1972 K20 build California
Hello Everyone,
My name is Robert and I currently live in Northern California. I decided to finally get off of my butt and put together a thread on my 72 K20 build. My dad bought the truck in the 1990s and used it for a work truck off and on. My dad replaced the engine with a crate engine and parked it until 2003. When I got out of the Marines I drove it for two years before I went to college in San Francisco. The truck ended up being parked until 2012 when I inherited it. What I thought was going to be a simple build on the cheap has turned into a full restoration and a bottomless pit. I'm sure many of you can relate. I don't have many photos but thought it might be a good idea to start keeping everything in one place. |

This was the beginning of what was suppose to be a quick flip of changing the bed out and fixing a few things.

Re: 1972 K20 build California
This tear down started five years ago, so don't think this is a Foose overnight rebuild. After removing the rotted cab I got a new one and had it bead blasted to check for rust and bondo.Ended up repairing parts of the floor and other usual places. I filled the speaker holes in the doors. The new cab was a non AC which needed to be converted over.

Re: 1972 K20 build California
Nice truck to start with. Your new cab looks nice. A long step side K20, this is going to be nice!

I've tried uploading more photos, but keep getting rejected due to a "token" issue. I've emailed the Admin three times with no answer.

I have to place the pictures on my desktop, then go to "Go Advanced" at the bottom of the reply box, click on the paperclip icon "top" to attach photos one by one.
I'm sure tech-savvy people will chime in.... Joe |

Re: 1972 K20 build California
This was the first fuel tank. I wasn't happy with it. It was replaced with a CPP fuel cell instead. Also had the cab media blasted and started rust repairs in the usual places.

Fuel filler has been relocated to the rear inside of the bed and the tow hitch was adapted to fit around the fuel cell. These are the only two custom features done on this truck.

Interior and engine are coming together. The steering wheel is a temp and will be changed out soon. Finally got insurance on it through Hagerty. I wasn't sure that it was going to happen due to being lifted. In the end, it worked out and now has a stated amount policy.
