I have beem looking for the right Blazer for years. By right, I mean affordable and very little rust. Those two don't typically go together but I managed to snag this original paint truck a few weeks ago.

Very clean, very smelly, missing engine and back seat. It also has a 73+ low back seat in for the driver side I think since the brackets don't reach the factory mounting points and appear taller at the front.

Originally an automatic and was converted to a manual a long time ago. Not sure what the plan is but I am just happy to have it.

What a solid beginning! Looks to be original paint. That is an extremely early build 1970.

How can you tell by looking that it's an early 70 truck? It was built in 69 so that is correct.

That’s interesting. One thing I noticed is that the vin plaque in the door jam is half the size of a normal one. Two rosette rivets are holding it in place and the bottom two rivets are in the sheetmetal but the plaque doesn’t extend down that far. I’ve never had a truck like that.

Or at least I don’t remember having one like that.

I've owned suburbans & pickups, never had a blazer. Someone straighten out my confusion, why does it mention the top twice on the spid? Removable top & auxiliary top

Low sequence number 101341. First few weeks of MY 1970 production. My March 1970 built 1970 Blazer ends in S154197

What a great find. Was that here in the Midwest or elsewhere? Neat SPID, still dialing in RPO details I suspect.

The truck was purchased in north west Nebraska by Wyoming and South Dakota.

I have the original registration for it and it looks like it was from South Dakota when it was first purchased.

I’ve got some additional pictures I’ll post sometime soon.

Here are some additional pictures. Started cleaning the inside up. Blazer was originally registered in South Dakota 3/70.

You sure lucked out on this one. Most, like myself, start with heavily rotted Blazers that require tons of metal work and man hours to get the bodies right again.

I noticed tailgate letters were painted.., I'm still trying to find out what was determining factor for those that got the painted letters vs. those that did not. My 72 in medium olive with original paint does not have the painted tailgate letters.

Just curious,

That was a google image shot of the truck. I bought it without seeing it in person and wanted to make sure it was actually at the address they said it was at!

Re: Sat for 20 years in a field - Original '70 Blazer

I’ve recently acquired a bunch of parts and will soon be putting this together. I’m converting it back to auto from the swapped in 4spd, putting a 72 pullout engine from a suburban along with upgrading to power steering and power brakes.

Someone swapped in a disc brake Dana 44 so I’m ahead on that one.

I’m just going to put it back together so it looks like it was never apart.

I’ll post some pictures of my parts score at a later date.

Re: Sat for 20 years in a field - Original '70 Blazer

The truck was originally an auto truck and I am going to put it back to auto along with upgrade to power brakes and steering.

Interestingly it came with the utility bucket seats. It has a set of standard buckets currently and I couldn't figure out why the brackets didn't reach the holes in the floor.

So anyone have a lead on utility buckets or are those impossible to track down? If I could track down a set I have a pair of buckets with tracks that I could sell to offset the cost.

Looks like you snagged a rare '72 optional coolant recovery tank with the shroud.

I too am working on a 2 owner 1970 frame off restoration. All original frame and driveline. Much of the body has already been replaced. Would have loved to start with such a solid unit such as the original posters.
