Pic Request: Rally wheels on a dropped truck
Got some overtime money burning a hole in my pocket, and was wondering whether it should go to replace a sliding glass door, or some new tires. Already know my vote...
Looking to put some BFG T/A type tires on my 68 longbox with a set of Chevy 6 lug rally wheels. My truck has an ECE 3.5-5 inch drop with 2.5 inch spindles up front. Anyone running this out there? How does it look? http://www.stocktonwheel.com/wheels/4x4rally.JPG |

longorange68, check out my build thread in my signature for more info on the truck. My truck is currently running a set of 15x8's w/ 235 75 R15's on all for corners, and sporting a 4.5/6" ECE drop kit with 6-lug disc brake upgrade. Here's a quick shot:

Quit thinking truck and think CAR!!!
I think these Corvette ralls wheels rock on these trucks. Here they are on one of our board member's '68. Just look at how tough they look!!!! P.S. He tells me that these are 6 lug rallys too. lol |

I'm totally down with prostreetc10- 'Vette style ralley's are much cleaner looking if you ask me!

Re: Pic Request: Rally wheels on a dropped truck
I have the oem 6 lug truck ralleys and will stick with them, they run true and will not rust.

Re: Pic Request: Rally wheels on a dropped truck
not a fan of car rallys myself... but the truck rallys look nice on these rigs...
BFGs suck in the mud http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/data/723/p2.jpg beer run? http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/data/723/g12.jpg http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/data/723/u2.jpg http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/data/723/y1.jpg http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/data/834/a23.jpg there's plenty that look better, but these give a stock vibe, while looking good, and look better than the hubcaps that are usually found on them (or lack of caps) |

Re: Pic Request: Rally wheels on a dropped truck
Unfortunately, no I do not have any additonal photos. I keep this one around as a source of inspiration for my '67 SWB project. I really dig the silver and while combo and will most likely use these colors on my ride!

Re: Pic Request: Rally wheels on a dropped truck
Beautiful trucks!!! Thanks for coming through with photos.
How would a set of 275/60R15's look on the rear end? My tranny mechanical speedo is set up for 28 inch tires and would rather not change it if I didn't have to. |

Here's mine before it was disassembled for body/paint. Front wheels are 8 -inches wide; rears are 10. Front dropped 2.5 inches and rear is dropped 4. Front tires are 245-60 T/A's. Rears are 275-60 T/A's. Wheels are from Wheel Vintique Vette-style rallye, with 6-lugs holding each one on.

Re: Pic Request: Rally wheels on a dropped truck
IMO 275/60-15 ON THE REAR AND 255/60-15'S ON THE FRONT IS WHAT I,AM RUNNING NOW and imo the only way they look good is to have truck lower alot. i,ll try to post some pic,s. of my blue & white truck asap so you can see. there small diameter and you,ll have alot of wheel well showing if you dont drop tk. alot. the photo of my truck above has 70 series on it.

The prep is the key to getting the paint to stay.Degreasing 2-3 times is about the least I would try.Making sure they are dry and at the minimum temp for the paint is also important. There's no magic to it just lots of grunt work prepping the wheels and some time.I do recommend lighter coats that just cover well since they seem to dry well and don't run.Don't get in a hurry to get the paint on all at once. All of this is info I learned from hanging out here on the BB.Many don't like rattle can paint and if you don't take the same care with it that you would with a pro spray system then you will get crappy results.I have rattle canned these wheels and the interior of my truck. Both came out well and have lasted well. They wont win any shows but they sure look better than before. And to be honest you really can't tell that the wheels were rattle canned. |
