1957 GMC 4 speed trans and V8 bellhousing
4 Attachment(s)
I really do not want to sell this, but its wasting space when someone could really use it. This is a very hard to find 1957 GMC 4 speed trans and Pontiac V8 flywheel / bellhousing & clutch assembly out of a 100 series pickup truck. Not only is this super hard to find, this one only has 53,000 original miles and was working perfectly when removed.
Still nice and greasy and bolted to the engine except the trans itself which was separated to make it easier to move around. Everything is in the best possible shape you could ever hope to find - should be correct for 55-59 GMC models w/ Pontiac 288, 316, 347 & 336 engines. So, this has to be picked up in Arab AL unless you send a shipper after it - not sure what the weight is, but can weigh it if you are sending a truck. Zip is 35016 where its located. First 400.00 dollars takes it - probably worth 600 or more in its condition, but I do need the space so my loss your gain |
Re: 1957 GMC 4 speed trans and V8 bellhousing
OK so maybe 400 is a little steep....offers?

Re: 1957 GMC 4 speed trans and V8 bellhousing
question, got the trans stuff. I have a 57 GMC safari/camio or what ever the thing is called. Got it with a 282/4 speed in it, not original but want to get it as close to stock as possible. Do you have a motor/bellhousing/maybe font drive accessories?
I have a dealer correct a/c unit and figured out how to power steering it using 63 truck parts. I bought it in pieces and am close to finishing 2 project and want to start gathering parts. The truck was rigged bad but taken apart. Sheet metal i am handled and bed sides, but a few years ago I tried to buy a 57 GMC parts truck that had what ever ponitac engine and a 4 speed auto trans complete, drove 8 hours and it was sold from under me for fifty more bucks! Let me know Steve |

Aside from these engines, all I have is the manual trans bellhousing for sale. As you have already found, this bellhousing is tough to find, especially coming off a 44K original mileage engine like this one, so its 200 plus whatever shipping costs. I use FedEx and have an account discount so it will be as cheap as its going to be anywhere through them |

Let me go to the bldg and see what is exactly missing from the 347. seems like I had to rob the belly pan off the top under the intake, and the intake etc is all still there of course, but that pan is gone, and not sure what else - maybe the distributor is gone and ? Let me see. The Hydramatic attached to it is just a parts trans as well - someone before me had robbed the oil pan and side cover and maybe the dipstick.... |

Re: 1957 GMC 4 speed trans and V8 bellhousing
Still interested in the motor ..... definitely want the bellhousing.....I think I have everything but the block.iam guessing with out checking ....will check in the morning .dose the flywheel and clutch come with the bellhousing ? I have relatives in Lexington VA ..that maybe could be a drop off point ? The motor came from a car , because of the automatic transmission...the truck 347 was a little different compression wise ...i think not sure but the blocks should be the same ? Ok .... Great about the bellhousing ...can't wait to get it !!!just let me know about the motor price wise .(what you want for it )....

Re: 1957 GMC 4 speed trans and V8 bellhousing
Do you know what the motor came out of ?I think this might be a stupid question but you don't have and extra belly pan ...?

Re: 1957 GMC 4 speed trans and V8 bellhousing
I have a friend of mine that will be coming home in two weeks .he may pick up the motor and bellhousing and stuff from you ...going to check with him and let you know ...also if he doesn't my other friend is going down to Fla in January for 10 days he said he would definitely pick it up for me ....so one way or another I got a ride for the stuff....

Ok good .....can you send a pic of the motor
|
Re: 1957 GMC 4 speed trans and V8 bellhousing
working on that today - I have to run to the neighboring town and will go past my building where its stored and see if I can get a shot of it. Its way back in a dark corner of the bldg sitting on a concrete pad but behind a bunch of truck parts and will be difficult to photograph but I'll try.

I did finally get pics of the 347 but nothing to write home about - darkness in the building and cramped space made it difficult - as I said, I removed the intake to get to the bellypan and had to steal the distributor out of it, but looks like everything else is there

Re: 1957 GMC 4 speed trans and V8 bellhousing
Amid being a typically "dirty" engine, everything looks great parts wise - not a lot of build up on anything internal like a high miles engine would have. PM for payment info and I'll get to pulling parts. I'll have to get the mechanics on separating the 347 from its Hydramatic automatic trans, so that could take some time otherwise this stuff should pretty much be ready whenever your people can come by
