For your viewing pleasure

I started this frame the other day, I always wanted to this. I cut 2" out of the stock cross member. I'll take care of the center link later.

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m...U/IMG_1277.jpg

I'm building this chassis with left over steel from other jobs. For now I'll use the stock control arms for mock up.

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m...U/IMG_1296.jpg

The center of the frame will be 2x4 .083 wall with .50x2" for the bracing

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m...U/IMG_1303.jpg

I raised it up to ride height then tacked some stands under it

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m...U/IMG_1314.jpg

I'll post some more pictures later on

but why narrow the track width?

abadsvt 02-07-2008 02:18 PM

Re: For your viewing pleasure

Looks good but i would recommend going a little thicker for your 2x4 rails. Not trying to be rude or anything but .083 is pretty thin and even though you have 1/2x2" bracing it still attaches to the .083. You could have 1" thick bracing but it isn't worth anything because its only as strong as what you are attaching it too. I would go with .120 2x4. Make sure you "V" the butt joint on the 2x4's when you attach them to the other pieces. That way when you weld it up you are getting full pen on both sides of the steel. Anyways good luck and nice start.

ps. I like the look of that 1/2"x2" bracing. Very creative.

Josh

Interesting, I like the idea. But hell, if youre making a frame anyway why not just run w/ a rack and pinion? Keep us updated.

Re: For your viewing pleasure

Abadsvt you are right, normally I would use .120 wall. That 2x4 was from a job I did for a guy and he had to have 2x4 .083 wall. That was a stick that has been in my metal rack for 3 or 4 years. I'm never going to use it and I'm tried of looking at it. I have used .083 on race cars before but not 2x4. I will have to put some real creative bracing in the frame. I do have a plan so I'll keep everybody posted. Oh Yeah thanks for watching everybody I left the show 3 months ago. Jessi from extreme is leaving at the end of this month.

Sounds great. I was just trying to help share my knowledge that i have learn (which isn't that much:lol:) but after finding out who you are i should be asking you for advice instead;). Just curious what are you going to be doing about the deflection that the metal will allow when cornering? Are you planing on using the same thickness for the front and rear section? This should be a sweet build. You should start this in the build section of the 67-72 trucks. That is where most of the people have there build thread. Anyways good luck and make sure you post some pics.

Re: For your viewing pleasure

Im suprised everybody is wondering why the narrowed track width. Doesn't the dropmember have a narrowed width? I would assume its so you can tuck some wider rubber up front??

LUCKIN-FOU 02-08-2008 01:13 PM

Re: For your viewing pleasure

The Narrowed front end is just something I always wanted to do. After all it's stock. A friend of mine works at one of the NASCAR teams. He told me if I get the center link the way I want it he would make one for me. As far as the deflection I just have to brace it up real good. I need to sit down when I get the rest of the frame done and figure it out. The truck is mine so I can play with it. You know a little R&D. I might put a rack & pinion on it. just for ****s and giggles.

Sucks that the suits have control of those shows... wish they would just let you guys do (build) what you want.

Re: For your viewing pleasure

when i first saw the avatar and the name i was like, "could it be? nah, probably a big fan of the guy, why would a celeb stop by here? his profile here doesn't match his myspace profile :D".

gotta say, all i've seen is repeats on the tivo lately, so i wasn't aware that lou'd (you'd? :)) left.

either way - one of the best personalities on the powerblock, and probably one of the only people on powerblock i'd ever wanted to go out and grab a beer with - well, ok, Jared seems like a pretty freakin cool guy (saw him in a cameo on "Rides" recently), and so Jess from E-4x4 seems pretty cool as well (every car guy's dream woman?). they just don't come off as not as fcking nuts like lou santiago :D the rest of the PBTV cast seem pretty hohum...

I agree with Shifty. Weekends just wont be the same now.

Re: For your viewing pleasure

Sorry to hear that you won't be on PBTV anymore, but as mentioned before, it seemed like the suit's were controlling to much of the show, and not letting you give the viewer's what they wanted to see.

We're more than happy to have you on the board! Can't wait to see what you have planned for this build...

Ive never heard of his show or the other one mentioned. Were these on Speed channel? Ive pretty much given up on Speed. Every time I turn it on it seems like I hit some superbike show or Pinks (which I cant stand).

Please give me a heads up so I can check it out.

I have to take the weekend off I'm going to the Autorama in Sacamento. Hangin out on the west coast.

I'm a big fan of the static drop don't get me wrong bags are cool but static is more fun to build. There is so much more to look at. from a building point of view.

Hey Tony call me I know you will check this thread. Later
