bought my first wood floor from chevy duty (pine) was really nice. got the stainless bolt kit for the entire bed from LMC. had plenty of bolt (etc) to do the job. the second time i had my wood floor made locally using a chart GMCPaul has on his web site.

I used marine grade plywood(no voids)and treated it with a sealer. Cheaper in the long run and more durable IMO. 2 sheets 90.00 each and about 30.00 in harware. Total $220.00

Yeah i saw a pikcup at a car show witha plywood bed and some car body trim spaced about 8 inches apart with some rubber stuff and it looked really nice and kept his wood from getting scratched. i think i will do that. any other ideas? thanks ben

67fleetside....why did you need two sheets? whats a void? and did you just leave it plain in the middle or did you like put a strip or something and did you put all the bolts it or just around the edges and stuff? do you have any pictures? that sounds like a cheap way that would look really nice. thanks, Ben

Ben, 2 sheets are needed. The sheets are not quite long enough to go from the front to the back laying them long ways. So I positioned them cross ways with the wood going left to right.
Voids are the gaps left in the wood by the flaws during processing. If you look at the edge of the lowest quality plywood, you will see places where wood is missing. These holes hold moisture. The moisture causes the wood to mold and break down quickly (i.e. ply’s coming apart) it also allows the moisture to break the glue down. These are the main problems when using low-grade wood. Marine grade plywood is the best you can get as far as plywood. It has very little to zero flaws in the ply’s.
I left mine plain. You can put a plate or something to cover up the gap. It doesn't bother me.
I placed bolts all the way around the out side and then placed two strips of bolts in the middle. I was more concerned about it rattling and the fit to the frame. My main goal was durability and functionality not looks. Before I put the wood in the bed I coated each sheet several times with Thompson super water seal. It is latex based and it also extends the life of the wood.
I do not have a digital camera. So therefore I do not have any pictures. Sorry.
I went this route because I didn’t want spend $300+ on the kit and then be afraid to put anything in the bed. I have a Pontiac 400 big block in the bed right now. If I had the original wood bed, it wouldn’t have anything in the bed so therefore the whole purpose of the truck is lost.

Good luck

I'm using Chevy Duty pine wood kit and strips. went with plain steel and then painted to match the truck (would post pics, but need to move to free pic site.) then used a Bruce Horkey finishing kit. Shine is great and its been standing up well for the first year.

try to get stainless bolts when you can even though they are a little higher. well worth the extra bucks.

Blue72, Is that a show truck? Do you think you will ever put anything in the bed? If I had that kit in the bed of my truck, I would be afraid to put anything in there because of the fear of scratches.
I like my marine ply wood bed. Low maintenance and tough.

It wasn't going to be when is start the restore, but it turn out that way. The only thing going in the back is some blankets to sit on at events, and the NOS bottle. I have a 96 chevy pickup and a 88 chevy van to do work with.
