Winter 19/20 66 C10 build
5 Attachment(s)
Hi Guys and gals,
I try and do one build a year and have another on deck for when i finish. I've got a few other truck projects posted here but am just finishing up my 1957 Chevy 210 build and am poised to start my next. I bought this 66 in April and drove over to Mass to bring it home. I stripped it down quick to see what i was working with and then mapped my plan and started buying up parts. Ill replace most of the body parts but the cab is super clean for this area and will only require a few days patching work. I read about all of the help received from a guy named "Boris" here in the group so i reached out to him for advice on an Airbag set up as this will be my first air-ride vehicle and he was VERY helpful!. I plan to run air ride, dropped spindles with cupped control arms and a c-notch in the rear. 20x10 rears and 20x8 fronts. New 383 with th350 trans and basic performance pieces as needed. the body will remain stock appearing and uncluttered. I picked an obscure color that i had seen on a custom Camaro and then for the first time ever had a computerized rendering done. I'm very happy i did! the guy was awesome to work with and the truck is exactly as i had envisioned it. Parts are coming in and summer is winding down.. When i get started things tend to go fast but ill update as i progress! |

Some of the rendering prints. Check him out, very reasonable and super easy to work with.

Re: Winter 19/20 66 C10 build
Ok, can anyone tell me how to flip these darn pictures up right? they are correct when i save them and change when i load them to the site.

Re: Winter 19/20 66 C10 build
On showing the pics in the correct orientation, open the picture up in a photo editing program.
Find the rotate clockwise button and rotate the picture four times, which will put it back to the original orientation. Save the file. Some programs make you do an export to save it to a non-native file format. Once you do that it should show right-side up in the forums. If you don't have a photo editing program, there's one called GIMP that's free (terrible name, but decent program, especially for the price). |

Looking good.
What shocks are you running? To fix the pictures you would have to rotate them before you add them. If they are straight on your computer you will need to change the aspect ratio and that will fix them. Like below: |

changing aspect ratio helped! Thank you!
Shocks are CPP drop shocks. stock locations in front, ne brackets top and bottom out back. |
Re: Winter 19/20 66 C10 build
You bet. Got a picture of the rear setup?
Thanks |

Pretty basic i think. Firestone cup bags with C-notch, 1" blocks and adjustable panhard bar.

Re: Winter 19/20 66 C10 build
May I suggest doing the top in the same colour as the trim insert colour? I think it would look great. Same break line as on a "Custom Cab" painted truck.

Ive been working on the exhaust and its done except for a couple hangers and some minor adjusting. i needed to go with the short type headers so they were above the bottom of the frame when laid out. Came out pretty good i think.

Nice job!
I love that 57 post in the back ground. I think everyone should own a 55-57 at somepoint in their life. |
Re: Winter 19/20 66 C10 build
Keep plugging away...I love your color choice!

Took a trip to my local sheet metal guy and came back with a truck in a box!
New; bed sides, bed front, doors, radiator support, grill surround. New fenders were already home. |

Assembled the box and it went really well. The AMD parts are good quality and fit like they're supposed to. Had to get it on the floor and see about how it will sit.

New cab corners, rockers, and kick panels. Inner rockers, floors and cab mounts are all really solid. No more rust! Looking for a high hump.. where's anyone had good luck finding one that's affordable?
|
Re: Winter 19/20 66 C10 build
The high hump and the mating firewall piece are now reproduced in steel. I believe there is a thread in the '60-'66 message section about them. I think it is Tri Plus/Key Parts that offer them

Re: Winter 19/20 66 C10 build
great start! I will be starting a "66 in this same direction basically.

Re: Winter 19/20 66 C10 build
I ended up buying the fiberglass hump from slosh tubs. looks like an easy install, we'll see.

Not a lot going other than making filler dust. I did get my wheels and tires mounted. I'm thinking of redoing my rear suspension to get more drop.. looks to me like it needs to go down another 4" or so. What's everyone think? front lays on the cross member but it looks like way to much rake for me.
|
Re: Winter 19/20 66 C10 build
The rims looks nice. I agree more drop is better than less drop...

Re: Winter 19/20 66 C10 build
There used to be a place called "more drop axle". My GMC had one dropped by them. :)
|
Re: Winter 19/20 66 C10 build
I see guys using 3" blocks. is this common or acceptable? my rear is laying in notch now so i think there might be another 1" in bags. That being said, if i changed my notch and went from 1" to 3" blocks i might net a total of 3" without changing bag set up.

Xmas break has come and gone. 12 days off and i spent 10 of them in the garage.. got tons done and have established a new goals list for the truck as all were exceeded in 2019! Color is exactly what i wanted! I'm still out to pasture on the interior and trim color but it will come to me. Finished up the doors yesterday and will hang them this weekend. Steering, seats and console next.

Re: Winter 19/20 66 C10 build
Wow, i love the build so far! What front shocks did you go with?
|
Re: Winter 19/20 66 C10 build
Man that’s tough!!! I really like that green

Re: Winter 19/20 66 C10 build
I love the color and the truck as a whole. Great work and thanks for the motivation to get to work on mine!

Built a floor base to mount the seats and console. Seats are from a square body blazer and are the best seats for any classic upgrade as far as im concerned. The console is 67-72 and also is a good match for the styliyng . Ill have the seats recovered to match the interior color and theyll be good to go!
I also hung the doors to keep me inspired. Some odds and ends to finish up and then ill be pushing it aside to finish off my 57. |
