Project Tahoe on a Budget

2 Attachment(s)
My new ride 96 2door 2wd Tahoe!:metal: The only thing wrong with it is the trans slips and that's a easy fix.. It just needs a bath inside and out. It will be a look a like to my blazer down the road. My wife said I can not buy much for it until we buy a new house.:whine: That's going to be hard.. So here is the plan (budget build), Do as much as I can for not that much money. So I have be looking for parts very cheep. I am going to try and stay under $2000 on all parts. So this should be fun..

Congrats. Seems like there's some kind of sale on 2-dr/2WD Blazers. You guys keep finding them for less and less. I'm waiting on someone to pay me to take theirs....

What?! Man, I need to find a deal like that. Nice find!!!

Re: Well I am part of you guys now..

That's not a deal man, that's a steal. You better lay low from the police. Looks like a nice purchase. Keep us updated. We all know things will start getting done to it before the house. :D

Re: Well I am part of you guys now..

Two weekends ago, I saw one priced at $8750, with some big rollers and a "system". I'd much rather have yours for twice what you paid.

thats nice!

Re: Well I am part of you guys now..

I love those things. I love the price even more!

Blitz 08-19-2009 09:46 PM

Re: Well I am part of you guys now..

I see them posted in Craigslist quite a bit between about 4-8K BUT normally they're 4 wheel drive and usually the interior isn't pictured. If I found a good "steal" like that I'd cough up the cash but if I bought one of those at the normal asking price I'd be taking away from my other project. And that'd be really bad. But it's still tempting as "L" when I see a nice one posted up.

pwderman 08-19-2009 10:54 PM

Re: Well I am part of you guys now..

that's a killer deal...:jdp:...I thought the one in Seattle was a steal at $4,500...I couldn't even afford to sell mine...guess I'll have to throw more money at it...

Thanks guys..

Well I did clean it up and took all the trim off. But take a look at this, I was looking on ebay last week and found a flip kit for a 2door Tahoe DJM kit. It was a lost and found box from a place like UPS, they sold it just to get it out of the way. Well I ended up winning it for $83.00 shipped to my house, I don't know how I got this so cheep but I did. I looked the kit up and it sells for about $300.00 so everything is just follwing in place with this thing. I may call it Budget Build Tahoe..

And I did have to go out and buy spindles, I will post pics soon..

Here is a pic of the kit

Good score on the DJM kit. My personal opinion of them isn't very high but the price was right...Bell Tech has much better engineering...my Tahoe had a DJM on it when I bought it...They don't have any stop, on the rear end cradle to keep the rear end from rotating like the Bell Techs do...I learned the hard way...believe me it wasn't fun and it could have been a lot worse...check out the way Bell Tech does it and modify the DJM to have a positive stop...just saying...

Re: Well I am part of you guys now..

Thanks for the input on that, I will check it out..

Re: Well I am part of you guys now..

Go to Bell Techs site, hit Product Range-Trucks-click on Flip and C section kits click on Product Overview-scroll down and click on the red ball by the spring and you'll see what I'm talking about. The cradle pilots on the existing RE spring pad...

Here is some pics after all the trim is off, And I had to pull all the insides out to get it clean like I want it. What a pane it was too.

Re: Well I am part of you guys now..

Wish I wasn't cash-strapped.....I'd love to have one of those.

Re: Well I am part of you guys now..

Lookin' good, I still can't believe you snagged that for 9C...when you put the flip kit on I'd be interested in buying the stock front spring hangers...I don't know why DJM has you change them???I got my '95 short bed just as low with the stock hangers and a Bell Tech kit...

Re: Well I am part of you guys now..

dude i swear you have the luck of the devil or something:devil:. usually my luck like that comes from one of the local junk yards, but never in the form of full vehicles. you gonna put any body mods on? i like the way some of the body mods make the 88-98's look, like the running boards and fender flares that are on my 94 RST stepside gmc

joe231 08-20-2009 10:05 PM

Re: Well I am part of you guys now..

much cleaner on the outside :metal:
What is your plan for wheels?

Blitz 08-21-2009 01:22 AM

Re: Well I am part of you guys now..

Hey what about the Yukon GT flares? They're factory and I always wondered what either a truck or Tahoe/Yukon would look like dropped with the flares. Are those removable or a permanent part of the 4 wheel drive package trucks?

And...it goes without saying, "I'm super jelaous of the $900 find". The interior looks pretty clean too. (sigh) One day.

joe231 08-21-2009 07:45 AM

Re: Well I am part of you guys now..

 all this talk about flares and running boards makes me wanna :puke:

I don't even like the flares and other crap on the 4X4's

don't hate me because I'm opinionated ;)

:haha:

we should join our evil forces and use it to rid the world of fender flares and running boards

60ratrod 08-21-2009 02:20 PM

Re: Well I am part of you guys now..

(hisses and attempts to use a sinister voice for diabolical monolog) you'll never rid this world of running boards and fender flares.........soon there'll be a ricer on every street with exhaust systems making them sound like pissed off over grown weed eaters!!! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA:lol::lol::lol:

hey, to each their own i guess. i kinda like the flares and running boards on my truck, but i guess i would have to see it before i like it

DISCLAIMER: i hate those friggen pissed off over grown weed eaters. there's a couple that fly down the street that i live off of here. i would love to toss out a spike strip when they do.

Blitz 08-21-2009 03:09 PM

Re: Well I am part of you guys now..

You must be thinking of some Muddin' "woooo doggie" Bushwacker type fender flares. (in British stuffy, snooty accent) "I was referring, my fellow brothers to the tasteful, distinguished OEM flares that were so gracefully applied to the Yukon GT". Think also GMC Syclone but without the entire ground effects package.

joe231 08-21-2009 03:28 PM

Re: Well I am part of you guys now..

Nah
We had the factory flares on our 1995 suburban.....hated them, but the wife wouldn't let me ditch 'em :banghead:
finally sold the sub:metal:

Blitz 08-21-2009 03:32 PM

Re: Well I am part of you guys now..

Guess it depends on tastes and in some cases color contrast. I, like you, hated 'em when it'd be a blue truck with coffee colored bottom trim and flare. Much nicer as a monochromatic set. But again, that's perspective.

joe231 08-21-2009 03:46 PM

Re: Well I am part of you guys now..

I hear ya there

our sub was blue/green with tan/peanut butter on the bottom and the flares.....it matched the leather interior, but I didn't care for it.....

60ratrod 08-21-2009 07:31 PM

Re: Well I am part of you guys now..

that's why i'm glad my truck is monochromatic on the outside. all dark gm metallic blue:metal:

Wow! A lot going on here today in this post!

It's all good, about the wheels it's up in the air right now. I do like the way this one looks. But I would like to put the same wheels on it like my blazer but I know the wife will not go for that..

Blitz 08-21-2009 10:57 PM

Re: Well I am part of you guys now..

I think I'd rather see the Vintecs also. The Rebels would be hot too. Find a way to do it. ;)

The silver tahoe above switched from 5 to 6 lug to run them boss wheels.

tvblazer78 08-23-2009 01:44 PM

Re: Well I am part of you guys now..

Wow! I did see that is was 6 lug but I was just thinking it was a 4x4 before.. Man that's a lot of work just to run them.. But it does look sick!
