'Old Blue" was her Nickname.Loved that truck Dearly.I hope to be reunited someday

If anyone knows anything about this Truck. Please let me know

It was Originally Howard Schrums truck(My Great Grandfather). My Pawpaw Gerald Schrum bought it and drove it for numerous of times.Parked it out in the Pasture.Where it sat for 15 years. He passed in 2010, and they were selling things.I wanted that truck more then anything of his.It was sold to a man in Maiden,NC about 3 months after his passing.I watched it get towed to his house.About 5 months passed.I started thinking about finding it and buying it, I searched and searched for the VIN #.Due to a bad memory I couldnt recall the guy who bought it from us.I went through Records at the DMV,Insurance Company.Recently I went to the Tax Office and found the Vin Number out .Vin #: CE134B117643.I found out the guys name "Dustin Dellinger" He told me that he had to sell it due to money restraints.Although I was so excited to finally recover my Pawpaws truck, I learned the bad truth about it.It had been sold to a guy in Denton,NC.Probably in his late 50's early 60's.The Case went cold.I have Police involved on the search for my Pawpaws truck. My Pawpaw meant the world to me, and I just want his old truck back so I can have something of his

While I wish you good luck in finding the truck there are rules on the board about multiple posts and duplicate threads. We really need to have all three threads on this quest combined as a common thread. You have been posting freely to all of them and often. So lets get a moderator to combine the threads and then everyone will be on the same page and stay informed.

On thing that puzzles me is how and why the police are involved? Is there a problem you are not telling us about?

Felt the same about the Capri we sold back in 2001. My dad owned it forever and used it to get to College everyday (Green River Community College) during the 90's. I just started going there last Fall, and wouldn't you know it, I saw it there. Same color, front damage near the door, 4 speed, Inline6 (but with 5.0 emblems my uncle stuck on it) even the UW sticker on the back.

Small world. Keep trying.

Is there a sentimental thread/find out there??....there should be, because I'm sure alot of us got a great story behind a build or a find that meant alot to get back to the family....Memories ....

I have her older sister, .. but man that is a nice one too! I'd contact the North Carolina DMV and see if maybe they can tell you when it was last registered? They probably won't tell you to whom though. Love the GMC SWB.

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA

I find it odd that you cannot find it when you have the complete VIN#. Doesnt the DMV keep any records of who buys and registers vehicles? In Canada if you buy or sell a vehicle, there is "paperwork" such as owner transfer papers and registration papers... and I dont see how the truck can be lost. I guess maybe if it was sold as "parts" without a title then yeah it could be impossible to find. You would think the DMV would be able to search their database and tell you who the truck has been transfer too and whos name its registered in? And the police cant run the VIN either? That sounds odd but then again I am in Canada and maybe things are different up here.

It looks a little like my 70 Chevy C-10 before it's restoration and the VIN is only " a few thousand " off . . .

How long ago did it sell? I hope it didn't get parted out.. :banghead:

It's odd that it was never registered to someone else, which could also mean it's in a barn somewhere and still looks exactly the same as it did when you sold it.

SCHRUMGMC 12-20-2012 10:39 AM

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA

Oh no I dont think they parted it out, due to the new wheels and gas tank they put in.I have a feeling its being re done.but hopefully not show room style.Which would be dumb on the new owners part

If he'd put it in his name, Id have the Police Track it down.I hope the old man hasnt completely redone it.I'll be upset beyone belief

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA

While I understand your sentiment, why bash a new owner for removing things or redoing it? How would it be dumb for the new owner to redo it? Chances are, it being a short wide, it is being torn apart.

After all, it is his now.

No its not being torn apart, its being fixed up.They put a new gas tank in it with corvetter rally wheels

I understand....I meant basically I cant understand my Logic, I could of had that truck..When my pawpaw passed everyone and i mean everyone swarmed his farm wanting crap...bothering us constantly

SCHRUMGMC 12-30-2012 02:11 AM

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA

He took off the Mirrors because "He didnt like them¨...Scrapped the Factory Wheels, which I still to this day dont understand why he did that.I would of just kept them....I will find it and when I do and raise money.IT wont go anywhere.I will be damned if someone asks to buy it.I will flip out

Way to have a Negative response to me finding my pawpaws truck.I know it isnt being torn apart. the newest owner paid too much to tear it apart:metal:

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA

I really hope you find your truck! I'd love to find my first pickup (my first 'mine' truck was a '93 Dakota, my first pickup was a '68 GMC almost identical to that), and I have my dad's 70 Roadrunner project sitting up at the farm, and with Grandpa gone and Grandma all alone and looking at getting off the farm within the next few years, the car is in grave danger.

I would seriously kill my own mother over that car, so I know where you're coming from. Still, I haven't seen it in many years and my grandma (bless her heart) isn't the most honest of people, so I honestly can say I do not know if it is still in the back of the barn or if it got scrapped/sold/etc. by now... I do hold the title, however...

I don't think it's a negative response, just speaking of the truth. The new owner has no way of knowing that someone is looking for the truck. It's not like there is a law about having to wait a certain amount of time before changing a vehicle to your liking. I'm sure the new owner had plans of his own for the truck and is acting upon them.

