A good friend of mine runs a body shop, I'm often impressed at how fast they can turn something like this around when they put their minds to it.

The right people, the right tools and a couple bags of cash can get a lot of otherwise impossible things done very quickly, and never say never!!!!!!!! :)

sealed with dupont something sealer. dark on the bottom, light on the top. dust in everything from spraying down to up instead of up to down. were sanding it and re-shooting tomorrow. its too damn cold to paint tonight too.

reminds me of stories from my dad's youth. He had a buddy named charlie that used to paint for an Earl Scheib. He'd show up to work and paint with a lucky strike hanging out of his mouth, a plastic bag over his head and a pair of house shoes.

And just in case you guys think that this guy didn't know what he was doing, from the pics I've seen, the guy was a Da Vinci with the spray gun. My dad street raced a 62 bel air that he took to charlie to get painted. Said "do whatever you want to it." Charlie started by laying a layer of white, then set the pressure reeeallly low and shot black and red spiderwebs on it, and did the same treatment to the wheels (steelies with dog dishes). then he cut and buffed it. Dad has a pic of that car where he's taking a picture directly over the hood, and the reflection on the hood is mirror smooth. Amazing.

>X< 12-11-2004 09:42 PM

this truck is going to be two toned-white top, blue bottom, chrome airbrushed strip, airbrushed V and flags on the front of the hood.

Brainchild 12-12-2004 12:20 AM

I guess I'll be the one to ask.Why didn't you use a booth?

I have turned out some nice paint out of a watered down dustbomb garage, but you have to pick the day when the wind isn't blowing:D
Can't wait to see the finished truck.

Swbman 12-12-2004 01:12 AM

Man, you guys are speeding on that project, hope your friend doesnt look back in life and wish he had worn some breathing protection equipment.

TugOwar 12-12-2004 03:02 AM

What do you call the stuff in paint now days thats so dangerous? Can't remember the name but I hear it'll do a real number on brain cells, nervous system, lungs...

Truck is lookin good man.

Peregrine 12-12-2004 03:32 AM

Wow, I think if/when I repaint my truck I'm going for a two tone. Never really seen one before on our trucks. Most of the time it's solid paint with flames. hehe. But I like it.

low burb 12-12-2004 09:52 AM

Isocyanates are the big nasty in modern paints. I can't believe the lack of breathing air, too. We are sooo bullet-proof when we are young, aren't we. Now I seem to be wearing a mask for everything. Michael

low burb 12-12-2004 09:53 AM

Great pics, by the way. Nice to see it coming together. Michael

white finished, untaped. small problem with stripe, so we'll hold off on the airbrushing and clear till tomorrow. the silver will be airbrushed like chrome and there will be a chevy "V" with flags on the front of the hood.

This is a "reality" forum thread. It has to have a deadline to make it more exciting.... :p

>X< 12-13-2004 12:44 AM

it was parked at his parents house and they werent having that. so he said it will be out in 3 weeks.

dtlilly 12-13-2004 01:55 AM

That truck is looking good!

Who needs a stinking mask anyhow? I've handeled av-fuel and used to clean-up JP-5 (military jet fuel) spills without any ppe. Worked in mech and paint shops for 10 years and smoked camels for 18 years... and my lung feels great when I'm not coughing... oh yeah, I'm getting breast cancer removed on the 16th too. I was invincible one day too

>]{roo]{ed< 12-13-2004 02:45 AM

Your right, I should be wearing my respirator.
But the way I figure it, if I smoke the entire time that I paint.....Shouldn't the filter on my smoke catch all of the isocynates???
