Just bought a 67 1/2 Ton Stepside!

Hey everyone,

I just bought a 1967 Chevy 1/2 ton stepside from Missouri and I am in the process of getting it shipped to me in Boston, MA. I've loved these trucks since my father had one when I was a kid and I finally got the chance to get one of my own.

I'm planning on painting the tailgate all black (I think) and then I just need to find some reverse lights for the truck before putting it on the road. Let me know what you think.

Here's a link to all the pictures, including pictures from an inspection I had done: http://andy.petelavelle.com/gallery/67Chevy

wow! Nice buy. I agree - black tail gate. Does it need any more work? Let's see some more pics! How does it look under the hood and inside? Wood bed or metal bed?

This is a sweet truck! I don't know the owner,... but I know the truck. VERY nice!!!! I have drooled over it for a long time. I saw that it was on e-bay,... just wondering what it went for. I think you will be happy with it.

Welcome to the board from South Mississippi! That is a sweet truck, you gotta love the stepside trucks!

Thanks guys. I didn't end up getting it on EBay because I never hit the reserve price. I had been talking back and forth with the seller since the auction started though, so we made a deal outside of EBay. The seller had the truck for 25 years and he sounded very sad to let it go.

Here, I painted your tailgate solid black for you....................

dinnut 05-29-2004 05:50 PM

damn! sweet 67 step you got there. i love it! good luck with it!

PLavelle 05-29-2004 06:34 PM

FrenchBlue, I think they are custom emblems on the front fender.

LongHair, painting that tailgate really makes the truck look a lot lower and the rims look a lot bigger!

Thanks for all of the compliments. I can't wait until I get her here. The truck should be picked up from the seller by Monday and then the shipping company has two weeks to get it to me.

That is a Wicked Step! Very Nice!

Nice truck. I've got the small window too. Great unless you change lanes a lot :) .

Randy70C-10 05-29-2004 11:25 PM

Wow, that's beautiful!! Black is awesome on a straight truck. Are you required to have reverse lights? We don't need them here, but if we have them they have to work.

do you think you could take some pics of your rear bumper brackets? i just got my bumper yesterday, identical to yours and i need to fabricate some brackets for it and just seeing your truck now i bet your brackets are what i need, so if you get a chance id love to see how it bolts up

thanks, DEREK

PLavelle 05-30-2004 02:54 AM

Derek, I'll take some pics of the brackets once the truck gets here (could be a couple weeks).

Nice ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PLavelle 07-11-2004 01:13 AM

Well, the truck finally came on Tuesday. Unfortunately it took about a month and a half for the shipping company to get it to me, but it was worth the wait. I haven't registered it yet so I've just been taking people for rides up and down my dead end street.

One thing I need to fix is that the shifter seems to slide in and out of different gears smoothly instead of clicking through each one (excuse my lack of knowledge on these things). It is pretty easy for it to slide into different gears which could be a problem. Is this something that is hard to fix???

juju, it has a wood bed...

obsesive23 07-11-2004 01:57 AM

Score!!!! nice ride .

Red69stepside 07-11-2004 10:38 AM

That's one fine head-turner

What a beautiful truck. I'd leave the letters painted. It's just the touch to make the rest of the black look great. Maybe a different color though: silver, gold?

Can you get me a closer up pic of your tach? I just bought a 69 step with a similar tach that sticks out of the dash like yours. But it's set up kind of cheesy, with a couple of wires running from it down the front of the dash, and the PO attached it to the column with a piece of HOSE CLAMP.

I got to get something better than that.

Can you tell us the mechanical specs...trany, engine...etc?

Congratulations.
