LMC carpet sux big time!!!!!!

I cant belive this crap, I finally get 3days off work and looking forward to putting my truck back together. I get the carpet all streched out in the truck and there is 6"x4" section gone on each side where the carpet should set on the little shelf in the back of the cab.

After cooling off a little while I go get the carpet kick panels and they are no where close to fitting. Who do they have up there laying out this crap. I thought that LMC was supposed to a top notch company?

Does anyone know a good company to get molded carpet from? This junk LMC sent me is going back.

swervin ervin 04-20-2003 05:50 PM

Cole,

I bought mine from JC Whitney. No problem and fit like a glove. I bought the full coverage carpet even though at the time I still had the bench seat.

swervin ervin 04-20-2003 05:51 PM

Oh, and LMC might supposed to be a top notch company, but I don't see it. There is plenty about LMC I don't like. Don't get me started. :)

jeffspower 04-20-2003 08:10 PM

Yep. Some LMC stuff is crap, some good. Worst stuff I seen from them was S-10 doorpanels. Looked nice- thin & brittle as hell. Put a pair of their window regulators in a '70. 2 years later the truck came back thru my shop for other problems, & quess what- both the regulators are completely stripped out! I used their window channel & everything.

I have been in their showroom in Lenexa, Ks. before. Expected a lot on display & a big showroom. Hardly nothing!!!

Who sells a GOOD pair of regulators for 67-72? - Jeff

Guess I'll be buying from JC Whitney too. :p

MSL 04-21-2003 04:36 AM

Man i have a LMC catalog but im about to toss it since i keep reading so much stuff about them. im waiting on my jc whittney catalog i just got the chevyduty one. how good is that company.

Cole's 87 04-21-2003 10:03 AM

Well I just talked to LMC as soon as I said return. The lady cut me off in mid sentence and said that the return policy was on the back of the shipping invoice. Soooo I cut her back off saying I know how to read. My question before I was interupted was ,how long before you credit my M/C . 10-12 workig days was the answer. I will say that my carpet was my first dealing with LMC after this mornings call. It will be my last. When are people going to learn CUSTOMER SERVICE is one of the key things to keeping you in bussiness.

I am glad I saw this thread. I was getting ready to purchase carpet too.

I bought a vent window form LMC a long time ago and it is a POS too. The lever wont stay on and the rubber sticks to the window when I open it. I payed too much for it too, but that was my fault.

Any dealings with Tuckers anybody?

old Rusty C10 04-21-2003 12:59 PM

im a cheap SOB that being said after comparing several items in all the catalogues i have including year one LMC Chevy Duty and a couple of othrs i find Chevy Duty to be the cheapest and alot of people i know on hear swear by em so id try them next
Whitney is a good company but they inundate ya with crap after ya order worse than if ya just request a catalogue

CHaingKaiShek 04-21-2003 06:39 PM

I thought LMC carpet kits came from ACCmats. I however have never ordered one from LMC truck, I did however order from ACC. www.accmats.com - and the price was well worth the product. Needed very little trimming and fit like a glove.

I guess LMC gets their mats from someone else, maybe it was summit who uses Accmats.

i have ordered carpet and rubber mats from JC Whitney as well, no problem with fit. Their door panels are good too. Good luck!

No, but I can add my opinion about LMC.
They pretty much suck as far as quality products.
Stay away from anything cosmetic or extrememly important to proper working order of your truck. That eliminates just about everything :)

BigAlVB 04-24-2003 07:08 AM

I ordered all new weatherstripping for my 1991 Sub and the back door pieces didn't fit--not even close. The little guide pins wouldn't line up, I even took it to a body shop. They did refund my money quickly, though.
I ended up getting all my weatherstripping from another supplier that makes it and it worked beautifully!
Just to make it clear: I am referring to LMC Truck about the suck quality weatherstrip!

Mike:

Which carpet set did you get from JC Whitney? They have some from NPI ( Niffty Products Inc.), Ohio Auto Mat, and another brand that just list as "Custom-Tailored Carpeting. Also which is best, the moulded carpet or just the full coverage one?

Also did you also buy the door bottom carpet too? If so does it have the aluminium trim?

Thanks

J-Spec C10 04-24-2003 04:06 PM

My Nifty Products carpet fits really nice, and it has a nice heel area too.

swervin ervin 04-24-2003 05:49 PM

Mitch,

my carpet is by Nifty Products. I did get the carpet door bottoms, but they don't have any aluminum trim on them though.

I would go with the full coverage molded carpet, which I did. :)

Thanks!

There is some good info here. I am gonna relocate this one to the review board. :)

I'll tell you guys an experience I had once. Here's a phone conversation I had with a sales woman at LMC over some stuff I wanted to order:

"Hi, I'd like to order some stuff", I said.

"Ok, what catalog do you have?", she asked.

"Catalog [blah blah blah]"

"Ok, give me the part numbers you want to order.", she said.

"Ok, it's [blah blah]", I said.

"The [insert item here]?", she asked.

"Yes, but I have a question about the item.", I asked.

"Ok"

"Well, I want to make sure that this fits [something specific to my year of truck] and [is of a specific quality] before I order it. The catalog isn't specific.", I asked.

"I don't have that information. I only see what's in the catalog.", she responded.

"Well, can you find out? Can you ask someone?", I asked a little irritated already.

"I can have a technical specialist call you back within 24-48 hours that can answer your question."

"What? You're kidding, right? You can't transfer me to the technical people right now?", I asked.

"No. You can leave your question with me and I'll have the technical specialist call you back within 24-48 hours.", she said again.

"I'm not going to spend [insert large amount of $ here] unless I have some details about the item I'm ordering, so since you're not willing to help me find out the info I need you're basically not interested in taking my order?", I asked her.

...and here's the kicker:

"Sir, I can take your order right now just fine. A technical specialist can call you back in 24-48 hours to help you out with your specific question.", she responded.

"So you're assuming that I'll order the item, and then hope that the 'technical specialist' can answer my question to my satisfaction, meaning I'd be happy with the purchase I already made? What happens if he [the tech. specialist] can't answer my question, or tells me something I don't like? I'll have to return the item first, which will take several days, and then wait for the 10-12 days after that for a refund?", I asked frustratred as hell.

"You could do that.", she said.

"Forget it. Thanks anyway. I'll take my business somewhere else."

---

By the next hour I had another vendor that could answer my questions over the phone, let me order it at 30% less, and it was at my door FASTER.

Billy G 05-22-2003 12:04 AM

Ive had several LMC catalogs for my 76 Chev. All I've ever used them for was PROPER part ID when I went to AUTOZONE or the Salvage Yard....hahaha
Making NOTE of this!!!!!!!

MikeB 05-27-2003 12:29 PM

The problem with LMC is they are big company that sells products for lots of different cars and trucks. You will never see them build project trucks or develop their own parts like Early Classic Enterprises or Brothers. To them, parts is parts.

They are obviously not in touch with the enthusiast marketplace, or they would not be trying to sell Edelbrock and Holley parts for 2-3 times as much as Summit or Jegs.

nroden 06-02-2003 11:05 AM

Yeah. I don't like LMC much even though they do sponsor my truck club I believe. So do Chevy Duty, Jim Carter, and Ron Manes which I all like.

I did get the majority of my stuff from GMCPaul www.gmcpauls.com
and he has helped me even when I wasn't buying something.
