My 1991 Crew Cab project
1 Attachment(s)
So a year or two ago, I sold my 91 crew cab V3500 with a 6.2 diesel, 4L80e trans, and NP205 t-case.
Here is the thread on it: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=488080 I really liked that truck but it was a stripped down work truck that was loud and rough riding. I got a 98 K3500 CCLB with a 6.5TD/4L80E and sold my 91 to a buddy (he lifted it, cut it down to a short bed, and painted it). I really liked how the IFS truck rode and was happy to get a turbo diesel. Recently I had been contemplating getting rid of the 98, it's not really what I want. So another 91 popped up on Facebook. I posted my 98 on Facebook for sale and sold it the next day. The same evening I bought my new 91! The seller even delivered it to my house 35 miles away for no extra charge. Attachment 1557405 The good: 1991 V3500, 454 TBI, 4L80E, NP205 Fully loaded, power windows/locks, a/c, cruise, dual batteries, 9000# Warn winch. The bad: steering column is broken, there are a few rust spots, the front bench seat is destroyed, and the passenger front end is wrecked. |

I have, at least I think, drastically changed the look for the better. First I removed the running boards, bug deflector, topper, and plastic bed liner (4 things I hate). Attachment 1557447 |

The next thing I did was throw my tires and wheels on it, I got done around midnight so this picture is dark.

The next day pulled out the core support, removed the bad fender, put in a new column, and popped out the passenger front door dent. It's like it was never dented.
Attachment 1557455 The bad column is weird, the metal tube broke off clean. I'm going to disassemble it and take pictures. *sorry I can only upload one picture at a time on my phone* |

Core support now, still needs a BFH massage.
Attachment 1557459 I put the winch to work to straighten the core support. I put a snatch block on my CCSB and ran the rope back to the core. Both trucks were in 4 low and park, It was Dragging them towards each other. I finally had to get 2 helpers and have them stand on the brakes in both lol |
Re: My 1991 Crew Cab project
Nice score. Too bad your not closer to me, because I have a core support and fender.

I spent some more time straightening the core support, it's close enough until I get a fender... Attachment 1557682 |

That's gonna be an awesome truck

Re: My 1991 Crew Cab project
Nice truck! :metal:
Seems like all the 91' V3500's ended up in Alaska. I never see them for sale here. |
Re: My 1991 Crew Cab project
Thanks guys!

Re: My 1991 Crew Cab project
The 1991 V3500 is the "Holy Grail" of square bodies. I have one too.

I still have to pick up a fender. I'm going to shampoo the carpet and clean up the interior.
The back bench seat is perfect, the front has a broken frame. I just happen to have a 98-ish bench seat with center fold down arm rest. I'm planning on putting it in the front. Pic I found online of what my seat looks like Attachment 1558375 I'm also going to pull the bumpers off and replace them with a factory front bumper and a rear sport bumper. I also need to order some new grill parts... |

Re: My 1991 Crew Cab project
Looks good with the new fender. How heavy was the winch and bumper you pulled off? I've always liked that style but already have 4000 lbs over my front axle.

I'd be surprised if the combo weighs much over 100 pounds...

Started stripping out the interior
The carpet was filthy, stinky, and full of dog hair Attachment 1562978 |

My son, Jason, was helping me pull out the carpet and backing. He was on the passenger side. He said "uh dad, there is a hole over here". I thought he was joking until I looked and saw this.
Attachment 1562979 Looks like it had a leaky heater core at some point. |

I got my carpets pressure washed and my new front seat in for a test fit before I finish mounting the stock sliders to it.
Attachment 1562988 I'll have to do some grinding, patching, welding and painting before I can get the interior reassembled. I may even dye all the plastics black or grey too while I'm at it... |
Re: My 1991 Crew Cab project
Good progress. I hate those surprises.
