$143,000 truck

Did anyone see the 55 second series go for $143,000 at Barret Jackson?
It was a nice looking truck but man that's a lot of cash for one.

I was told a frame off 57 went for 15K. So was the 55 a custom?
Are there any pictures of it?

Okay here is a custom that I think is pretty good.

Look under the "Thursday" cars for Scottsdale 2011. Darn good looking truck but man that's a lot of money. But, no way you could build it (not touching it yourself) for that number. I guess there were a couple folks wanting it. LOL.

Yes...beautiful truck, but I think one could be built for a ton less and look just as good. Look at some o f the trucks on here for instance.

Re: $143,000 truck

It was a nice truck but that is just stupid money to pay for something like that.
Not even a big window or a true 55. Using 58-59 front sheet metal and 57 emblems just makes it a confused truck.;)

Re: $143,000 truck

BJ= rip off in my opinion. Most of those cars would NEVER bring that kind of money anywhere. And it gets worse yearly in my opinion. I don't get how they do it. Its dumbfounds me.

Didn't one of them get caught driving the prices up on his own cars? Seems to me i read that somewhere.

Re: $143,000 truck

i think they got caught buying vehicles at a quick price then reselling them at future auctions.

Re: $143,000 truck

It won "Best 4wd" at the Brothers show and it isn't even a 4wd. It's an all wheel drive,as different as front wheel drive and rear wheel drive in my book. What a rip off for all the other beautiful 4wds that entered the show.
We all have our opinions, but I don't really like it. It lacks everything I like in an early Chevy truck. Why put all that modern technology in it? Is the owner really going to use it like a modern vehicle? They say it's actually a Mercedes SUV with '55 Chevy truck sheetmetal. I guess it's the coolest Mercedes I've seen, since I'm a Chevy truck lover. But,for all that money I'd rather have a stupid high horsepower all American ground pounder of my own design,or at least input.

My dad was a used car dealer 30 years ago when I was young and he would get a car in that would set on the lot for a while. I would tease him that roots were going to grow out of the car and he was never going to sell it. He told me something I have never forgotten. He said son there is an ass for every seat! That may hold true for BJ on some of these vehicles.

Re: $143,000 truck

I watched it sell last night. They say it only takes 2 to drive up and price, and in this case there were still 3 bidders when it was over $100,000.

Real nice, well done truck. I was surprised to see it sell over $100,000 though.

Re: $143,000 truck

Bruceman is right. I saw the Mercedes truck at Brothers. It was very nicely done but not something I would do myself.
The Barret Jackson truck is very nice but I think it could be done for a lot less than $143,00.

Re: $143,000 truck

I saw the 143 truck sell last night and the guy that bought it sure was happy.
If that mercedes truck was skined around a new chevy truck that would be cool IMHO.
Tim I agree that a 4WD truck should have 2 solid axels. Those other 4WD guys in that class must of been miffed to say the least.

I'll sell my truck for 143K!

Glorybound13 01-21-2011 12:42 PM

Re: $143,000 truck

If that truck is worth $143K, then the truck one of the other forum member's built (Second Chance '67 Chevrolet - Steinbrecker built it I believe.. I could be wrong) should go for $200K there. I think he sold it at the BJ in California and it's coming back on the block by the newest owner in Scottsdale. I guess BJ is double dipping on one truck (or quadruple dipping if you count the buyer and seller fees)!

Re: $143,000 truck

I'm a truck guy but for me to spend 143K at an auction, it had better be going towards an original pristine '70 SS 454 Chevelle. I'll take that in dark blue with white SS stripes please. Oh, 4 speed too if you don't mind.

I talked to a guy last weekend that's looking for a 68-69 Chevelle body. Told him with BJ coming up he had better find one quick. Every clown on Craig's List will automatically think his rust bucket is worth north of a 100k.

That is the one thing that gets my goat, most people with that rust bucket don't know what it takes to become a BJ auto. The first thing they say is "a little work and you can sell it for X amount just like they do on TV" I just walk away shaking my head.

Holy smokes! Tack on the commision and that thing was $157,300. No way I'd spend that amount of cash on something like that. Is the frame made of Titanium? haha. Don't get me wrong its a very nice truck and I'm sure the fit and finish is perfect, but really? 150k? Does anybody have any info on the suspension? I'd love to see what guys on this website could do with $150k to a truck like this.

I hear ya. Two phrases that turn me away, "All ya gotta do is......." and "It will be easy for you to get a title".

Haha! I love that second one!

I know someone that called BJ to sell a couple of cars that he had rebuilt and some that he just kept in beautiful condition. He had pictures and documentation on all of them, everything was ready to go. BJ didn't even want to see the pics once he told them that he had re-done them himself...

Kinda sad to hear that. They must only buy cars from people who have had their cars re-done buy certain shops.

I would still love to go down to one. It would be a pretty good car show aside from the entry fee...

Anyone ever been to one? Or know how much the entry fee is? I know that the entry fee doesn't allow you to be by auction block. Just wondering how much it would be to look at the cars.

Re: $143,000 truck

I think I heard last year or the year before that the daily rate to get in was like $25, but that doesn't get you to the auction block floor. You can put up the $100 or $200 it takes to get a bidder's pass, and you can get down there (not close to the front of course - your closeness to the stage depends on how much you're financed for I believe). It used to be that if you didn't buy anything, you would get your bidder pass money back. Scottsdale would be awesome to go to. The other auctions have much fewer cars / variety.

To each his own, but that mercedes "chevy" makes me cringe.
