Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets
4 Attachment(s)
Here is my latest design of the Impala SS rear disc brake brackets. These are laser cut out of 1/4" with 1/4" spacers stitch welded on and then tapped M12 x 1.25 for the caliper cage attachment bolts. These brackets will bolt onto the truck 12 bolt rear differentials from '64-'82 and the 10 bolt truck differentials from '79-'87. The price on these is $115.00 plus a flat rate shipping of $9.20. This pricing is always current and up to date. PayPal is preferred, but I will also accept money orders. The package includes one pair of brackets plus grade 8 fasteners to attach the brackets to the axle tube flange and the metric bolts to attach the caliper cages to the brackets. This setup is for the 5 x 5 bolt pattern.
If you would like a set, post in this thread, send me a PM or send an email to captainfab454@hotmail.com, and I will give you the ordering and payment instructions and current lead time. |
Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets
Another nice product :metal:
What did the impalas use for e-brakes? will the impala rotor fit the axle with out any modification? |
Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets
The Impala e-brake was a shoe setup inside the rotor which would be a little difficult to adapt to a 12 bolt truck diff. The Impala rotor fits over the axle flange with nothing more than slightly opening up the center hole to slide over the step on the axle flange. A die grinder and a flap drum will do it is 5 minutes or less.

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets
Do you use the truck rotor or impala rotor?
|
Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets
Uses Impala SS or Caprice/Roadmaster rear rotors.

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets
What do you recommend for the prop valve when adding the Impala rear discs?
|
Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

With that said,as for the Impala rear brake conversion, I think I might recommend seriously looking at the components that GM used on the Impala for a start. Although the weight bias of a pickup is likely to be a bit different than an Impala. Also the weight bias from one pickup to another will be different in how the truck was built. This is mainly why I believe an adjustable proportion valve is beneficial to the brake system. BTW Scot, how did that booster bracket work out for you? |
Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets
It looks great . . ... sitting on a shelf full of parts (Vette MC, Malibu booster, Porterbuilt Dropmember, 350/700R4, van tilt, blah, blah. blah.... Also should have a couple of steelies on the way  .
The parts are waiting to come together but I've gotten behind on building the frame for my retroRod project so everything else is delayed as well. Should make for a busy summer. There will be a thread w/details soon. |
Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets
I have one set of these brackets left......I'll throw in a pair of Metric to SAE line adapters for free with this last set.

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets
Capt....please check your PM's as I am interested.
I'm also curious to know what the diameter of the impala rotor is? Can you get me a measurement from the center of the axle to the highest point on the caliper? My wheel has a 7 inch backspacing so fitment is going to be close depending on the dimensions. Thanks in advance |

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets
OK that's good. It looks like Outlaw72 will be taking the set I currently have, so I'll need to get some more laser cut. I'll get those ordered tomorrow and let you know a time frame.

Nice job on these! :metal: I haven't made Impala brackets for a couple years now, so I'm glad someone else is. I still get PM's asking when I will make another batch, so I will steer them your way from now on!

You did an excellent job on the Camaro caliper brackets. While you were gone and so many were wanting them, I considered making some but I didn't want to do that until I heard back from you. I looked at your design and tried to figure out a different way to make them, but your design is the simplest and just how I would make them. Do you plan to make any more of the Camaro caliper brackets? |
Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets
Thanks Captn! I do plan on making some more Camaro brackets in the near future.
|
Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets
Great guy to deal with people. And a very nicely made piece to boot.
|
Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets
Excuse my ignorance, but do you need the impala caliper and disc and they just bolt up? Are the discs 5X5 bolt pattern? Sounds like a pretty sweet setup, I might have to do this to my truck if that is all that is involved.

The guys on thirdgen.org have worked out ways of putting these PBR calipers onto their spindles that have cast in caliper mount bosses which could be adapted for use on our trucks too. This caliper could be used on the 14-bolt rear disc conversion that uses the Dana-44 front rotors if you didn't need an e-brake. |
Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets
Just a FYI GM used same prop valve for the Disc/Drum B-body they used it on the Disc/Disc B-body. Only 9c1 and SS had rear disc not Roadmasters.
