Project Sloppy Jo.....

Why Sloppy Jo,
Cause it is a hot mess.......

My 72 Blazer has seen better days, but I am going to tear it down, fix all these high speed patches and make it a 4.8/4L60E/NP205......

Lots of sloppy work, hence the name.....

I will do it all myself to include painting.

Good luck on the project ! Just wondering why you'll be using a 4.8 and not a 5.3? I assume you already have a donor truck?

I don't have the luxury of junk yards that are close to me. I scrub the list for LS package vehicles, looking at cost and efficiency and the 4.8 is a good little engine.

Thoughts?

Here's a great read on 4.8 vs 5.3

I have read that article. I am not looking for big HP numbers, just a reliable engine that is efficient. Have you had bad experience with the 4.8?

I actually have no experience with the 4.8. I have had 2 silverados with the 5.3 and love the engine. The way I understand the article they are both great and the 4.8 only makes a little less power - sounds like it will work great in your blazer. I am considering an LS swap in my new project and may be more open to the little guy now!

I got lucky on my build and found a complete 03 Sierra with a 5.3 for $500.
The best advice I can give you if you're doing a swap, is buy a complete running vehicle. You'll be shocked at how many small parts you'll need/use off of the donor vehicle. Buying just the engine, trans and computer from a wrecker IMHO is not the way to go.

Thanks Hemi,

I dont have that luxury here in the Vista. I have to drive all over the place to find what I need. I am looking though....

Good day indeed.......

Hey Smitty,
Nice project. The hulk build in my signature. I am running the 4.8/4L60E with a NP241. since it is in a 4x4 I put a nice little Comp cam in it and changed the valve springs other than that its all stock.

I am on board with your build....
Good luck!

Im interested in seeing how the 4l60 and 241 go together - from what I have read so far some go together with no adapter and some require an adapter (I believe from a 700r4).

Good parts day for SJ. Picked up a Ram seat for the front and mutt seat for the back, luckily it fits. Picked up some parts of a wrecked 06 4.8, wanted to get the airbox, but it was a victim of the crash :( .....Oh well, still was a good day.

Just because they can , doesn't mean they should. Still trying to clear out some of the PO's work on my truck
Boy, you have some nice sheet metal out your way

That "B" post area is a PITA, something like 5 pieces of sheet metal intersect there

You got that right....The piece on the B pillar that is underneath is actually solid. I am looking at building something that ties it all together. Most of the pieces are there, but they are rusted.

I made a gusset to tie all that sheet metal together, I see if I can find what page it's on

Bottom, page 6

Well today I spent time cutting and fitting the floor patch for the passenger side. Turned out pretty good for someone who is not that skilled in metal repair....Tomorrow I will cut out the rocker box and get the replacement fitted. I don't want to put it on until I get the front patches cut and installed. I know, brace the roof....got that covered..... Will also start repairing the floor and bedside for the passenger side....One side at a time....

Not too much today, cold is getting me down.....

Did get the rocker box out, cut out the cab corner rust. Pulled out the bedside and guess what, someone else already made a repair in that area.....Why in the world would you leave bare metal untreated? Some folks are special......Shakin my head.....

Got the cab mount in. Fitted the floor more and as soon as LMC can get this patch here for the A pillar, the passenger floor will be done. Saved $50 repairing the rocker box cover today. Cleaned up all the rust off it and there was a lot of metal left on it, POR-15 will make it right....Rocker box should be in next.....
