Project Where'd The Money Go
3 Attachment(s)
Well, I've been promising to start a build thread for awhile now, and I better do it before I forget what all I've done so far. It's been a longer process than I anticipated as some other things got in the way, but we are back on it working hard now, so hopefully the updates will be worthwhile. So, without further ado....
Here is how it looked when we bought it |

Here's what we created to hold the relays for door poppers and the alarm system. This tucks nicely up under the dash.

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go
Your tank looks awesome! I am getting ready to move my tank and can't decide which one to use. I like yours because it doesn't hang down very far. Do you remember where you got it, and how much it was?? Thanks for the info, you guys are helping me out a ton, I'm still pretty new to this.

But I did find how much I paid. I got it on Ebay from a seller called Gearhead World for 212 shipped. He doesn't have any listed right now, but the tank I bought was in a box from Tanks, Inc. I went and checked and they have them there. Here's a link for ya: http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/pa...rod/prd113.htm And we got it for that exact reason - best fitment between the rails and it didn't hang down low. |

When you don't have it hooked up to battery, you don't roll up your windows. Hahaha. I'm not sure how much or little you know about it, so I'll start at the beginning. First, you buy a door pull kit. I used Autoloc 50lb pulls. When I was studying up on this, I saw varied opinions on the pull strength, but I went with what autoloc themselves recommended for my truck. You also need an alarm system as the remote from it is what you use to activate the door pulls. I wired mine up so the unlock action pulls the driver's door and the trunk button pulls the passenger side. you can also rig it up where unlock pulls both doors, but I didn't see the sense in that because if I was alone, I'd have to just pull the passenger door shut again. When you hit the lock button, it just arms the alarm as you no longer have locks that you have to lock. The wiring is a little complicated for a novice installer, but we taught ourselves using the instructions provided with the kit and by researching how relays and car alarms work on the internet. I'd definitely suggest buying a kit that includes alarm, relays, and pulls. I got mine from Ebay. Hope this helps. I probably didn't answer all possible questions, so if you have more or think of more, feel free to ask. Always happy to help a fellow board member. As for the frame modification, It took about an inch off each side of just the bottom. A sawzall did the trick in about 10 minutes. Very easy |

OK, the next step was to get it ready for paint. 'While we're there' we might as well go ahead and redo the front end. Here's some pics of the process some may call progress.

More unexpected money pits... had to have the frame straightened from an unknown incident. I guess thats what you can expect with a 42 year old truck. Here's the results. Oh, please note, the high front is due to lack of engine and transmission. It should sit pretty low once the heart is back in it.

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go
Great looking progress pics. Your basically doing what has been done to mine already. Im going with a front roll pan as well though. I like your wiring idea. Been wondering how im going to do all mine. Good luck and Im subscribing to this thread. Oh and if your ever over the memphis way look me up. Oh and where did you get the Chrome tank inlet for the bed? I think im gonna do mine that way as well. Its one of the cleanest Ive seen.

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go
Truck is looking great, keep at it. Like the tank, the fit is perfect. Thanks for the idea.

Same to you if you are ever in NW Arkansas. The gas filler was purchased from The Hot Rod Company. Here's a direct link to the part: http://www.thehotrodcompany.com/shop...duct_id=351330 Thanks for all the compliments! |

Well, not a lot to report lately, but I thought I'd post some pics of our engine as I last saw her. Soon to be a 383 Stroker. Another one of those "wasn't in the original build plan" plans.
|
Re: Project Where'd The Money Go
What kind of progress have you made lately?
|
Re: Project Where'd The Money Go
Well, I hope to post some pics later today. Just got my engine back from the machine shop. It's now a 383 stroker. Not much progress on the body based on mylast conversation with the body man. Trying to figure out his timeframe for completing it. Otherwise, ordered radiator and dual electric fan setup from a guy on Ebay and waiting for it to get here. Lots of waiting now, it seems. :>)
