so i was at the local car show here in town that they host every second Friday of the month. you know there is always a bunch of cars and trucks to check out. well i walked up on this 72 gmc short bed it looked alright, except for the two exhaust stacks coming straight up out of the bed and the weird double fuel cell in the bed. so as i got closer i looked inside and noticed it had tweed interior and weird looking gauges.so at this point i am thinking to my self this truck is kind of lame.... then i over hear the guy who owned the truck talking to this cop about the motor.at that point i heard him say that he had just installed a turbine engine in it and that it was his first time driving it on the street.so i went up to the guy and asked if i could see it. to my surprise , he was able to stuff a helicopter turbine in to this truck .here are some picture and i also have video of him parking it.he also informed me that he drove in From Meadow Vista which is about 10 miles from Auburn and that he had put in around $100 dollars worth of kerosene and that he was already halfway through it. so it looked like he had about a 20 mile ride in a turbine powered truck for $100.00 that night.

the guy told me that he installed a seperate brake on the output shaft just to slow it down enough to put it into gear. and that was at around 3k rpm. i also have some video of it being parked . i will try to post it as well. here are some more pictures. Tony

way too much time - but interesting nonetheless - :)

that thing had to sound interesting - and the cost to drive it is phenomenally expensive.

Put $$$ on the dash. If they can grab it when you step on it, they can have it. If not, they gotta pay $50 bucks for the ride:lol:

That is Just outright Disgustingly insanely
AWESOME!

not sure how that was accomplished but its alot cooler than getting a $70,000 dollar motor out of Nat Dragster that is about garunteed to blow within a few hours of running.

Spent 20 years working on helicopters. Really would have liked to see that drive train. They measure those engines by shaft horse power. Usually around 3,000 to 5,500 shaft horsepower. A non airworthy turbine would be worth at least 300,000 - 500.000 dollars core.

SWEET JESUS! now that i have thought about this Why a old truck when this set up in a Chevelle/charger/nova could be one of the most famous cars on the road.

Thats why you usually only see them on speed boats with huge sponsors. A few years ago they busted a group stealing them to resell to the boat builders.

Why would he want one in a truck when he has one in a motorcycle.

Holy cow!

5000shaft hP? Is this power measured/rated the same way a regular piston engine is? And is it rated the same, like a 5000hp piston engine is the same as this one? If so, this is one wild ride :)

Also, did you mention this site so he can come on here and talk about this truck? Please say you did :ito:

I remembered reading an article about Jay Leno and a motorcycle and Truck with a helicopter engine in it. Its not one of our trucks but here is the link from Popular Mechanics.

I'm not sure because I have never worked on a Helicopter. but are you talking lift? I know a helocopter is lift and an airplane is thrust. And if you use a very long boring formula you can convert HP to thrust / lift.

I'm just asking because 3k - 5k seems like a lot no matter how its measured.

and its still a truck I would pay $50.00 to ride in :metal:
