I like it shortbed crew cabs are very cool. Lifted or lowered you can't go wrong. I will be keeping my eyes on this one also.

To clarify, the black cab'd truck with the gold bed was a different truck than this one, right?
I have an '87 swb 2wd and an '85 swb 4x4. I would like to do a 4x4 swb crew. Just need the crew???

is that a 1/2 ton back half grafted to the 1 ton frame?

Re: ojoe's crewcab shortbed build

Some constructive criticism - what size are those bolts holding the two frames together? Look kinda small to me, I wouldn't trust anything smaller than what holds the rear springs in their hangers. Also if it was my truck I'd weld up the rear vertical edges of the 3/4-ton frame to the outside of the halfton frame, and also the front vertical edges of the halfton frame to the inside of the 3/4-ton frame, wouldn't rely on just the bolts to keep things from shifting in case of an accident.

Other than that I think it looks pretty darn good, only thing it needs is a stepper bed and it'll be just perfect :D

Re: ojoe's crewcab shortbed build

I think bolts are for alignment purposes. This makes is a fool proof method. I'm sure full welding will come next.

just looks high, have already installed 3" spindles and 1" springs in front. rear has flip kit and c notch. it will come down about more 2" in in rear with the shackles i have to put on. also running 20x10 and 20x8 wheels. just finished running all new brake lines and changed out hydroboster to a vacum booster. still have to do fuel system.

Re: ojoe's crewcab shortbed build

Did you notch the frame due to the fact that you are going lower, or is it nessary because of the axel flip? When I build my truck I want it at about the height that yours is now. I am figuring on just the axel flip and wondering if I'll have to notch the frame or not. It's not practical in the northeast where I live to go any lower with a truck that is a daily driver. The roads here SUCK!

Going from LWB to SWB is a 14" reduction in wheelbase and you would have to lop off about 6" off the back, so technically it should be 150.5" wheelbase now. and should be about 2 feet shorter.

i would advise anyone doing a flip kit to do a c notch. i know about the roads in Mass i did a 3 mo shut down at PNPS in plymouth mass a few yrs ago. good luck on your build

the old bed was rust free but did have small damage on the right side. also has 2 5th wheel rails mounted in the bed (extra holes). this is a real nice bed and already had it.

Sweet! When did you pick that up? I'm going with Speartech for my harness. I've looked around a lot and they seem to have the best combination of price and customer service. I'm having them do some special mods for the Suburban and they seem eager to do what you want.

Question, why no AC? Are you going with the throttle by wire or are you going to switch to a cable. Speartech can do it either way.
