Hey Guy's, here is another build I started back in 2012 for a Guy in Arkansas.
It's a 67 GMC stepside (farm truck highly used) The plan was to replace suspension, drive train, interior, paint etc,etc...This has been going on and off for around 2yrs (at times no work done for 7mnths) Well the time has come, He finally pulled the trigger to finish the old girl so I will get the build started..

First few pics are as it rolled into the shop..
Hope you enjoy the ride..

Last 2 pics for now...of the interior and the engine bay.

Just a side note this was his Dad's truck and was given to him before he passed so their is a huge attachment to the truck for him.
Till next time.

A three pedal, four eyed, slant nose stepside. That thing just makes my heart go pitter-pat! Congrats, man. That's going to make a fine project IF you waste the Patina and toss in a BIG BLOCK!

Engine wise it will be a 5.3L 4l60E combo and smoothed out body and full paint..

Re: Blake's 67 GMC stepside build

No problem! I wish I could. I want to look for a 67/68 c10-c30 or GMC, in addition to my 68'. I want one in one of the darker colors though. something like dark Blue, dark Green, or Vermilion. id maybe go up to a 69-72 but I really like the 67/68 look in these colors. and if I get any of them I want them with white trim, not chrome. Just gotta start saving up haha!

Re: Blake's 67 GMC stepside build

LMAO that hose clamp is hysterical!! but the frame doesn't look too bad for sitting! I cant wait to start my frame-off restoration. my truck is ghetto too LMAO. The previous owner zip-tied one of the exhaust pipes to the frame because it broke off LMFAO.

...and sloped hood...hand brake? My guess is either the fenders were changed or it's actually a '68. Obviously, the 5-lugstuff has been swapped-in (or a 67-68 cab was swapped-on to a 71/72). I figure no matter how it started life it's going to be (or appear to be) a '67 fenderside when done. I'm also building a '67 GMC that started off as many other trucks from 67-72 ('71 frame). How about those grille letters

reaper71 01-12-2015 11:10 AM

Re: Blake's 67 GMC stepside build

Ok Guy's!
Yes it has things that scream 68...The Cab and title say 67...it also came from the factory with a V6,drum brakes and 3 on the tree....
The front and rear suspension was swapped years ago for 71-72 and a small block.
At the end of the day 99% of us will change things to fit our taste...
The truck is 48 yrs old (you have changed alot in 48 yrs too..Right?)

Special K, the sloped hood was standard on the 67 and the 68 models. The letters in the grill are only on the 67, all others where on the hood. Picked up some of this info from this site. http://www.pattson.com/maych/67_72_gmc.htm ...Jim

Yeah, I saw the L6 fan protector. Lots of typical changes we see. I just added a couple.

I was finishing out the prior comment made by the other member to make a point. Reason was to show there are many changed things that don't match in years, but nothing to state it's not in fact a '67. The letters on this grille are later plastic ones mounted on a 68-70 grille. No offense, but that Pattson site is fairly lame, IMO. This site has the best knowledge on the internet on 67-72 GM Trucks. It's been a long time since I checked that site, but when I did - and saw all the inaccuracy - my though was they should have come here first and they would have gotten it right

Here are some shots of the truck in the tear down stages..
They really are pointing out the Rotted Floors, kick pan's on both sides of the cab. I also found alot of rot in the rockers (inner & outer) and all the cab braces....So I will have my fun cut out for me on the metal work :b69:

Thanks for letting me know about that site, first time for a GMC for us, so it's all a learning stage. You are correct about this site, lots of good info. People on here helped me a lot to figure out what front end they had installed and also on the rear axle....Jim

That wouldn't be my choice but it's still a good choice. Not everyone shares my taste in trucks. It will make a fine daily driver.

Here are some updates for today...
Pic #1. drivers side inner & outer rocker, kick panel and cab brace.
Pic #2. same for passenger side with the floor pan as well..
Pic #3. The drivers side inner/outer removed..
Pic #4. The floor after the pan was cut out..
Pic #5. Fitting the rocker..
Any of the under lying metal that was still solid will be coated in (Eastwood Rust Encapsulator) This stuff work's really well and you don't have to wait 24hrs for it to fully cure..
