I like that suspension. Is that someting you came up with?

Re: Dragndoorhandle

Yea, I drew it up on graph paper and the drawing I had didnt work to spec so I just winged it. The top sub frame was made last b/c I didnt want to cut the bed out for the drive shaft. The connecting rods and flywheel chuncks were on the fly also. We were tryin to use things around the shop to make gussets with. There are a lot of " Rat Rod" guys down there so you know how they are. And I was only going to back half it and they kept talkin me into more and more. I was a fuel cell away from rollin out and was talked into Zing the frame then I ran the 2x4 box under the rails and then the ***** didnt lay out b/c I only did a 2 3/4 Z and didnt plan on the 2x4 rails, so I sectioned the front Xmember 1.125 inches and b/c I did that now my "GOAL" of cuting off the pinch weld went to bye bye rocker. I wasted aLOT of $$$$ b/c I didnt have a 100% game plan so if ANYONE has a question about how I got the truck to sit like this message me and Ill help. I know how it is to not get any help and thats not my goal at all. The new goal is to have it running in 2 months and have every truck in the forum laying frame....................

Re: Dragndoorhandle

Thats pretty much how i do it to, wing it and waste money figuring it out later. One day I get plan together prior to the build. it looks good though

7duece, looks like some killer work. I've loved your truck since I first saw it on here. Best of luck finishing it up, mine's getting bagged in the next couple of weeks, I just need to order the parts and get them installed. Can't wait!

I have to cut a TON to get the front tires to clear. But this is all I got done today. Tomarrow order the 265.00 steering joints. This project is getting $$$$$$$$$$$

I still have to cut a few inches off the bottom of the bed.

Re: Dragndoorhandle

I take it that when droped it has zero ground clearance.

Re: Dragndoorhandle

You can cut or you can find a parking lot with smooth concrete and drag it slow and smooth with the body on the ground, then plate them.

Just another shot. The fenders are all lined up and the inner fenders are cut. Now all I have to do is the hood and mount the sache hood hinges and the steering shaft. I figure another million dollars and it should be done.

Damn thats a killer looking ride...

Re: Dragndoorhandle

The underside of the hood is non existent. and you can see whats left of the fenders with 15"s in this pic. Thats why we narrowed the frontend for maximum clearance. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1143739215

Re: Dragndoorhandle

Thats cool but how safe are they going to be in the event of a crash???? Because somuch of the inner structure has been cut away.I would suggest pin on hood or reversed hinges to solve the clearence issues.

Re: Dragndoorhandle

I have more box tubing in this frame than in most steel yards. FULLY boxed. 100% As far as the fenders and hood go, I ran 3/8" round stock to reinforce the hood and fenders. Also these c10 were made of real metal, not like a f#$kin S10. You can lay a bead down and not worrie about blowing through. These stock floored trucks are just as safe or safer than a stock truck if done right. A few more mods to the tranny Xmember for the exhaust and install the $700 worth of ididit column and steering joints and its off to the painter. I WILL BE AT INDY!!!!!!

While you're fabbing... consider setting the trailing arm xmember back a couple of inches...

XXL why are you such an:aw:? J/K

BTW nice truck.

Re: Dragndoorhandle

That truck doesn't have a trailing arm crossmember its a custom built rear subframe with a three link. I'm guessing the wheels are forward like that mostly because of the angle of the link bars, when it goes up they probably get closer to center. Or maybe not just an observation. By the way that rear subframe setup is trick looks good.

I understand the why... all of us with "triangulated" suspensions (non-leafs) have this problem. I chose to pull my bed forward, which captured about an inch of this offset problem. I also plan to build some spacers to squeeze between the xmember and the trailing arm mount to resolve the rest. I think 7deuce's rear frame and suspension look great... just would like to see more of us low folks resolving these aesthetic problems. BTW, when you do extreme lowering, the front of these trucks' wheel offset is even worse.

As for :aw: ... :m4: ;)

7deuce 06-08-2006 08:47 PM

Re: Dragndoorhandle

I love these forums. yea, the wheel is forward in that pic, but also the bed was not bolted down and I didnt make the spacers to make the body lines line up yet. I just threw it on there to push it outside b/c there was a full size chevy that needed done asap. The rear was setup to have the wheel centered @ ride height which was 4" from ground untill I hacked the bottom 2 in off. And with a three link wish bone setup I think you will have some wheel movement. Unless someone knows something I dont. ALL the steering came in today ididit column and borgeson joints. $ 734.00 It will be in by next week. This weekend GOOD GUYS in INDY. Ill post some pics of the column when Im done. Maybe Ill get it right this time while Im fabbing......lol

Re: Dragndoorhandle

You might as well grab a set of hood hinges while your there. Youll need them when you Z the frame. The joints total was 277.00 and the hinges are 180.00. Tell the boss you need some O.T.

Re: Dragndoorhandle

I FINALLY got the steering done. I wouldnt but the stock replacement ididit column for the truck, buy a shorter one. It was a bit%h to keep thoes borgeson joints under a 35 degree angle. Hood hinges are next as soon as Todd Wilt returns from workin @ KILLER customs in INDY. That guy NEVER stays in one place too long.....hahahahttp://myspace-704.vo.llnwd.net/0085...50304704_l.jpg
