Hidden stereo options
 

I want to install a sound system in my 65 C10 but I want to keep the "stock" look. I do not want anything to show, I know this means it probably won't sound great. I found this amplified IPOD controller from Kicker called a PXi50.2 and I wondered if anyone has installed one. Also does anyone have suggestions of a under seat box or speaker set ups that would fit.

Looks like you can hook it up to an amp too, so you should get some pretty high quality sound out of it

Here is what I did for my 71 c20 burb. I wanted to keep stock dash/radio. I found a new/used Kenwood head unit for $50 on CL w/ AUX input (this is key- usb connection will not typically allow volume control from Iphone 5). I found a Dash Kit shroud on Amazon for $15. I am running a 6' AUX behind dash-under carpet and up to center console. I can control all music and volume with just my phone.

Can you control the radio and cd from the phone? or just the music that is on your phone?

I can only control the music I have stored on my smart phone, but I use Pandora & Spotify App's on my phone for radio affect. I cannot control FM tuner or CD's with my smart iphone. Smart phones/iTunes/apps/ can make CD's & am/fm tuner obsolete. I even have an AM/FM tuner app I downloaded on my iphone- so technically I can control AM/FM with the phone- just not through the stereo head unit.

Bringing back an old thread. I'm thinking of doing something very similar. Hidden deck in glove box, and using my phone or mounting a small interface somewhere on the dash, something like this:

Depends if you want radio or not. If you want radio, the most practical way is with a deck in the glove box. If not, there are a myriad of Bluetooth controllers from many Powersports audio brands (MTX, Wetsounds, Kicker, etc) or online options like you have found. I am actually going to keep the stock radio, with original deck which is in working condition. My hidden system will be separate. That product from Wetsounds looks stellar. I'm going to look into it for sure. Thanks!

The amp is tiny at just 7 inches, supports two speakers for a total of 100 watts at 2 ohms.

Best of all the remote can be hidden easily to keep a stock look. Just a little pricey...

The Kicker is a decent piece as well. It looks a little pricey because it comes with the amplifier. A nice plus is that it has an input on it so you could run the factory radio as a line-in which simplifies the system.

The only negative, for me anyway, is that your Bluetooth controller and amplifier are now tied together which limits your options should you want to expand your system in the future.

It will allows me to hide everything, and keep my truck looking stock. I'm searching for shallow speakers that will fit into kick panels without any spacers. So far Polk, Kicker, and Rockford Fosgate have speakers that are thin enough to fit. The folks at Crutchfield were extremely helpful.
