Bought Another Truck- 1970 Stepside

5 Attachment(s)
First,... I have to say I really didn't need any more trucks or projects.
I still have my bagged '71 2wd blazer,... and my '69 292/powerglide short fleetside truck.

I have been quietly collecting parts to build another truck with a really sweet '68 cab, and an original paint fleetside bed that I found here on the board, from some great board members.

I was talking to member n2billet, about trying to find a NICE original paint truck like he usually buys.
(Lucy, Hazel, and Stella Mae to be specific)
Anyway,... Keith worked his magic for me,... and located a REALLY nice '70 Stepside on Craigslist that was within 6 hours of me.
To make a long story short,... I bought this truck over the phone with the help of a two good friends.

Member hot trux convinced me that "everyone" goes to look at stuff on Craigslist on the weekend.
If I wanted this truck I couldn't wait for my day off on Saturday.
So, Jeff (hot trux) did me a huge favor.
He took off work and went to buy this truck for me on Thursday.
So I want to use this post to say thank you, to both Keith and Jeff for making this purchase possible.

The truck is a base model C/10 '70 stepside.
250 6-cylinder, three speed, no optioned truck.
The best part,... I bought this rust free "original paint" 162k mile truck from the original owner.
The seat has been reupholstered at some point.
The engine was rebuilt at 120k miles.
It's a really nice unmolested truck.
Also factory radio delete as well.
The delete plate was in the glove box along with all the original paperwork.
(no protecto plate though)
I'm not sure what exactly I'm going to do with it yet,... but my daily driver truck is now outside,... while I park this beauty inside, out of the weather.

I will also be selling a few items in the classifieds section.
Like the mirrors, hubcaps, bumper guards (that I removed), spare tire mount, ventshades, etc.

I'll also start a build thread when I get going in that direction.

How about you just sell me the whole truck? That thing is sweet.

Excuse me while i wipe the drool from my chin........

Damn right... if you would have let this thing go I would of had to whoped you upside the head.

Can't wait to see it first hand. The rubber mat looks to be in real nice shape.

I can't wait to see what you have planned for this... :)

Re: Bought Another Truck- 1970 Stepside

Anyone ever seen a rear step bumper like that before?
Heavy duty and light weight at the same time.

Believe me,... I couldn't buy it fast enough.
And I've NEVER bought any truck without seeing it first.

I owe n2billet and hot trux both, for all the help they gave me.

To be honest,... the nephew of the original owner really helped me out also.
The owner was really hesitant to sell it over the phone.
(he wouldn't take a deposit either)
His nephew convinced him to hold it for me,... on "my word" only.

It's been a good week!

Hey Rene,...
I actually thought about you when I saw this truck.
I felt like a "C/10 King" for a day.

Wow that's a real nice one. Obviously been kept garaged. With it being in such excellent shape I'd just have to run it as is for a while anyway.

Possibly.
It's a rust free cab as well. (original rockers and cab corners)
I haven't quite decided yet.

I stop there for now,... I don't want to turn this into a F/S thread.

Thanks Randy.
I check Craigslist everyday,... but for some reason I didn't look on the day that Keith contacted me.
It gets depressing seeing high priced junk on the internet.
(I don't mind spending the $$$ for a nice truck,... just not junk)

That's why I jumped so quick on this one.

Re: Bought Another Truck- 1970 Stepside

Man, that is nice. Some of "our" trucks need to remain intact and original as there is a dwindling number of them surving all the hack & chopping. The wife is looking for a 49/50 Chevy truck, but she wants it in an original state, not restored or even painted. Anyway, it's something to think about........

Keith,

That is a very nice truck. I know what you mean about a lot of over priced trucks on the internet. I've been looking for a nice 71-72 for a while.

Re: Bought Another Truck- 1970 Stepside

NICE TRUCK ! the one posted above on craigslist for $4500 looks like a good deal ? or was that it ?
the problem over the past few year's with buying a classic car or truck was that 99.9% of them listed for sale are vehicle's that people (MOSTLY CAR DEALERS AND NORMAL JOES THAT THINK THEY ARE CAR DEALERS) have bought from long time owner's CHEAP then JACKED THE PRICE TO THE MOON and put them back up for sale , with the last 2 year's economy CRASH some of those guy's have stepped out of it FOR NOW ,
AND THATS GREAT FOR US HOBBIEST's GREAT FIND GREAT TRUCK LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!

I guess you could say I am happy.
I see these trucks on the east or west coast all the time.
I had even looked at the $4500 truck in the other Craigslist ad and wondered how I could get it to me cheaply.
Most are out of my price range.
This one was close and reasonably priced.
It's actually better than I expected.

Plus talking to the original owner was pretty cool also.

I'm developing a plan.
I like the Billet Specialties wheels idea.
I wish I could find original bench seat upholstery in the Parchment color.

The SPID sheet is faded and hard to get a good picture.
There's only two options on it.
Bronze paint, and gold(?) vinyl trim.

So the interior will probably be switched to black.

Today I pulled the interior out.
Under the rubber floor mat,... I found the original padding and a pretty nice floor.
The kick panel area is really nice.
It looks like the previous owner had repainted the footwell area on the drivers side with a brush. There was also evidence of rain leaking in, so I'll probably pull the windshield.
The PO had, at some time, installed an aftermarket AM/FM/Casstte player.
Luckliy the dash was not cut.
I'll be repainting the original radio delete plate (unless I can find a nice used on in this color), since it came that way from the factory.

i kindah liked the colour of the current bench think its destressed leather i seen it being used on some of the house sofas

maibe someone that upholsters cars and trucks can spice it up a bit by making channels across the seat and back area that should be enough to make it look like it belongs there

Keith, I would call Jerry Brown at The Truck Shop in Tenn. I know he isn't the answer to everything, but he has been into these trucks longer than anybody I know. He did my interior from a bolt he had stashed away. My truck still has that new car smell. Call him, he may can help you with this. Or he may laugh...Worth the call though.
