New steering wheel

I bought this off E-Bay a couple of weeks ago. I plan to clean it up and paint it Red and silver. I need some help though!

It's Chevelle steering wheel but I know a lot of people have them in their trucks.

I need to findout where to buy a nice horn button for it. I need the interal's for it also. Any suggestions on where to get the stuff?
It has the terminals and wiring to the 2 prongs but nothing in the center is there as u can see in the picture.

Thanks,
I sure hope so. The only thing I'm worried about is the size of the wheel. Not the over all diameter but the thickness of the wheel. Reason being I have had carpal tunnel in both hands. I've had surgery on both. I like the thickness of the old Covette wheel, but I think this will look tons better. I may try and do something to this wheel to help with it.

Re: New steering wheel

Well the buddies beep blaster wasn't working so I did the old paint remover and sanding. I think I got pretty good but still not 100% good with it. I think I may try and find a another beep blaster.
Had to get ready for work so I'll post pictures tomorrow I hope.

Re: New steering wheel

Well I sanded it down and got all the crackes filled I think. Looks better than it did. Going to let it sit another day before I primmer it. I guess I'll use regular primmer on it. Anybody got any suggestions?
I got to looking at the horn insert (SS) emblem is just poped in there would be easy to put some kind of truck emblem in there I think if I can find one to fit.

Here are a couple of pictures with new cap on it.

Thanks,
yea I think I'll buy the paint kit like I did for my metal cooler. They match the paint up and give u enough hardner to spray it with. It's exact match and it's comes with a sprayer like this.

Wow thats pretty cool.

Andy4639 10-26-2012 08:36 PM

Re: New steering wheel

Yea I painted that cooler a year ago and it looks as good today as it did when I painted it. I think it's about $80.00 for a sprayer and the paint & hardner for those 2 colors though but well worth it for the end product.
Should be 1/2 that for just the red I hope.

I haven't measured it. I will have to do that tomorrow and post. I have a stock corvette wheel on now and it's maybe a inch are so bigger than it.;):chevy:

I hadn't either. I have the expoxy sitting in the garage and planed to use it when I came across a article about repairing the steering wheels with body filler. It stated as long as the cracks weren't big are all the way through to use filler so I decided to try it. None of the cracks were that bad just wanted it to look cleaner.
First time fixing a wheel so we shall see how it goes.

Well I'm off Thursday night so I hope to get it painted by the weekend. Then wait a week and spray it with the clear.
The weather has been helping me either though. Cold and raining last few days.

Why a week for the clear? Needs that long to cure or personal time constraints!

Both. The guy at paint store said at least a week of cure time and working 12hr nights and weather it maybe even longer.
Hope to get it painted tomorrow during the day at least one coat anyway.
