Here is the Show Me "Sketchy Deal" project thread.
There is a crazy story to follow soon. Thinking I will lower the truck and maybe smoothies. |

Re: Project Sketchy Deal
Hey buddy.... glad to see you back into a project.
Keep us posted on your progress. Maybe if it's running this fall you can bring it up to the All Truck Nat's. :) |
Re: Project Sketchy Deal
nice looking truck how about the story?
|
Re: Project Sketchy Deal
Pretty cool truck, I have always been a fan of traditional flames over black. She'll look sweet with an altitude adjustment!
|
Re: Project Sketchy Deal
Great start, will look awesome with the altitude adjustment and the smoothies. You swapping out the rear bumper? subscribed!
|
Re: Project Sketchy Deal
Diggin the flames! Polish the slots and slam that dude!
|

Re: Project Sketchy Deal
O.K. so I typed my story out twice now...its a long story and both times by the time I finished typing and hit post quick reply I am logged out for some reason.Tried once on the lap top and once on the Ipad. Probably just as well because the plot of the storyhas thickened.
Here is the very short and condenced version. I buy a truck and match the title number to the vin number on the door jamb vin plate. However I did not look at the numbers on the frame. The Kansas Vin Inspecter/Trooper pulls the vin plate and tells me its not solen and I can file for a Quiet Title. I called a lawyer today and they can fix it for me for $1100. Not sure which way to go. I really don't really want to part it out on C.L. to recoop my loss but I may have to. |
Re: Project Sketchy Deal
That's crazy Scott.
To bad you don't live in MO... sounds like quite the process over in KS to register. |

I keep thinking...be careful when you buy a truck with flames...you might get burned.;) Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Project Sketchy Deal
Could you not title it in another state an then bring it back cheaper?
|

It would still need to be inspected and the Kansas State Trooper removed the vin plate from the truck. Quiet Title is the only legal way for me to register it. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Project Sketchy Deal
man that's a sad story, I hope you can work it out cheaply
|
Re: Project Sketchy Deal
Maybe you could find a cheap short wheel base truck and swap everything over???
|
Re: Project Sketchy Deal
I think will pose the question of this issue in the general discussion.

Re: Project Sketchy Deal
So someone did a frame swap then? Is the frame listed as stolen? Looks like a cool truck....hope you can keep it...but...$1100 that's a bitter pill to swallow...

Re: Project Sketchy Deal
too bad you don't have the vin plate still, just emissions in az, and then "sell" it to a friend for a day, then sell it back as a az title. :(
they care nothing about frame swaps out here, just engine and tag match |
Re: Project Sketchy Deal
Never heard of a "quiet title" but that stinks that they pulled your vin tag because the frame has been swapped. I had to drive my clunker to the tag office because it was an out of state sale and a "title 42" maybe that is similar?? They just looked at the vin plate on the door jamb and the mileage on my gauge cluster which was not installed. I had to show them where the Vin plate was .. They dont bother with frame Vin just the cab/body Vin in Oklahoma. I hope you get this sorted out and get to enjoy the truck. I really wish all 50 states would get on the same page with title work on thses old trucks, and with all the silly business perhaps maybe a required Vin inspection prior to selling so this crap doesn't happen. Must be a green conspiracy to melt down our classics and turn them into Prius-es.

Re: Project Sketchy Deal
If noting came back stolen whats the problem, and why take the vin plate?
|
Re: Project Sketchy Deal
I would be pissed if they took the VIN tag.
I hope things work out for you. |

Re: Project Sketchy Deal
I am at a loss as to why an inspection was required in the first place. Was the title from another state? Texas is not nearly as complicated.

In Kansas when you purchase a vehicle from another state you have to have the vin # inspected before you can title it in your name. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Project Sketchy Deal
well i guess your inspector was being alittle bit more thorough with your inspection. i bought my 72 in oklahoma and had the sheriff's department do my inspection when i brought it home and they just checked the title to door jam and mileage. hopefully it all works out for you
|
Re: Project Sketchy Deal
Wow.. I'm glad Vermont doesn't have laws like that. To register this truck in Vermont, you would only need a bill of sale. We don't even have titles for vehicles that old.
|
Re: Project Sketchy Deal
I am currently running into the same problem.
When I bought my truck out of colorado, it had a clean title that matched the vin plate on the body. Take it to the inspection station only to have them search around under it for 45 minutes before they find a frame VIN (luckily not stolen) They gave up after that and told me about the quiet title stuff.... The whole thing is kinda BS and sketchy. They are absolutely no help at the inspection station. One would think that if we had to go through all of this crap to jump through THEIR hoops, they would at least throw us a bone beyond "go find a lawyer, and pay a lot of money" |
Re: Project Sketchy Deal
I would have thought b now this party would have played itself out.

I started this thread as a project build thread. The situation worsens the further I get into the legality of registering the truck. For those that are still confused google ksa 8-116 I don't know how to link the site with an IPad. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Project Sketchy Deal
Is the truck for sale with a bill of sale? I have a restored 71 GMC swb step that I might be interested in taking your truck as partial trade. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/c...p?product=5529

Re: Project Sketchy Deal
Is the truck a 67 or 68? Or 68 1/2 since it has rear markers but no fronts... Or is it neither? Haha
