Parked Indefinite

Well here it sits. It's been my daily driver for the past couple years and I figured it's time to fix it up a little bit. My main goal is to do a twin turbo setup on it using a pair of holset hx35w's, but while it's off the road I plan to address the body and interior. I'm not sure how far I'll go with it but hopefully it doesn't snowball too much. Anyways, here's where it starts.

I'll be running the same engine that's currently in the truck for now. It's all stock as far I know.

I managed to get the front clip off the truck today as well as the old turbo setup. Almost ready to start planning out how I will run the twin setup. Here's some pics of the progress

Re: Parked Indefinite

My focus on the twin turbo aspect of this project was slightly derailed when I noticed somebody at the dump throwing away some decent looking bucket seat cores. Seeing as I am planning to do some sort of bucket seat setup, I figured I'd take 'em home. After looking them up they seem to be from a 69-70 mustang. Did a quick mock-up and they seem to have potential, what do you guys think?

Well, made a little headway on the project today. Managed to get the basic shape of my motor mount cut out. Came out alright, just need a little more practice with the plasma cutter I suppose. Anyways here's a couple pics:

Finished up the motor mount, now it's time to mount the turbos. Might brace it up a bit later on but it'll work fine for now.

It's going to replace the stock ones, should give me plenty of room to run the hot side piping with them out of the way

Got a start on the headers. Stumbled upon this old set, and despite being rotten on the bottom, they're solid up top. So I cut off the excess and bolted the remainder to the head. They're going to work out pretty good

Thanks! Not too worried about the manual brakes as they can work just as good as a power system.

Thanks for the encouraging words! I actually managed to get a MSD 6btm when a friend was putting his car back to stock. Was a good day!

Managed to finish up the turbo mounts, next up will be the hot side piping. Here's the pics

Oh yeah, looks awesome! Did you do anything to the old engine to hold boost? And where can a guy get the aluminum inlet that bolts to the carb? You have me thinking.

Awesome fab work! I like it! Don't get me wrong... I don't think the motor is going to last without a forged bottom end... BUT all the hard work will be done fabing everything if and when that happens you will just have to swap engines. KEEP IT UP.

Engine is bone stock as far as I know, and it took 8lbs boost without issue with the old setup. Might treat it to an oil change though, we'll see.

Thanks again! Agree 100%. Forged would be ideal, but just not in the cards right now. I have confidence in the stocker though, and it'll be simple enough to change later on when the right deal comes along.

Anyways, the hotside piping is done, here's the pics

Re: Parked Indefinite

Well, here's where I'm at as of tonight. After I finished mocking up the turbos I decided to turn my attention to the rest of the truck and this what happened:
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...8/100_1016.jpg
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...8/100_1017.jpg
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...8/100_1021.jpg
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...8/100_1019.jpg

Hoping to have the frame painted and back on all fours in the next few days. After that I will be repairing the minor rust on the cab and box. Quite happy that the truck turned out to be as solid as it is, not very common around here

Re: Parked Indefinite

Hey gang, progress has been a bit slow, but managed to get a coat of black on the frame. Now with the cab back on, the decision has been made to get that firewall smooth. I've done it on another car I own, but held back a little bit. Think I'm going to challenge myself with this endeavor and shoot for a completely flat 'wall. Just trying to finalize a plan and then its time to juice up the plasma and have at it. Here's some pics of getting the cab prepared as I ponder which cut to make first...

Re: Parked Indefinite

The monotony of my day to day garbage job has been having a direct effect on my life. Depressed, unmotivated and generally lost, I've not only turned to my tried and true mix of Jim Beam and off brand ginger ale, I've been trying to draw inspiration from my first try at a turbo small block. Pictures will follow, but let me set the scene. Young, broke, clueless, yet motivated(!) I hit up craigslist in search of the largest cheapest turbo money could buy. Well i couldn't have been more tickled to have stumbled upon not only an exceptionally large turbo, it was a cheap turbo! $60 was a small price to pay to join to forced induction club i thought, and the process to fit this behemoth to my vortec headed sbc was set to begin! I'll add to this story in time but for now i'll describe the following pics. First 2 are of the relic itself; likely a long forgotten milestone of the pinnacle of turbochargers in the early 60's. The following trio show how to drain a turbo and reference a mechanical pump on the cheap. The last pic, however, is a warning to those who have spent the time to build a turbo setup. Don't waste your time doing this, then invite all of your buddies over with the intent to show off how sweet it sounds spooling up. A turbo most likely won't spool up like you'd wish with zero load on the engine. An embarrassing lesson learned for sure.

I would argue that garbage collection is one of the most important jobs in existence. If there were no doctors people would survive, many would die from disease, but the fact is most would live. If there were no lawyers … well I’m not going to go into that. I can think of many people this world could possibly do without. Life would be worse and more difficult without many professions, but most people would survive. But if there was no one to take the refuse of the world and put in a safe place, there could not be enough people in the health care profession to deal with the disease that would occur. If you are gainfully employed doing an honest day’s job, you are in fact making the world a better place for us all doing the LORD’s work and have no reason at all to be lost. Plus, you also have the opportunity many of us do not, to run across some pretty cool stuff some idiot does not value, and has thrown away.

While you make a great point about the importance of garbage collection, I think you may have read into my Jim Beam and ginger ale fueled rant a little too literally. I'm not a garbage collector. I was merely stating how I felt my go nowhere job, which does nothing to make the world a better place, was comparable to garbage.

Tonight concluded with the passenger side of the firewall almost completely welded and ground down. Turned out better than expected with minimal warping, which is rare for me. Next up is the driver side
