Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10
3 Attachment(s)
Hi,
I'm Mike, Gearhead, musclecar enthusiast, who drag races his 98 Camaro SS every other weekend or so... but enough about me... Here is a couple pictures of my just bought 1968 C10 Long Bed (wooden floor) pickup. Been sitting in a coworkers garage for the last 15 years... So it was loaded on a flatbed and brought to my local garage to go over everything, freshen all fluids, gas tank flushed, complete tune-up, brakes checked and good general going over to get her road ready once again in the next week or two. Paint is a repaint done by the original owner back in the early 80's. has had a dual exhaust added by previous owner, and now shows 118k miles being racked up on the 327-4bbl, Auto, 12-bolt. Interior will need some TLC, new seat cover, dash pad, rubber floor mat... Body appear solid, with minor rock chips along fender edges/bottoms showing a tiny bit of surface rust. Solid truck all around. I prefer the sleeper look, so don't take offense If I say "No" to adding 20's, or lowering it 5" or adding chrome... Do plan for a "standard" rear bumper to drop off the big azz step bumper. Open to comments, ideas, watch-out-fors, etc... Mike |

Nice looking truck, welcome
|
Re: Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10
Those step bumpers kinda come in handy ya know... ;) If you were closer, I'd gladly pay a handsome sum for it, as it appears to be an original step bumper.
Welcome to the site - great lookin truck btw. |
Re: Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10
Truck looks solid, love the longbeds. I'd say do what you're doing to get it road worthy and safe and drive it. Check out the hidden spots for rust. If you're going to lose that rear bumper and not be towing, maybe get the smaller side mirrors. It's yours to make how you want.

Re: Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10
Welcome to the board. I'll echo what Jocko said, if you remove that bumper you should not have problem selling. Good luck with the truck.

Re: Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10
Welcome aboard! Like the green. Does it have the white grill and bumper? Are the mirrors painted or chrome?

Re: Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10
Someone correct me if i am wrong, but the mirrors look to be West Coast Jr's. Check your SPID to see if they are listed. They look to be in good shape so you should have no problem selling those either. Do a search in the classified section for step bumpers(& mirrors) to get an idea on pricing.

Got a pix of the front end, but seems I've hit a limit on posting pix to this thread? Bumpers, steel wheels & grill surround and mirrors appear to be a silver, not sure of its paint name for the color, heard argent silver for that 5 star _OPAR brand... Not sure if that is the factory color green, or a different color, the interior is a lighter more silverfish green color. Green seat, dash pad, door panels, seat, with black rubber floor mat. Stock AM factory radio still untouched. A bit of a time capsule. |

You are correct, mirrors are listed on the SPID (See Attachment in OP) " D29 R V JR MIRROR R&L " |

If you ever need to work on the carb, get a kit and parts from cliffshighperformance.com. He can sell you everything you need, and recalibrate the Q-Jet to better run on todays gas, AND his parts are ethanol resistant. Of course disc brakes are a great addition. I doubt that you can retain the stock wheels, even if you get one of the 6 lug setups's. Can't believe you found such a solid pickup in your part of the country!!! Carry on brother!!! Can anyone elaborate on the picture limit!!! |

Not sure to be honest. I know I'd pay $100 for it if I were closer.

Yeah, was thinking the guy I bought it off of owned it for 20+ years, and he got it from the original owner who he believe kept it in a garage as well. |

Cool truck! Reminds me a lot of mine when I first got it. It appears to be 505 dark green. What's the code on your SPID? Usually '68 and up had the same color paint interior and exterior. And yeah, those mirrors are actually pretty popular! Personally, I'd hang onto those. I've been casually looking for a set myself.

Hi from a fellow '68 freak. I'm anxious to see more pictures.
Great find! |

Guys, this is not a for sale thread and he can't sell parts on here unless he becomes a premium member (name is Blue). Any more offers to buy or sell parts will get his thread locked. I'm sure you don't want to see that happen...... Thanks, LockDoc |

May leave those mirrors on, and keep it basically factory, except that step bumper... Just not exactly the look or utility I'm looking for. But will likely save every factory piece so it can always be returned to stock. Your truck looks really sweet! When I get a break from the 2 grandsons in baseball, complete Kitchen remodel, and enjoying my 98 Camaro SS... I'll be looking for picture of yours peruse in my "spare time"! Mike |

Re: Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10
I used to HATE those bumpers. Now: they are growing on me. I like them.
Whatever you do, please don't just throw them away. And WC mirrors are so nice on any truck, very unique these days. Great base for a project, thanks for sharing. |

Thanks Mike. Sometimes more experienced members get a little overzealous when they see a nice original part that they can use. No problem mentioning what you paid for your truck at all. Yes, there are a lot of experienced builders on here that are more than willing to share their knowledge..... LockDoc |

I think I got a pretty fair deal. Paid $7,500 for the truck. Came with wood bed rail sideboards and spare rims/tires, new door seals, manuals, etc... So... the big question. How did I do? Fair deal, Great Deal, Robbed Me, Steal of a deal...? |
Re: Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10
I’d say that’s a great deal. It’s hard to find them as preserved as yours.
|
Re: Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10
I think that's a pretty good deal. I paid a little less for mine but I don't think it was as clean as yours overall. Mine needed a new bedside from a fender bender a long time ago.
For the rear bumper, you could always go with one of the smaller bumpers. Mine came factory with a nice low profile step bumper. I originally planned on ditching it for the ever popular sport bumper, but then I realized how useful mine was and it started to grow on me. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4257/...94a362a3_c.jpg |
Re: Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10
Hey Mike, I just posted on your welcome thread. I have friends in your area and get over that way every month or two. Welcome.
Don't worry, you never made a single mention of selling parts. It was the guys here who know the rules already but can't help their comments. I do the same as you...keep what I pull to keep it all together. Plenty of orphan parts out there looking for a home. Do you hit Mason-Dixon when you run the Camaro? BTW, nice truck!! |
Re: Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10
Welcome to the forum and nice truck.
On the pricing, I'd see say you did fine...particularly for PA where there are less examples of these around. $7500 for a solid, unmolested, V-8/327 truck is right in the 'acceptable' zone...no worries. Its increasingly difficult to find these trucks where they haven't been badly messed with ...on so many levels from drivetrains to metal flake steering wheels, to 9" diameter tachometers, etc...lol. You did fine, truck looks great and you will have a lot of fun with it....when you start with them in that condition and readiness. Again, welcome...lots of good info and help here. All good Coley |

Mason-Dixon, heck yeah! See pix, 1 from last year, 1 this year w/Drag Radials on. 13.08 @ 106.5 stock engine, etc... just "free mods". Try to go at least once a month, twice whenever schedule allows! Mike |

Another option for me to consider... Doubt anyone is reproducing that version though! Thank you - I thought it was a fair deal, seller wasn't complaining - neither was I :metal: |

Re: Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10
Welcome, and to echo what others have said, that looks like a real nice truck you got there. I too would have to ditch that step bumper, but I agree you'd be wise to hold onto anything you take off. You're a drag racer so you might appreciate what I'd do, which is put some wider wheels on it with the stock hubcaps so you you can fit some wider rubber on it. I wouldn't drop it down on the ground with 20" wheels. I'm just not a fan of that look.

Any Steel wheels come in 15" X 8" ? Or easier to go aftermarket for steel wheels in wider then 7" widths... Don't plan on taking it down the drag strip, but you never know... |