Also, there is no amount a person will pay for something that they may not tear it apart. Lots of guys have spent a huge sum of money on a truck to still tear it down and get exactly what they want.

Has the possibility crossed your mind that the new owner may not sell it? Just preparing you for a scenario that could happen.

I do wish you luck in finding the truck and hope you are able to purchase it when you find it.

Why dont you go get the car ?... I wish I could find my pawpaws truck already, If the guy would put it in his name already Id have the Police locate it

SCHRUMGMC 12-30-2012 04:11 AM

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA

The NEW, NEW owner bought it for $1,800. So I think it as sold again for $2,800 for a NEw Gas Tank and a few more new things..

Oh I understand, if he doesnt want to sell it atleast I will know where its at....It sat out in our pasture for years...Hell I still have photos of it NEW

Oh I meant the negative response to Ït¨s being torn apart, hell i know its not lol

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA

The problem with these trucks is that they are so easy to change and swap parts around. It could be a black chevy 4x4 by now with a different frame, insured and driving around on the road. If its been two years since you sold it and there are no records of it being registered to anyone else, chances are its either been parted out, or its being restored or has been changed into something else like a 4x4 and has a different frame or VIN number. Not trying to be mean, but just stating the reality of it. I really hope you do find it my friend. I can tell how much it means to you. Keep up the search, hopefully you will find it.

72freak 12-30-2012 08:59 AM

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA

Atleast you know where it is. Let them know you want to be in line if they ever decide to sell it. The good thing about the removed parts is every part of that truck is reproduced or can be found used so if you ever do get it back it can be put back together the way ot was with the exception of the camper shell and they pop up now and again.

Have you tried throwing money at the new owner to get it back?

Because I have no place for it and no money to start fixing it up. It was Dad's hot-rod build; no interior currently, 440 6-pack swap (originally a 383 car)... If I start it, it is getting a 100% frame-off rotisserie body resto. It will be 90% resto, 10% deviation; bucket seats, black interior, dark blue (B7) paint, slightly different sticker options, maybe a very slight body drop since I gotta cut the majority of the floor apart due to bad rusting and also to give it a good aggressive stance, etc etc etc. and I just don't have the time, money, or facility for such an endeavor... The C10 I want to build is going to start as a parking lot hotrod job, with minor body fixes here and there until I can get back home to all my bodyworking tools and space enough to pull it apart completely.

Also, those saying it may be parted out or built are correct; if he hasn't registered it in a good long while, chances are that the newest owner is either fixing it up or parting it out; no need to register in either case... Further, it could be that he bought it for cheap and sold it for scrap... Seriously, God only knows. For your sake, I truly hope the guy is just lazy and hasn't gotten around to registering the truck yet, but part-out/crush/resto is a very real possibility, and you cannot forget that. Further, I hope people who brought this stuff up go look at their own C10's and think about how they would feel if they somehow lost it into a system and someone started stripping it or heavily modifying it...

Mr. Schrum, I hope for your sake the guy who has it now is currently doing a 100% factory restoration..... It'd be like getting your truck back from right after your grandpa bought it, to start a -new- legacy with a newer Schrum. :)

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA

Yeah, honestly. The New owner from what the guy we sold it to said. That he was going to restore it.I hope no top notch restoration though.Yeah this truck really does mean a lot and Id hope that eventually soon the new owner will put it in his name, so i can give him a call.Thankfully I know police officers around here that can give me infomation about these things...and yeah I understand what you meant about tearing it apart, however they put new wheels, gas tank, hood, etc on it so itd doubt it

SCHRUMGMC 12-30-2012 01:40 PM

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA

Plus This old GMC was bought right here in Lincolnton, Brand new by my Great Grandfather Howard Augustus Schrum, then sold to my Pawpaw. It would be mine right now, but you see how that went.I mean could you imagine people bugging the crap out of you wanting something, well thats what happened with this.We had people wanting Backhoes,Tractors, and etc.THEY WOULDNT LEAVE US ALONE.Knowing my Pawpaw passed theyd try to slick by my Nana on things such as this truck...If I had it right now, Itd have it running. I WOULD HAVE KEPT THE MIRRORS,FACTORY WHEELS,CAMPER TOP.. But peoples now and days dont seem to wanna keep stuff just in case, theyd rather have it scrapped for precious money..SIGH... I really hope I can find this thing..IT means a lot to me after Gerald passed

jocko 12-30-2012 04:10 PM

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA

I'm sure the chief of da POlice in Lincolntown NC is now questioning his deputies wondering who is giving out personal info... Ha.

Personal preference comes into play, once it's sold - the owners tend to do what they want, because it is theirs - I know I do... As would you if you were buying someone else's truck. You might not keep it like the 2nd removed owner's grandfather kept it. Just sayin, but I know what you mean - you'd like to have it like it was. True of many things in life today I believe. If/when you find it, however, you'd be able to re-find those parts you mention (except for the camper top perhaps..)

Good luck with your quest, hope you can find it.

Honestly if its been sold twice its probably being restored, if that's the case and the new owner has sank 20 grand in to it...you probably want get it back. If its been used for parts and there isnt anything left to build your stuck either way. My advise to you is find another truck similar and build it the way you grandfathers truck in your eyes and dedicate the build to him!

Either way i wish you all the luck finding it
