Here is a couple pictures of my 46 in progress. It started life as a 1 1/2 ton firetruck and now the cab is being installed on a S10 frame.

ALRIGHT! Another thread, and with more pictures.

Did anyone else notice that the metallic orange '46 above has had the signals removed from the top of the headlight housings. I don't really care for the makeshift signals mounted underneath the front but I wouldn't mind doing this and using the headlights I've seen that have the signals built in at the bottom. I also have thought of shortening the front of the headlight housing about 3/4"-1" so they don't give quite the appearance of being bug-eyed as they do stock. Opinion?

Oops, I forgot to add pictures. I've got a feeling this may become the official pre-'47 photo thread.

Here's a few; none of which are mine but all ones I've admired enough to save.

3/4" in height on the buckets?Like setting them down into the fender a bit?Might look good. It`s sutle.I see a lot of guys try to change that bug-eyed look and it`s a big mistake,IMO.It is what it is and vehicles back then all had the fender top-mounted lights. They just belong. The next trend was to put them into the fenders, but other changes in styling/proportions were made, too.

No, NOT in height.

If you look at the red truck above with the wood bed stakes you can see that the headlight pods stick out about an inch from the front of the truck and then the chrome headlight ring starts. If I did the mod; and it's a big if, it would be to take a 1" section out of the pod so that chrome headlight ring started right at the body instead of the pod jutting out an inch. Still buggie - but just a little less bug-eyed.

Kabwe, If you're still watching this thread, I'd like to hear your opinion? I just bought a used Hobart 140 MIG welder - though it's been 20 years since I welded, and then it was stick welding - I'm thinking if I take my time and watch the heat that a mild mod like this would be within my limited abilities. What do you think of the idea and of my chances of pulling it off successfully?

I`d say it`s Woodland Green. It`s a timeless color that is still used in the fleet paint program.In`72 it was code# 504,I believe, and also known as Dark Green.I`ve had a`50,`72 Blazer, and my`92 K3500 I ordered in that color (the only one of it`s kind) to carry the tradition on.

Here's my 39 that I got a few months ago. This pic was taken just before I loaded her up.

Todd68Chevy, how 'bout more info on yours? That's kinda what I was thinking for my 1.5 ton, but I was concerned how it would look with the wide front fender opening.

Here's mine....

63&64 BOWTIES, If you have not already seen, LIZ did move my truck pictures to its own thread labeled TODD68CHEVY in this section. I added some more pictures in that thread. I also added some comments in your thread. Feel free to ask any questions and I will answer the best I can. If you look at my pictures you can see how small a reg. 15" looks but you could go with a larger wheel and tire and probably make it look ok. I am modifying 1/2 ton fenders to work with the lower running boards so mine will have smaller openings. If you used 1/2 running boards I think 1/2 ton fenders will bolt up. I need the lower running boards to cover the frame. The 1993 S10 frame I used was also to wide and the engine and transmission locations were not correct so all that had to be modified. Thanks, Todd

Nice GMC, I wish I could find a GMC grille for my 46, I really like the looks of it. Hey SPECIAL-K in that picture with the Elcamino, I also noticed a banner in the back ground that says "Welcome to the 11th annual Chevy / GMC truck Nationals" --Where and When is that? How big of a show is it? I think I need to go to that. Thanks, Todd

Nice! I used to have the saying,"Scattered grains are beautiful" in my signature and these years come to mind, especially. It`s a reference to the nitty gritty of metal shaping...shaping is scattering grains of steel.

Oh man, I like this color scheme. I had pretty much decided I did NOT want a two tone unless it was the more modern: One color on the fenders AND body below the belt line and then the other color above it. But this looks so "old school cool" Especially with the contrasting steelies and beauty rings. EXCELLENT!

Anyone know the actual name of that color of green?

Re: Thread #2: Early Hauler Pictures...

I am not real good on 37's or GMC's but my guess is hood, front fenders, grill, grill shell, windshield laid back, door handles removed and hidden door hinges. I like the mirrors also. Very nice truck. What is in it for power?

Sitting on a later frame?Boxed the running board/filler panel around it and louvered above that.

You guys have spotted a lot of stuff, but this is what has been missed at this point.
No louvering has been done that I know of.
The frame is original, however it has been stretched.
Bed has been stretched.
My uncle is a big man so the Cab has been stretched and widened so he and my aunt can sit in the truck confortably to travel around the US pulling a fith wheel trailer behind it.
Nose has been stretched and I believe tilted back a little.
Custom Stainless steel grill inserts.
May other things have been done that can't be seen, like the custom interior, lator model strait front axle (47-55 I believe), front wheel disk brakes, custom dana 44 rear end with custom 4 wheel drive hubs so he can use the dual bearing design to better handle the fith wheel.

The engine (I believe) is a 55, 302 bored to a 310 in-line 6, with hand made headers and hand made aluminum 6 pack intake manifold. (Pumps out 300 ponies)
This truck is a workhorse. If he isn't tinkering on it, he is driving it..lol WES

Re: Thread #2: Early Hauler Pictures...

Very nice truck. I have some questions about the cab. I am stretching the cab on a 1946 Chevy and would like to know more about it. How much was the cab stretched? Was it in the doors? Was the front of the cab widened or just the rear because of the stretched cab? Could I get a straight on side picture? Thanks, Todd

Classic Heartbeat 02-03-2010 03:38 PM

Re: Thread #2: Early Hauler Pictures...

I am sorry, but I don't have any side pictures. It was stretched 4" in the cowl for more leg room and 4" at the doors so that it wouldn't look like a stretched cab when done. The windshield was laid back 4" also however I was mistaked about it being widened. I talked to him and told him I had someone asking questions about it and he said that he would be happy to answer them via email if you like. His email address is: nesscrafters@comcast.net This way he can tell you exactly what he did because I wasn't around for the entire build. WES
