1950 Chevy rear mounted fuel tank
 

Ok guys. I know there are many options for the rear frame rail mounted Top fill tanks, but what we are looking for on this truck is a rear fill. Like out of the license plate area. Like the 2nd Gen Camaros kinda. Might need to go custom build. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe the 65 Chevelle would be the ticket.

I ran a 65 Nova in my truck for years. Put the fuel filler up in the fender.

You have to hang the tank pretty low to make a true rear fill work right. I tried it once 20 years ago and decided that at least with the tank I had it wouldn't work right. The tank was going to have to be too low to get the filer to clear the back of the back bed crosspiece without cutting it up and making big mods to it.

On my truck now, I'm running an NOS 47-48 frame mounted tank that I got on ebay cheap!

I used a tank from a 69 chevelle,it is a bit larger at 22 gal. Also used the factory tank brackets,and sender as well. To get my gage to work i install a resistor pot in series with the sender and gage ,then just turned the dial until the ohm reading matched the original sending unit. The only thing i had to do to the tank was shorten the neck, worked out great and i found the tank matched the slope of the rear fenders.

I don't have any other photos (predigital here) but this is my truck with the Nova tank, it fit between the rails all the way up at the top and was unseen with no rolled pan and the stock bumper. And yes I was driving this truck as you see it in the photos.....it had a mid engine. :D

The tank having to hang so low below the back of the truck is exactly why I decided not to run a similar one. That would be a personal choice if you don't mind the tank hanging down where everyone behind you sees it and don't worry about gas spilling out when the tank is full when you park aimed uphill a bit if you run a vented cap. I remember that all too well on some car I had 30 years ago. It would be best to run a non vented cap and either vent the tank though a charcoal filter under the hood or a tube running up in one of the stake pockets high enough so that you didn't worry about spills.

No problem,also if you're worried about the tank hanging to low,mine is higher than my rear end by 2" at its lowest point, and even with my running boards,so its not an issue.And if you not a fan of other drivers seeing the tank from behind then install a rear bumper,again personally not a issue for me, a lot of rides you can see the tank, even on the 69 chevelle (it is what it is).The only problem you might come across is getting your exhaust out the back,mine i stopped just short of the axial.

This is a 67 68 Camaro Firebird tank. As you can see its up high and can do a side fill or a rear fill.
