1976 Square "Simple Green"
Well I've had this truck for a 4 months now and after getting the truck to my liking, I thought I would post up some of the progress and Information.
I've been looking for another square body for awhile and came across this one. The truck is originally a Georgia truck and was bought from a dealer up there that received it from the original owner. To my knowledge it looks like the truck was babied its hole life. It has zero rust and was a super clean original truck to start off with. Still sporting it's original interior and engine bay, it's super strait and seems to have been painted once the factory "medium Lime" color, GM paint codes WA5233 or 5233 or L5233 or U5233. No bondo on this one! This is the way I bought it. http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps1835724f.jpg http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps6b61046f.jpg http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps40394dcd.jpg http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps6c0f00d3.jpg |
Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
The first thing I had to do was get the stance right. I installed 3 inch drop spindles and 2 inch drop springs in the front. The rear has a flip kit. I lowered even more but that was later in the build.

Next was the motor, since it was in original factory condition and everything was there I just has to clean clean clean. This is were you have to take your time and be patient.

Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
I wanted to keep my factory radio and didn't want to fork out a ton of money for a reproduction unit because i only use my ipod or pandora anyways so I installed two amps under my seat and ran the rca output to a ipod jack bypassing the stereo. One for 6x9 behind my seat and front speakers and the other for a single 12 inch sub. I wanted a nice sound so i used Rockford Fosgate rear speakers and sub and 6 1/2 Focals for the front. here are the focal installed in some kick-panels i got from 73-87 truck website store. I will be taking them back apart and color matching the original kick-panels

Looks great with the new stance & wheels!

Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
out of curiosity... what is a flip kit? and how does it work?
i got a 1/2 ton long bed and am hopping to lower her to the same height as yours. |
Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
A flip kit moves the axle from under the leaf springs to on top of it. You get 5-6 inches of drop by doing this. Its an easy process that can take just a few hrs with a helper.

Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
My C20 was that color from the factory.
I would love to restore back to that color. |
Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
LOVE this truck!
|
Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
Great looking truck
|
Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
Very nice truck. I have noticed that some short bed trucks only have one fuel door mine has them on both sides. I rarely see them with only one. Is that original paint?
|
Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
Yes it is a single tank. Came that way from the factory. Yes it is the original base coat paint. Just re-cleared.
|
Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
How did I miss this! Killer truck, I love that sour apple green color. Nice!
PS- Did you Shackle it after the Flip Kit? I liked it with the rake. |
