My 57 Chevy #2 with PB Fab frame & RideTech Coilovers
5 Attachment(s)
Yep got another 57 Task Force truck! I've had my first one for 24 years now, so thought it was a good time for another. Actually bought it just to go on the first Porter Built Fabrications frame I picked up a couple of years back. I ended up with a second PB frame when Nate offered me a killer deal on a newer version. This left me with 2 frames. I thought about just selling the first version as a roller, but the more I thought about it I figured it would be more fun to build a complete truck. So after a few months looking for a good 55-59, I lucked out and found this very clean and straight 57 on the local Craigslist.
It was torn down 10 years ago and had been sitting in a garage. It came with a ton of parts, basically everything to build it minus the engine, trans and interior! I'm pretty motivated to get this one running as soon as I came, with the plan to sell it then. Hope you guys will follow along on the build and help me out with color selection and other build details. I'll try and post as much as possible for your viewing pleasure! :uhmk: |

Hi JJ,
I’m going to tag along too! What; if any, plans do you have for a dashboard swap, any customization? |
Re: My 57 Chevy #2 with PB Fab frame & RideTech Coilovers
Thanks everyone, will try and not disappoint with the updates!
Dan, if something were to pop up, I might consider a dash swap. Maybe from a 55 Belair!! :uhmk: |

Hay Dan I shipped a couple of TF LCF doors in two 65" flatscreen boxes to PA via Grayhound and it wasn't to bad .
I think the dash would go Greyhound for reasonable $ Looks like a fun build I'll be tagging along also . |

Picked up a couple of parts from the Powder Coater. The upper and lower control arms, 4-Bars and Panhard bar done in Argento Silver and the forward 4-bar mount and lower control arm coil over mounts done in Jet Black.
They look like they were dipped in liquid plastic! :uhmk: |

I was looking at a post that you made in the shop area, to use a standard outlet for the ceiling fixture due to the every evolving lighting fixtures. I'm in the final states of building my shed, I'm going to use your wisdom for my ceiling lighting. Thanks New build looks like fun. Keep on keepin on NC :gmc: |

Nice powder coated stuff. After I was to far along I found the PB stuff. If I do it again thats the way I'd go.

Haven't posted in awhile, but here's an update. Picked some scrap I-beam and made a level welding table to mock up the frame. With it all squared up it will be completely welded up solid. I will probably weld up most of the bolt holes afterwards just to clean up the look a bit.
:uhmk: |
Re: My 57 Chevy #2 with PB Fab frame & RideTech Coilovers
Welding table is definitely the way to go, if i ever do another that will be the first thing to get done. looks like the start of another awesome truck.
|
Re: My 57 Chevy #2 with PB Fab frame & RideTech Coilovers
Good ideal with the welding table, going to be a super nice frame...Jim
|
Re: My 57 Chevy #2 with PB Fab frame & RideTech Coilovers
Dang Chuck, you are serious about this one, LOL. SCRAP I-beams??? Who throws straight non rusted steel like that away?
|
Re: My 57 Chevy #2 with PB Fab frame & RideTech Coilovers
Excellent. Definitely going to steel that idea for my next build.
|
Re: My 57 Chevy #2 with PB Fab frame & RideTech Coilovers
Wow that "welding table is fandamtastic!!!! Good get on the I-beams.
How many friends will it take to move it? Or are you just going to radiate yourself, turn green and do it alone? NC |

Well here's an update for you guys!
I had a pro welder come to my house and weld everything up after I squared everything up and tacked it together. Decided to remove the bolts and weld up the holes to make it look a little cleaner. This week I was finally able to put in some serious garage time and make it a roller, sort of a roller, don't have any wheels to fit the front hubs! The RideTech coil over shocks are very nice, hope they perform half as good as they look! Hope to keep up this pace over the summer! Next is to install a mockup motor and trans and build the exhaust and run the fuel and brake lines. :uhmk: |
