Re: my 1970 blazer build=4wd to 2wd
looking good, sorry I'm not much help on the 4wd conversion. Get with Gringoloco, he's done it and his is awesome. I've got a 91 burb 3rd row for my backseat. Looks like they are good choices.
Is it going to be topless all the time like my roadster?? |
Re: my 1970 blazer build=4wd to 2wd
Looks like a great project!
As far as trailing arms, they are the same length in 67-72 trucks. Long box, short box, Blazer, all the same length. |

When I did my flush mount door, I reused the stock filler pipe.
Hope the pics help. Welcome to the board, nice project. |
Re: my 1970 blazer build=4wd to 2wd
My understanding is that the trailing arms will fit, but you'll need to fabricate some shock mounts. If you plan on running airbags, you'll probably need to fabricate something anyway. LIVRAT has at lest a dozen conversions.
I believe that air ride is now making a 4-link system that is suppose to be a bolt in. I'm not sure if it is a bolt in for converted rigs though. |
Re: my 1970 blazer build=4wd to 2wd
All corect! The only differance in the rear of a 4x4 to 2x4 frame is the 4x4 does not flair out were the coil springs would mount like they do on a 2x4 frame. You can simply make brackets off the side of the frame to mount them to. I think ECE just did this in one of the mags! Just found it. Sport Truck mag and it is January 08 Vol 21 pg 68-71.
Hope this helps. Nice work by the way so far. Kevin LFD Inc. |

I've washed my truck with the top off before. It isn't that hard, just turn the water pressure down a bit so you can control it...

Have you thought about using a four link instead of the trailing arm setup? I think that this would yield better results. Like previously mentioned Gringoloco and a few other have done this conversion. Try the search function using "conversion". Unfortunately "2wd" is too short for the search function to find. Where are you located? That thing looks familiar. |
Re: my 1970 blazer build=4wd to 2wd

I have thought about that. The trailing arms seem to be easier, cheaper, and closer to an original 2wd!?!? Im not too familiar with how the four link works exactly? Pictures would be a big help!? This blazer was originally my uncles in the Inland Empire, California. He bought it for i think about $1500.00 back around 1994. He drove it once and just let it sit for about ten years. During those ten years; he sold the top:crazy: and moved to Colorado. Thats why the front floor pans rotted. So finally he decides to give it to me, if i go and pick it up. Because his my aunt didnt want it in their front yard anymore. So i trailered it from Colorado back to California Inland Empire. |

Looking good so far ;)

Re: my 1970 blazer build=4wd to 2wd
Lookin' good.
Lemme know if you have any questions on the trailing arms. It's all bolt-in once you get it squared up and holes drilled; there's even two holes already there for the center crossmember. The only snags are the upper spring and shock mounts. You will have to fab something for the upper springs since the frame does not flare out like a 2wd. For the shocks, I just moved the original crossmember that was at the front of the leaf springs back and used it for my upper shock mounts. Good luck -Chris |

Re: my 1970 blazer build=4wd to 2wd
i changed my mind on the rear seat. im going to use a 95 suburban 3rd row bench. and i scored my front bucket seats out of a 96 suburban!:metal:

Re: my 1970 blazer build=4wd to 2wd
Are those front seat mounted? or are they just sitting in there?
|
Re: my 1970 blazer build=4wd to 2wd
just sitting there. ill post pics later today, im going to attempt to mount them!?!
|
Re: my 1970 blazer build=4wd to 2wd
In the middle picture I see the mounting brackets for the suburban third row seat, did you but those or make them. I bought my seats for this conversion already. I just need to mount them.
|
Re: my 1970 blazer build=4wd to 2wd
actually i cut them out of a suburban at pick a part with a hammer and a chisel. once i got them home i grinded the sheet metal where they were spot welded to make em weak, then i pryed them apart using a hammer , a chisel and a steering linkage removal tool. i then grinded down the spot welds that were still stuck to the brackets to smoothen them out. ill post the pictures up later today! heres the donor suburban

Re: my 1970 blazer build=4wd to 2wd
What did they charge you at the pick n pull?
|
Re: my 1970 blazer build=4wd to 2wd
each seat was about $40.00 (each bucket, and the rear bench) and the brackets were 2.00 a piece. so i paid like $150. here's a better pic of the bracket.

Re: my 1970 blazer build=4wd to 2wd
those are the same ones that I have for my blazer. I bought my seat from jkade and he cut the four brackets out of the floor for me. Looking forward to seeing what they look like in yours.

If you go with the 4 link you can get it to go lower b/c you don't have the frame hitting the trailing arms. It isn't any more difficult. I just converted my 4x4 to a 2wd recently. Check out the pics of the 4 link and a pic of my 4x4 to 2x4 blazer.

that looks much harder to do than installing the factory trailing arms? is that a kit already made or is it custom? also i dont think im going to go that low.. yours looks good! a lower profile tire might look even better!!! i already got the trailing arms (thanks fleetsidepaul!), im still looking for my crossmember.. |
Re: my 1970 blazer build=4wd to 2wd
today i pretty much got my front bucket seats mounted. i still need to fill-n'-drill weld the nut brackets to the bottom of the floor. i had to customize the floor a little to make them work. i had to flatten parts of the dip in the floor pan where the two inner bolts go (on both sides), by cuting a small section and hammering it straight then welding it back together. then i drilled my holes.

Re: my 1970 blazer build=4wd to 2wd
finally got my seats mounted! whew! took forever, but they came out goood! i used the same brackets that go with the seats, once again my chisel and hammer were a big part here in getting these from the pick a part. i drilled holes and filled them with weld to hold them in place. just like the factory.

Seats look good. Are you gonna remove the headrests?
Here's a few pics of what I did for the fuel filler on my pickup. The same concept will work for your Blazer. I just used the late model filler and covered it all inside the bed with a Blazer filler cover. To get the neck under the bed, I cut off the stock bend and welded on a piece of pre-bent exhaust tubing from the parts store. Used fuel filler hose to connect to the tank- works like a charm... |

Thanks everyone for the gas filler neck pics, the did help! i wanted to make something 100% water proof to the interior. im really happy with the way it turned out. it took about three full work days thinking plus fabricating. the outside is still not fully welded and the back only has a few tack welds, but i am going to fully weld it still! http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...217071254a.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...1218071212.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...218071211a.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...1218071213.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...1218071545.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...218071652b.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...218072020a.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...1218072021.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...218072021a.jpg |
