While 99.9% of us here are every bit as much into the building as the showing part there is that group that doesn't or can't build who still wants a truck he can show for a period of time and expect to win a few trophies.
Anyone who did the Hagarty fantasy bid thing for several days can tell you that prices for the vehicles sold there were all over the place and at times didn't make much sense.
And at BJ Scottsdale you can more than bet that the level of alcohol consumption and wanting to be the hotshot that outbids the other hotshot has a lot to do with some of the crazy prices that some rigs bring. You can bet that both of those trucks mentioned will make the rounds of the indoor shows and the Goodguys events for the year and then be up for sale again in the fall.

Re: $143,000 truck

This thread reminded me of an earlier BJ auction and a 70 Chevelle that fetched 1.2 million. The car recently re-sold for a million less. A Google search gave me the details I couldn't remember. the search led me to a thread over at Chevelles.com......copy and paste.....

After all of the talk around here lately about rare LS-6 convetibles. I noted something very interesting, while reading thru my freinds latest edition of Hot Rod magazine.

Hot Rod Magazine, February 2010 Edition:

Quote from page 61; "The item most folks expected to draw top dollar brought just 20 percent of the $1.2 million Ralph paid in 2006. Tonny Sorensen of the Von Dutch clothing line is the latest owner of Ray Allen's A/Stocker. He forked over $240,000 (plus 10 percent)-then put the top down and drove the rare 454 Chevelle to its new home in SoCal. He told us he plans to remove the graphics and drive the 61-original-mile (no joke) car regularly".

I'm with you. It's almost equivalent to (although maybe a little less extreme) buying aircraft engines from Al Qaeda and putting them in Boeing aircraft today.

A German engine in a post war truck...... sheesh. If German engineering were so great that truck would BE a Mercedes and not a Chevrolet.

Mercedes truck made me throw up in my mouth a little. ok since a couple already said this...its a bit tacky. im sure they had a wrecked benz and used the parts, if they had a kia, it might have been mixed with that.

They did start with a wrecked Benz. I talked to the owner when it was at the Brothers show. They also had to sign paper work saying it would be registered as a chevy truck and not a Mercedes Benz.

Although its not in my price range the 143,000.00 is not all the far off the mark if you had a "pro" shop build it for you, might even be some what of a deal considiering the labor rates now days.....
some of the stuff on BJ blows me away as I could not build that stuff for what it sells for and my labor is way cheap !!!!!!

you can bet money anyone at BJ selling a big dollar vehicle or build has "people" in the audience to "protect" it and keep it from selling for peanuts... looks like a crap shoot but looks can be deceiving....

I would like to know who has that kind of money for a truck,
and where can I get a job like that.
Does any one like to go into the custom truck building business.
that must be some profit.

You're absolutely correct. The cars/trucks we see selling in the 100K+ range are pretty much perfect in every way. We may not like the color or wheel choice but the craftsmanship is top shelf.

With a top line shop charging $75.00 (or more) an hour, you'll find yourself north of 150K in a hurry.

Oh I think if I had a 100,000 dollar budget I could come up with something really cool. I know some would not like it, but I could come up with something that would knock my socks off. Well at least until I get bored with it, then I would need another 100,000.lol

I'm not saying that to be arrogant. A lot guys on here are building very cool trucks on a a shoe string budget so I would hate to see what they could with a 100,000. All I'm saying is that's a lot of cheese to build a car.

That benz truck sold for 87,000 on BJ. I will not comment just letting it be known.
