Project Simple Green - Lucille - 1967 C10 Porterbuilt/AccuAir

Time to get caught up (well somewhat at least). This will be an on-going effort to get to "current", but hopefully somewhere along the way I can share some things that help others.

Thanks to all of you on this site for your inspiration, information, and entertainment. I'm just lucky to be a part of such a cool group. Also thanks to our vendors such as Porterbuilt and AccuAir who have, through the way they have treated me, provided 100% confirmation that I bought the right parts from the right people.

Why Project "Simple Green"? It's Medium Green and staying that way, to put it simply. The plan has always been to keep the time capsule intact, go as low as I can with factory everything, keep it simple. It's my first build, don't get in over my head, simple is the recipe.

Why name the truck "Lucille"? She's Medium GREEN, I found her in Clover, SC and, well, everyone else used "Lucy" or "Lucky". Makes sense that a LWB shouldn't get the abbreviated name, so we'll go formal with her. Lucille is a shout-out to my late grandmother as well, she deserves to be honored.

STARTING POINT:
numbers matching (283, Muncie 3-Speed on Column), straight body, limited non-structural rust in easy-to-fix places

It ran when I got it, smoked like a freight train, but ran nonetheless. Previous owner had put a new gas tank in it and then rebuilt the 2-barrel for me for an extra $100 when i bought it (quite laughable now that the 2-barrel is in the scrap bin, but that $100 is what allowed me to get it on the trailer and in my garage under it's own smokey power, so I'll say it was worth it). I said time-capsule earlier, and that couldn't be more accurate. Original seat cover (trashed bottom but nice back actually), cigarette lighter still there, 92k on the odometer, 1983 Georgia Inspection Sticker frosted forever into the windshield, triple OG gun rack, GM stickers still perfect on the doors, one farm mirror and one regular, steel bed in fine shape, tailgate still works, completely bone stock everything under the hood, doors shut and latch effortlessly. Fair starting spot.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I like how you called your 2013 Platinum the "Beater" LS Nasty! I've got a 13 Limited that sits beside the C10 in the garage. I've always thought there were plenty of C10ers around Charlotte, good to hear from you, need to cruise these things!

Here is some GA love for ya GAc10boy:

Thought this was really cool to see when I had the truck in half. "878" is marked on the underside of the hood (top drivers corner) and the front side of the bed. Can someone shed some light on what the significance of this is? Figure it's just assembly notes. Confirms some originality I'd say, pretty cool nonetheless.

Hey man what can I say,I just go ahead and take care for the Ford jokes before anyone can do it! I all but went to Charlotte the other weekend to pick up a set of Limited 22's... still think I should have done it. I'd love nothing more than to meet up with a bunch of people and cruise but I've got a lonnnnnng road to hoe with mine. One day though.

Cool looking project. Have a very similar kit sitting in my garage, but bet you have yours up and running well before mine.

Well I sandbagged on getting the build thread up, so yeah, I beat ya slowcpe. Hopefully some of what I'm going to post will help you.

I got my truck over to my buddy's shop to get it "road worthy". You all know how this part of the story goes...

At my buddy's shop, bed full of 1000#s of miscellanous $hit from a move I was going through. Too sweet of a view not to capture. Old Skool in the Old Skool Shop.

1.25" Spacers getting the trackwidth equal to the front and correct in the fender. Also allows you to clear the larger rear hub with the hub opening of the Transit 22s. Mine are G2 Gear & Axle and I got them from Summit. Couldn't be happier. Except i have different lug nuts on the front and rear (no biggie since they're behind '52 caps).

Are those Detroit Steel wheels? My '69 is 6 lug and I am having a hell of a time finding wheels for it. Not sure I want to stick with the rally's. What are the specs on the wheels if you don't mind sharing?

Thanks, looks great!

sixSEVENcTEN 12-05-2014 12:09 PM

Re: Project Simple Green - Lucille - 1967 C10 Porterbuilt/AccuAir

Thanks Jayschevy! More NC C10 love!

Malamute: The wheels are GM Transit 22s, steel. 22x9. 6x5.5, just like my '67 and your '69. I'll shoot you a PM on more info.

Out with the Old, in with the Rebuilt Old.

#s matching 283, 2-barrel. Never apart from what we could tell.

She had a lobe essentially ground off the cam, one rocker arm completely rotated 90 degrees and not touching the rod, and some decent wear of a couple cylinder walls. But RAN. Testament to what things used to be I'd say.

http://i1251.photobucket.com/albums/...ps437aa35e.jpg

Key Parts:
Comp Cams "Thumper" Cam
Keith Black Pistons (0.060 over)
Edelbrock Intake
Holley 4-Barrel (600 or 650 cfm, can't remember off the top of my head)
Hedman Mid-Length Headers (fit horribly, sound great and have a killer old school look)
*can get specifics for anyone that wants to know more
