1980 Hydroboost pedal rod

I am replacing the booster on my 1980 C30. It is pretty straight forward, but the new booster did not come with the brake pedal rod installed. The rod in the old one does not seem to come out gently, if at all. Does anyone have advice they can pass on? I would sure appreciate it.

Those rods are a big topic of discussion...if your pulling a hydro always make sure to get the rod..
And even trading one in for a rebuilt one be sure to keep the rod...
Given enough time and material you do the math and measure and get close..

Looks like you have a rod though...itll come out with enough force...
Google how to remove hydroboost pushrod..theres tons of Info out thery

There's two styles. The older style secures the rod with a rubber grommet. These supposedly come out with a big jerk.

The later style is "staked." The metal that surrounds the rod is punched, or "staked" around the rod, holding it in place. These are not intended to be removed. Folks say they can be pulled out as well, but it takes a lot more force. Most folks fabricate a small puller to unseat the rod. Re-installing the rod is easy enough. It can be re-staked with a small punch.

You probably have the staked style.

The hydroboost I pulled from a '82 or '84(forget which) was staked. When installing a seal kit in that hydroboost, instead of removing and re-installing the rod, I cut and re-welded it.

Mine was the staked variety...I got it out with some effort...its like a Chinese finger trap...goes one way easy..not so much the other way
