What did you pay for your truck?

After seeing pics of the $400 panel, i got to thinking: what was the price of everyones truck? I paid $200 for my 69 GMC. (Canadian, which works out to about $130 US) It was hit in the drivers side and needed a rad cradle, grille and bumper. Last summer I responded to an ad in the local paper for 3 68-72 chevys. They all turned out to be 71's. I talked the guy down to $100 to strip all 3. There wasn't much left, but i did get 2 hoods, 2 rad cradles, and a couple of '71 grilles. The guy even had a holley and a carter 4 bbl sitting in the cab! My truck will eventually look like a 71.

WOW, I feel like I was robbed. I paid $2800 for mine but it is cleaner than alot of them I looked at and the guy I bought it from had the truck for more than 20 years. He pampered it so to speak, he's like 72 years old.

I gave $2500.00 for mine.Had already been painted and basically all I had to do was interior and minor detailing.60,000 miles on origial 307.The paint is not original and had all the moulding removed.I saw it last year before he had it painted and he wouldn't sell it.He also gave me a set of six lug slotted mag wheels that cleaned up real nice and look pretty good on the truck.I showed him the truck couple of weeks ago and he regrets selling it now.

I paid $1500 for mine, but only because it had a straight body, a TH400 in rock-solid shape, and a clean running 350 out of some mystery truck. It needed brakes, front end work, and the rear axle fixed.

My parts truck I think was a steal for $600. It has a staight hood, bed parts, original 350 4 bolt main, and duplicate rear axle and suspension that I have on my first one. Parts truck!

for 2 grand i got a 69 half ton long bed. all it needs is a new passenger side fender. battery acid ate a hole through it. it only had surface rust on it and a tiny hole in each of the rockers. came with strong 350 and 400 trans. havent had any problems with it since ive owned it (little over a year) the paint buffed out nicely and after it was all detailed it looked like it was worth 5000. my dad and i even fixed the oil burning problem it had.

my 69 gmc i purchased from my father original price was i think $1800,i think i gave him a $1000 and after his house burnt,i was there alot, and he told me not to worry about the rest. That truck is my baby,i wanted it the day he got it,was a Sierra Grande 69 GMC.had AC,PS,PB a good running 305 and a t400.he soon transformed it to SWB by using a 67 GMC frame he had,and a SB bed he purchased from a local yard.It needed some TLC but i drove it like this for a year or so,then i worked for him and instead of money he gave me this 65 396,and i soon stuck that in there.drove it for a few years and it started eating random plugs one everyday,so i put in this high mileage 402 i had, runs good, but leaks and puffs alittle blue.I need to pull apart the 396 and see what the problem is,and put some open chambered heads on it,change the cam etc,or put this 454 in it,or who knows??

Mixup 04-30-2002 05:15 PM

I paid $800 for my 69 swb stepside Chevy. It had no motor or trans and the bed was shot.It now has a 90 bed and a brand new 350 with a 700R4.

jku72 04-30-2002 05:28 PM

The 70 cst longhorn, with 402, and lots of options, 48000 on the clock cost me 2000, it needed a tie rod end, and paint and trim, details mostly,
my 68 burb was 750, but it has some rust, much more of a work truck, but I bought it and drove it from Portland Oregon to Maine, with no real problems, and got 18 mpg.
There are lots of cheap beaters out there, that is why these trucks are so popular, and there are a few really nice trucks, that are rare and bring good money in the right situation.
All in all, I have about 7500 in the longhorn, and about 1200 in the burb, so far, I am happy to have a nice truck, and one I can drive worry free. Parts are CHEAP!!!

$2400 for a '67 C20 CO construction/farm truck. Not the usual farm truck, since it only had 98k on the clock. Front suspension's shot, engine ('78 400sb) burned 1qt/50mi for 2 1/2 yrs til I got the time & $$$ to rebuild it, wandered all over the road til I adjusted the steering box (stopped wandering after I rebuilt it & replaced both steering column bearings), had new brakes (guy said so, half right; the fronts are new), shot m/c, dying front w/c.

Mechanically it still got me from A to B w/o fail until I had the chance to fix the problems. 3 yrs later and I have two things left to fix from when I bought it: front suspension & rear brakes. Body's in decent shape for a work truck too. Rockers have a few holes, cab corners are gone (when kicking ice off a rusted cab corner, DON'T! I lost a 3lb chunk of Bondo that kept my jack clean & dry).

Only had 8+ previous owners (the back of the title was full, and it only went back to '91).

------------------
67 C20 '78 400sb 0.030" over, 9:1 cr, CC Xtreme 4x4 254H, port-matched '69 882 heads & stock cast iron intake, rebuilt Q-jet, Summit headers (1 5/8" primaries), true dual 2 1/2" glasspacked exhaust, NP435CR trans, 4.57 Eaton rear end.
It's a decent-looking work truck. No top-end, but it's great off the line.

'69 International Loadstar 1700 school bus converted to an RV. Working p/s (only took three years and three owners to replace the belt & a pressure line), low-compression 345 (176 certified net hp @ 3800rpm), single 3" exhaust w/custom cherry bomb muffler, NP435 trans, two-speed Eaton rear end, very warm & rodent-free heaters.

I paid 1750 for mine and drove it home. looked great at the time of purchase but it soon got worse. paint started to peel and got little rust bubbles under it. the box was rusting from the inside out. that's what prompted the new box and a complete frame off resto.

well i'm new here but i thought this would be a good topic to chime in on i'm currently lookin at two trucks a 1972 with a straight body and a fairly solid suspension when this truck was all fixed it layed a 75ft patch without the driver even trying the other i'm looking at is in manhattan and is a 1970 swb with a 4spd 350 combo with a little rust on the rocker panels and cab corners but the rest is straight the guy wants 1226 so depending on the price of the other i may get the 1970 this weekend http://67-72chevytrucks.com/board/ubbhtml/smile.gif

Paid $950 for mine in June of 1992, (Yikes! ten years allready). It was running, drove it home but, had more rust than I cared to have, found this out when I began tearing it down, now ten years later, it has again, more rust than I care to have. I'm still picking up parts and prepping/chopping another cab for it (soon I hope!) So far I have purchased a cowl induction hood, inner front fenders, front roll pan, rear step fenders, rear steps and ZR rear roll pan/lights all in fiberglass. Also have new tailgate (plain) with chains and a tailgate skin (with large bowtie), one piece ventless window kit, all the glass gaskets, dash pad (black), new 70 grille, outside door handles, body mount rubber kit, rear gas tank kit and a good used tilt wheel column. Once the cab is ready I will tear down and rebuild.

Paid $2000 for mine. 3/4 ton,4wd, 350, 4:10 posi with extra reg. gear set. Bed has a few dents, front fenders need front lower redone, corners replaced, rockers replaced but PO filled in the groove between it and the floor board with braze. Doors were hacked off at vent pillar and window edge then rewelded for some reason. Probably paid too much, but not many around here. Got about $200 in converting to front discs and another $200 in a rear brake drum and new spring kit and shoes. It's 5 different colors and my wife calls it my Jed Clampet mobile.
