Re: Correct color for sport bumper gravel shields
Gravel shields on blazers at least were body color. Body color on pickups also?

so please tell me what color the gravel guards you have on it. Thank you Sir |
Re: Correct color for sport bumper gravel shields
My fairly stock '72 are argent. I know the rear bumper is original and the guards look 100% stock - both unrestored.
Caveat - Way back in 1984, I ordered an OEM bumper with guards through the Chevy dealership that I worked in, and those were mat-black |
Re: Correct color for sport bumper gravel shields
Seems to me it they varied black, argent or body color:lol:;) from factory.

Re: Correct color for sport bumper gravel shields
Photos here depict the shadow from gravel shields on a Blazer floor pan when they were painted at the factory: https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...&postcount=361 other similar examples are documented.

Re: Correct color for sport bumper gravel shields
it's ludicrous to believe these were body color, IMO...and I have NEVER, ever seen it. there's zero point for that, as they are nearly hidden. from a logical point, the only colors that make any sort of sense is black (as they are hidden) or argent (as the bumper is chrome). Unless someone shows me period photos, my mind will never change. LOL

My 72 C10 Cheyenne original black.

Re: Correct color for sport bumper gravel shields
It's indisputable that Blazers for at least 72 received painted gravel shields and an advanced search of the Blazer/Suburban parts board will yield numerous original examples. I'm uncertain whether or not pickups also received painted examples or if perhaps there are plant specific examples.
As a reminder, it was common belief that door latches were never painted. Now we know that St Louis for the 72 model year painted these together with the door, which was a technique carried into square body years. Related thread here: https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=819392 |

Re: Correct color for sport bumper gravel shields
Body color is what I have found on original paint trucks over the time I've been into these trucks. Many look like just overspray from being installed in factory black primer. The bottom is still primer. I don't need to remember because my involvement with these trucks has been constant. I've seen trucks with them painted argent. It's a very nice touch, I've done that on trucks myself for better detail. Maybe what GM should have done.

My original paint SWB K10 super was body color and my K20 super is body color also.
