/TH400 combo out of a Bonneville. I had the trans rebuilt since there are thousands of little parts to lose and I wasn't comfortable attempting it myself. Did the engine while I was in college and swapped it out in my parents garage. here she is now...

Nice GTO. 65's are my favorite year Goat. But then I'm biased towards the old Pontiacs anyway.

2 night shots,a student volunteer keepin an eye on it and the next day ,of the show I laughingly told a few guys it only took him an hour and a half to drive it down from Toronto cause he had to slow down to turn on the 416 after the 401 a couple gave me strange looks and smiled, some said man it must fly (normally 4-5 hours at speed limit) lol got a clip on my phone i'll try to post..... |
Re: Knomadd's '65 GTO (Royal Goat)

If you're ever in the mood to take a trip to Bend Oregon on Memorial Day weekend (always the same time every year) you should check out Tiger Run. They have a few events from Friday evening cruise-in, show on Saturday, and drag races on Sunday. Check out http://www.goatherd.com for more info if you're interested.

Re: Knomadd's '65 GTO (Royal Goat)
The A/C low pressure port worked its way loose from the compressor 2 Saturdays ago. Took it in to get it vacuum tested for leaks and to pull the humidity out, then recharge the system. Hopefully there isn't anything else wrong with it.

Re: Knomadd's '65 GTO (Royal Goat)
Nice car, knomadd!
I LOVE the '60s Pontiacs, and I've had quite a few of them. I owned a '65 GTO (389, 4-spd, 3.55s, "K" code paint (Reef Turquoise), blk interior) and even had a '65 LeMans (326, 2-spd, "w" paint code (Bluemist Slate). I bought the LeMans as a parts car for the GTO, but it was too nice to part out so I drove it while I was building the GTO. I wound selling them both as a package. Great cars, and I still think about those two all the time. |
Re: Knomadd's '65 GTO (Royal Goat)
Very nice ride! What is the name of that color?

Went to a car show in Damon, TX today. Here are a couple of shots from the show. The GTO won best 60's. Not bad for a small show.

I started rebuilding a tripower setup I bought for it a year or two ago. Here's some progress...

I still need to paint the intake manifold (it's in primer now). This is what they all started out like.

Re: Knomadd's '65 GTO (Royal Goat)
If any of you come across a factory GTO hood for sale from a 65-67, like the pictures on the first page, would you let me know? I'm looking for a spare. It doesn't have to be in excellent shape, but not a lot of rust or major damage. I'd rather do factory vs. these repop garbage so I won't have a ton of extra work to get it to fit, but if anyone knows of a good repop, I'll consider it too.
Thanks, |

Re: Knomadd's '65 GTO (Royal Goat)
Just in case any of you are curious, I'm still making changes to the GTO. Bought a new set of Dakota Digital VHX gauges in black alloy face.

I'll have to take a look at your looong version when I've got time at home. I've read the first 8 or so posts and it sounds like a cool story. Thanks for sharing!

I was playing with MS Paint today and tried to put the future wheels on the GTO to get a better idea of how it would look. This is the result, probably not very accurate, but fairly close. What do you think?
|
Re: Knomadd's '65 GTO (Royal Goat)
I like it.. Always have been a fan of split spoke styled wheels..
|
Re: Knomadd's '65 GTO (Royal Goat)
Well, I changed my mind and went with a different wheel. Travis with azproperformance.com helped me with all my measurements and ordering the wheels. Placed the order this morning for these:
http://www.mhtwheels.com/cms_images/...-MILNER700.png 18x8's up front and 18x9's out back. I like the style and overall look a lot. Plus, I think they'll hold up over time without getting dated so fast as the Foose Knuckle's I was going to get. They're cheaper than the Foose wheels too. I was able to save enough to buy one for a spare! |
Re: Knomadd's '65 GTO (Royal Goat)
Nice looking wheels, can't wait to see them mounted up
|
Re: Knomadd's '65 GTO (Royal Goat)
Thanks Keith, you and me both!
