New clutch doesn't work

I blew up my clutch in my '68 c10 this summer (kuz I got a lead foot:lol:)
I let it set around and finally got around to putting a clutch in it this week.
Put a Rhino pac diaphragm style, stock clutch in it. hooked everything up and the clutch just isn't there. almost no resistance, pedal goes right to the floor.
Can't adjust it any further. Something is definitely wrong.
everything seems to be installed properly. This is about my 20th clutch swap (not all on the same truck), first major problem I've ever had.
Any guesses? Thoughts,
I'm about to go back out there and re-remove the engine and take a closer look.
Pretty simple unit, I can't imagine what I might be missing.
Has to be one of three things
1: Wrong clutch kit
2: Defective parts
3: Improper installation

Wrong throw out bearing!
Is it a flat or raised finger pressure plate?

I would think crawling back under there and proper visual inspection of throw-out bearing, clutch arm, and linkages will show you where it doesnt work.

I an leaning toward this. My buddy, Randy is going to come have a look before I tear it apart again. He has worked in transmission shops for 40 odd years. He also suspects a short throw out bearing where there should be a long one.

1. There are 3 different height throwout bearings for diaphragm style chevy clutches.

2. A common error is to install the fork incorrectly...

see this link as it shows it all in one post...

Update:

I was sippin' on beer , cleaning up the shop this weekend :barn:, just staring down my truck:mrt:, one thing let to another and I started ripping it back apart. I don't normally turn wrenches while intoxicated, but I was PO'ed and annoyed, so I did.
I tore the linkage apart, inspected it, with one eye closed, so I could focus. In my enhanced state, I couldn't find anything wrong with the apparatus.
It dawned on me that I was in no condition to R&R a clutch, so I did the only sensible thing; I drank a couple more beers and proceed to reassemble the clutch linkage.
That's where it gets weird.
I slammed the whole thing back together, using the exact same parts, and it worked perfectly. WTF?
I have no idea how or why. I was careful and SOBER when I first put it together, I was basically $#!tfaced when I reassembled it this time.
All I did was disassemble then reassemble the linkage.
Granted, being a 50 year old truck, the linkage is rather sloppy, but it works as well I have ever seen.
I have gone back over that thing multiple times (while sober), I have NO IDEA why it didn't work the first time, nor am I sure what changed to make it work now.

Re: New clutch doesn't work

Maybe you had it installed with the rod in the outer hole of the fork and reassembled it with it in the inner hole. The pedal spring will give enough tension to fake you out a bit. Possibly!

Drinking and wrenching is a sport for me! :smoke:

Beer makes you smart ...It made Bud weiser

My friend and I were at the local pub drinking the other night. I looked over and said, "Hey man, look at those two old drunk bas-ards over there. That'll be us in a few more years". He glanced over, looked at me and said "You drunk idiot, that's a mirror!"

A man walks into a bar and up to the counter. The bartender asks him, "what can I get for you today." The man replies, "I'll take three glasses of your most rare bourbon barrel aged russian imperial stout." As fast as the bartender was pouring the man was downing the beers even faster one after another. Stunned the bartender asks, "I've never seen anyone drink that fast before." "You'd drink that fast if you had what I had," said the man. "What do you have," asks the bartender. Turning around the man replies, "fifty cents."

:haha:
