Re: bucket seats and consoles

I am putting a set of buckets out of a 98 Suburban in my 68 Chevy truck. I am cutting the pedastals down about 2.5" and then rewelding them to get the ride height correct. I am going to build a console out of aluminum and cover the sides with the same material as the rest of the interior. The top will be out of 1/4" aluminum and covered in carbon fiber material. The shifter will be in the console with the radio and ignition components. All of which will be in a compartment in front of the shifter.

2006 Chevy Cobalt buckets.

Easy to install, almost to easy, lots of adjustment, easy mount, low enough that a six foot plus guy has a little more head and leg room.

no pictures yet, the colunm and gauges are still out...

i like the seats and consoles from the 67-72 era, but finding them in decent shape is getting hard to do. thats why i am leaning toward the late models

Re: bucket seats and consoles

i used some balck high back sport seats from summitracing.com and made a console out of steel that goes from the dash all the way back to the back of the cab and rises up the the bottom of the rear window, i also added some cup holders and some guages to the console, also it will be getting some speakers in it and be painted the same color orange as the truck and rest of the dash soon there are some pics in my build thread
the link is in my sig

I have those red buckets like Spray Bomb used, from a low mile`89 Blazer.(& back seat)
I also have a pair of vinyl low-backs from my`92 K3500 that will work nicely.
Then there`s the utility buckets I have in the parts board. With the headrests pulled out the`92 low-backs have a simular look to the utilities.

This is what I'm planning for my '69 except my buddy buckets will be black and white houndstooth. I'll have the capacity for 3 passengers (so I can take both of my kids) and it still feels like a bucket. The storage and fold down armrest are nice when no one is in the middle also.

i found a seat out of a 60s thunderbird, it has a bench bottom with bucket backs and a fold down arm rest. the reason i like this seat is that the back of the seat looks alot like the buckets out of our trucks, that and they fold forward.:metal:

WOW, those are some nice refinished seats! I put after market seats in mine but, haven't been real happy with them, too big. I have buckets out of a 67 in the garage just need to be reupholstered.

I have a line on a set of buckets from a Silverado which have the belt integrated into the seat. I read an article in a Custom Classic Trucks mag a few years back that had several late model seats that practically bolt up in a 67-72

Re: bucket seats and consoles

Has anyone bought seats from this site? http://www.discountvantruck.com/truc...truckseats.htm They come with adapter brackets to bolt right into our trucks.

I like the original buddy bucket seats, but finding an original seat seems difficult. The reupholstered one I found on Ebay was going for $1050. Ebay is where I found this dealer.

I was just wondering if anyone has purchsed one of these aftermarket seats, and I'd love to see one in our trucks.

Thanks,

Dan

4tiresngas I bought some Santa Cruz 40-20-40 Truck Seats from Discount Van-Truck-SUV-RV and found them to be good quality for the price but I will be adding some bracing to the legs of the adapter bracket. There not installed at this time but if you want to see the ones I’m going to be using check out my build thread.

Do you guys (upolstery(sp?) shop??) make the seat covers or are they the repops and you install?? The reason I ask is that I want a color combo that gm didn't do, but I want the seat covers to be coorect (scroll work, etc?) LMK??

Can these be purchased at your shop or do you need the seat to reupholster.

yellowblazer1969 12-31-2008 06:49 PM

Re: bucket seats and consoles

i dont know about the rest of these guys but when we do them at our shop there are two ways we have done then either new repro upholstery is bought and then altered to the desired pattern or sometimes people use the (stubs) insert pieces with the scroll and have the covers made to their specs, sometimes dying is involved if you want to change the color of the stubs. thats just how i have done them in the past and they have worked out very well, most of the time we either do buddy buckets or utility buckets this way.
thanks, chris

Re: bucket seats and consoles

4tirengas, I have a set of the Santa Cruz 40/20/40 seats in my '71 4x4 and am very satisfied. Very comfortable to sit in and like the center storage complartment. Bought them from a dealer at a swap meet couple years ago, installed after modifying a bare set of original bench seat runners. Did not want to drill new mount holes in my cab so picked up on the original bolt hole mountings. Still not quite done with the install as they sit a little to tall for me but is manageable. Plan on doing some more modification when I get the truck out of storeage this spring. Sorry but don't have a pic on the computer right now and truck is in storage. Think I gave close to $600 for them but they are VERY comfortable, just sit a bit to tall for the moment.

Re: bucket seats and consoles

For those of you who have the newer silverado/sierra front buckets and console, do you also have the gas tank in behind them? Would there be enough leg room with the gas tank still in the cab? I'm 6'3" so i'm curious before i go buy anything.

texanidiot25 03-06-2009 08:38 PM

Re: bucket seats and consoles

I'm 6' 1" and am very comfortable with the gas tank behind me still. About the same as I remember the stock bench being.

Honestly, there is no leg room to be gained with the tank gone... The seat back hits the cab before the seat bottom hit's the tank. It's not like you'll ever have the seat back tilted forward so the seat bottom can slide back to where the tank would be.
