Sierra Custom Package?

2 Attachment(s)
Hi all, I have a 70 GMC 1/2 ton long bed with a Sierra Custom package and I cannot find anything on this particular package. I see Super Custom, Custom and Sierra packages but haven't been able to find the Sierra Custom info. It's an all white truck with black bottom exterior molding (no molding above) with green glove box, green dash pad and green instrument cluster, green visors, green scrolled vinyl with wood door panels and green scrolled vinyl with cloth bench seat, but the metal parts of the interior (beyond the glove box door) are all the exterior white color. It did not come with a headliner.

I am trying to get more info on this package as I need to replace the seat cover and I'd like to find a replacement that is NOS, or a copy of the original. The cloth part of the seat does not look like the hounds tooth on the Chevy Cheyenne package.

Thanks for the help!

I don't think the Sierra Custom package was an option for 67-72 Trucks

Re: Sierra Custom Package?

It actually lists "Sierra Custom Package" in the glove box option list.

Interesting ... Is this the original glove box?

Even though it says it ... I think it is incorrect....

Google :metal:
"The Chevrolet Silverado, and its mechanically identical counterpart the GMC Sierra, are a series of full-size and heavy-duty pickup trucks manufactured by General Motors and introduced in 1998 as the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K line"

Re: Sierra Custom Package?

It is the original glove box.

71super402 04-08-2020 03:19 PM

Re: Sierra Custom Package?

In the glove box it lists the option as Z16

samkost 04-08-2020 04:45 PM

Re: Sierra Custom Package?

Z17 Sierra Grande Package maybe?

http://outintheshop.com/options.html

No Z16 option listed from the above link.

Post a photo of your SPID label :chevy:

Re: Sierra Custom Package?

Yeah this is a weird one-after speaking with Frank from Frank's pickmups, that it was ordered this way as there were packages and individual options that you could add to a package. The crappy thing is, he said it is impossible to find the cloth pattern that my seat has.

Samkost how do I post a photo? It is asking me for a URL to post the photo. I tried pasting it into body of message and this forum won't let me.

There always something new with these trucks :burnout:

Re: Sierra Custom Package?

Ok, you have an early Sierra. That's why no headliner. The deal is, prior to '71 Sierra was not it's own group, but an addition to the Custom and Super Custom trim level. Kind of like how Highlander was not it's own trim level, but added to Custom Deluxe. The cloth insert material you need is the lacey, as I call it, nylon fabric that came in 69/70 mid-level (Custom) and 71/72 mid-level trim (Custom Deluxe/Super Custom).

Are your pictures on your computer? If so, hit "Go Advanced" in your post at the bottom right. Scroll down to "Manage Attachments", click. Hit browse when the window comes up, then you will be taken to your folders. One do one or two pictures at a time. You can do all five in one post, but one or two at a time.

I am far from computer saavy:lol:
Photos need to be downloaded to your computer photo files/album.
When posting on the "reply to thread" scroll down and click on "manage attachments"
This will direct you to your photo files.
From there you can upload your photos.
Hope this helps ;)

I haven't tried but I believe people are finding this cloth at SMS. I could be wrong.

Plus they have 19% off right now if you mention it when ordering.

I was under the impression the GMC fabric is different from the Chevy fabric, but maybe not? If not, yeah, definitely go CarsInc.

These covers are the same.

That looks great. I didn't find the GMC initially so I will look again.

If you buy the Custom Deluxe trim level olive seat cover for a Chev, you will have the correct cover.

Thanks for this question

Our trucks are always a learning process.

Thanks for the heads up to this company Joe. Seat covers cut down on labor costs. CARSinc needs to post more photos of their available covers!

Re: Sierra Custom Package?

70cst, yeah it was a bit confusing for sure but I guess GM did a lot of this not only with trucks but cars too (tailoring packages to the initial buyer).

Re: Sierra Custom Package?

That's pretty unique that one hasn't turned up before now.
So how is it badged?
Sierra emblem on side of box and Custom script under side windows?
Would you post some more photos? Thanks

SMS Auto Fabrics should have your vinyl and cloth. They can emboss the center vinyl too. You can request samples. I ordered mine from them and then had a shop in town do my seat.

Re: Sierra Custom Package?

Nice! I'm going to have to do the seat in my truck, but I'm leaning towards parchment instead of the factory SPID black, given the difference in butt and leg blisters, here in the California sun. :ack: Pending approval from the female spousal unit, there is a chunk of foam with a towel over it. :(

I had them make me a set of saddle w/saddle houndtooth bucket seat covers back in '91 for a Cheyenne Super I mildly customized with factory-like appearance. They were top quality from the material to the craftsmanship. This was around when ready-made OEM style seat covers just became available. But the catalogs only carried a few colors/styles

Re: Sierra Custom Package?

Nice truck...really like the color combo & the patina!! Cant say that I've seen that combo very many times!

71super402 04-10-2020 04:39 PM

Re: Sierra Custom Package?

Thanks RustyTruck50. It is a color combo I had not seen before. I've waffled back and forth on whether to sand the surface rust off and clear it, or repaint it. Next is convert to disc and do a static drop...after I restore the interior.

rustytruck50 04-10-2020 05:29 PM

Re: Sierra Custom Package?

I'd run it just like that...paint-wise...a little satin or the flattest clear you can find to maintain the patina until you decide to go a different route
Sounds like you have a good plan in place!

special-K 04-10-2020 08:43 PM

Re: Sierra Custom Package?

I'd paint it. It would look really good with a crisp white paint job and stand out from all the patina trucks you see everywhere.

I can't argue with that reasoning either, Tim. Patina is more budget friendly

special-K 04-10-2020 10:33 PM

Re: Sierra Custom Package?

Yeah, and I agree there's no hurry. Patina fits my budget. Just looks like an easy resto from here and something about a factory trim white long bed is sexy.
