Green Bean ?

Hey everyone, well the last thing I need in life is another Project but here we go again. I recently bought this 1971 C20. Its very similar to my very first C10 from 30 years agp when I first began to drive. I have a little bit of an idea where I a going with it, I wont be painting anyhing lol. Other than rockers and cab corners its staying the same. I am 100% changing it to a 1/2 ton 5 lug. T.P.
P.S she'll buff. lol Attachment 2251315 Attachment 2251316 Attachment 2251317 |

Little progress with my Son. I helped him pull the engine and transmission out. He did every bolt except one. And we got the front crossmember swapped out with a 73 5 lug unit.

These last few weekends have been an absolute blast with my little guy. Very eager to learn hard worker and just gets after it No complaining about bolts or how heavy something is. He just figures it out. He tried his hand and buffing and for the most part even at 9 he can handle the Makita for a few hours. We are only fixing the rust hole areas and then leaving the rest. (not my cup of tea) but its what he wants.

Re: Green Bean ?
We are currently 5 lug swapped in the front and 6 in the rear. lol. we just could not find a 5 lug rear end anywhere close to us. We are thinking of doing a CPP kit and just swapping axles. However he wants fat steel wheels with center caps so we may just leave it as is for now. Hard to find 8 inch wheels in the rear with the right offset. If any one has any suggestions that would be awesome ...Thanks Tony and Layne

Smallish Update, Had my daughter out in the barn this weekend. She did a great job, Hard cut followed by a polish and some butter wax...Shines good enough for me/my son. Rockers and Cab corners are next and we will try to match the paint.

Some shop shuffling going on. We got the wheels mocked up and the front of the chassis painted. Me and the boy are planning to get the engine in and mocked up this weekend. Hard to make time with full time job/school and 3 other projects going on. :waah:

Re: Green Bean ?
Love the color on the other "project". Do you have a build thread on that truck?

Pretty cool find, I asked the gentleman today if he had any photos of Green Bean when her first bought her. We was lucky enough that he shared this one with us.

Re: Green Bean ?
After checking out the sweet pea thread, your opening comments about not doing much to this one make a lot more sense! that's a beautiful color, btw, it really pops
Super cool that your kids have taken an interest, too. |

Well I was really trying to keep this thing simple but after much thought, it will be easier to get the rockers floor and cab supports repaired if I am not fighting the frame and space restrictions .

Little work today. We got the cab off and are ready to start the rust repair. The frame cleaned below the cab prepped and painted. Slowly she's coming along.

Re: Green Bean ?
That’s the smart way and I’m sure you’re son will never sell it

Re: Green Bean ?
Looking great so far! Going those few extra steps like taking the cab off really is worth it in the end. I've had the bed on and off several times during the build phase. Sometimes it gets thrown back on just to clear up some work space, and sometimes just for some motivation.

Well not much action on Green Bean however, after moving around the cab on the previous cart it came pretty obvious that it was sketchy at best. So with the help of my wife and daughter we made a new and improved version. We should be starting some cab repair in the next few days.

Little Thursday night after work special ,upper firewall area rust repaired and body worked and primed. Me and the daughter and son had about 2 hours to kill so we Body worked the upper firewall area. Hopefully we can knock out the lower this weekend and get some color on it.

Having a hard time uploading pictures.??? However quick updates. Rockers and Cab corners are replaced, floor sections repaired, cab mounts . One side is painted and I tried my hand at (faux patina). Pretty hard to try and do. All day everyday I try to lay out some slick paint work and fabrication work. IT s curve ball trying to make something look old and not slick as glass lol. However I pushed on. Also Started cutting down the bed side(s). it will be a challenge as well to make that look untouched and factory appearing. (patina).
