Dragging home something very original today...

I came across a pickup I just couldn't pass up. Quite a bit nicer than what I normally buy. But VERY original, just the way I like them. I got the "fever" on this one. I will have to sell some things to pay for it

I'm off to get the trailer and a cashier's check...

Here's a sneak peek, just a teaser for now, more to come... :mm:

The doors, fenders, and tailgate have been re-sprayed. Pretty much everything else is original paint. And it’s very hard to tell, which is which!

I could tell it was a '67 just by the original 'slimline' door handle and window crank from the first pic... Well preserved. Or nicely restored to Period Correct. Paint looks fresh.
What does the odometer read?

Thank you, it's really an honor to have a truck in the same realm as your 68!

I'll send you a PM. It was a fair price but not cheap.

This was on consignment at a classic car dealer. Owned by a car collector. Not sure how he came across it, but all he did was the detailing and touch ups, he came across it very preserved. So not a whole lot of back story that I'm familiar with unfortunately.

I was not planning to buy a truck this nice, and I normally don't buy from dealers (I'm too cheap), but I couldn't pass it up as original as it is. Also I feel like it was a reasonable price considering the condition.

Oops missed your post.

It has the 250 i-6 and 4-spd. I definitely wish it was an auto, but I do like the 6-cyl.

Beautiful

What city is the truck from?

'68OrangeSunshine 04-13-2024 05:20 AM

Re: Dragging home something very original today...

Sweet little 250 L6. SM420 probably.
40,425 original miles!??
WOW.
Can't fathom why someone didn't run the hell out of that truck, long ago...
I bought my '68 C/10 in 1973, and it already had almost 80K on the clock. But judging from the color and spartan features, I think it was originally a CalTrans supervisors' rig.
Now it's turning 406,000.

I believe the 'J' in the VIN indicates the factory? I'm not positive, maybe someone can chime in.

Regarding mileage... I'm 100% convinced it's real. Specific indicators for me...

Here are some neat little original things...

Gas cap. I think these were painted body color from looking around at 1967 brochures. It certainly appears to be original paint. Do you agree?

Attachment 2350735

The floor mat is in excellent condition. This appears to be a GM part number.

Attachment 2350736

Definitely original belts.

Attachment 2350737

The doors were re-sprayed, but this mirror appears to have the original paint. Body color arms and black mirrors seems to be what I see in brochures? Let me know if that sounds right.

Attachment 2350738

Firewall chalk markings, I'm not an expert on these, but probably original?

This truck is PLAIN jane. Which I think is really cool.

Radio and cigar lighter deletes...

Attachment 2350740

Only 1 sunvisor??? I had not heard of that. Anyone know a second sunvisor was an option in 1967?

EDIT: This photo looks like there are screw holes. Those are dimples. Not drilled through.

Attachment 2350741

No arm rests... I didn't know those were optional either. I have seen only one exterior rear view mirror, but this one has both. Seems odd to me. Curious what you guys have seen.

Here are a few questions about things I can't figure out. Let me know what you guys think...

Chalk marks on the core support. Are these original? Or from an oil change or something random later in life? I have never seen these.

Attachment 2350743

This air cleaner looks really clean. Too clean. Do you think this is NOS? Aftermarket? Restored? From a different model vehicle? I don't know much about air cleaners, or if the sticker is the right type.

Attachment 2350744

Uncoated hood hinges and hood latches. It almost looks like they were sand blasted. However, I do see some indications from other truck photos that maybe these parts were just not coated from the factory? What have you guys seen?
