Re: Project Patina Burb

Went to the junkyard today and picked up a Windstar dual fan setup, a washer bottle and bracket, and a horn. Only cost about $35. I have to do some modification to get the windstar fan to work, but I think I can get it to spin.

Re: Project Patina Burb

Knocked a few more things off the punch list.

-Finished running my backup lights wiring.
-Cleaned and Installed my Gauge Cluster
-Finalized my tilt column and bolted it the rest of the way in
-Utilized the factory oil pressure line and connected it to the Autometer brass line and ran it down to the oil pan. Still have to drill and tap it though.
-Installed my Windstar dual electric fan. I just used 6 of those Hayden zip tie lines. It isn't going anywhere.

Thanks to thelonerife(Chuck) for giving me that original oil pressure line at his swap meet booth at Goodguys this weekend. It worked great.

Ahhh more updates without pictures!!!! Whats the deal Bryan?? lol I'm glad you got some stuff done sir

Re: Project Patina Burb

Okay, a few more things done. I put some silicone around the truck tail lights that Rusbuilt put in back in March. Couldn't do it from the inside, so I did it from the outside. Hopefully, it won't effect the lenses going on.

The main thing I did was to drill and tap a piece on the side of the oil pan so I could use the factory oil pressure gauge.

Here's the original piece.

Originally there was this hole was closed off, but I drilled it out and tapped it.

Here it is back on the pan.

http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps4ba9d329.jpg

and with the brass line on it.

Here's a few pics of what I did last night so Russ doesn't make me feel guilty.

Ford Windstar dual fan

http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps6a14ca96.jpg

Gauge Cluster in and the steering column with new steering wheel on.

Couldn't get the horn cap on for some reason. It would only go so far down and kept falling out. I'll have to figure out how to put it on later.

Picked up an old metal cooler from a buddy today for FREE. I'll paint it the same blue as the burb and sit it behind the third row seat.

Nice cooler Bryan. Just caught up on this thread. We need to have a fire it up party!

Chuck, it's getting very close.

About the cooler, I think I've changed my mind on it. I think I'm going to get a Mountain Dew decal and slap it on there and make it look weathered.

Anyway, she's on her way to get the 5.3 wired up and running at a guy's shop that has my harness and computer. He's wired it and programmed the computer and will get it running for me. Couldn't beat the price.

If I remember correct from reading earlier, you have plates and cups in the front. The bottom cup was cut down to 5/8"? And drop spindles? What's done to the back? Seems to sit pretty low. I like it!

Re: Project Patina Burb

Still finishing up the wiring harness. It's almost complete.

I did buy a set of 67 only white and orange dog dish caps for it this week from Rusbuilt. Still haven't decided on wheels yet. I know they will be steel, but haven't decided if I'm going to go with the 20 inch Mobsteel wheels or just factory 15's. I'm going to incorporate the caps in either way.

5150 06-25-2013 11:50 PM

Re: Project Patina Burb

I'd like to see if they make 17 inch steelies.

cubber 06-26-2013 12:45 AM

Re: Project Patina Burb

The ones I run are 17's, but they aren't smooth like a rallye wheel. I think Wheel Vintiques has 17" steelies that don't have the holes in them like mine do.

Re: Project Patina Burb

I forgot about yours Matt. What are they off of?

cubber 06-26-2013 01:00 AM

Re: Project Patina Burb

They are Cragar Soft 8's. I got mine at Summit, they were like $90 apiece. They are available in black, silver, or chrome. Mine are 17x8 with 4.5" backspace. They tuck perfectly, and clear the a arms with drop spindles. I got some Chinese tires from ebay for like $375, delivered. The Cragar caps look kinda goofy, but I have those 88-98 caps, and if I had known they would have worked when I was getting it all together, I would have looked at astro van caps. There are some cool ones of those. Only problem is there is nothing for a dog dish type cap to snap to.

yea, I'm afraid that may be my issue.

Re: Project Patina Burb

Here ya go. A few different options. Higher than I thought, but would look sweet with those caps!

Re: Project Patina Burb

WOW, for that I might as well just go with the Mobsteel wheels that are $220 for 20's.

cubber 06-27-2013 02:05 AM

Re: Project Patina Burb

I wondered about that. I didn't know how much the Mobsteel wheels cost. If you are set on using the factory caps, I would definitely go Mobsteel. I think unless you are dropmembered, the 15 inchers leave too much tire on top when the truck is laid out. I like my 17's because they put the top edge of the wheel close to the fender lip. I bet the 20's would put it on up in there.

Yea, somehow scoring some sweet 67 caps got moved down to the 2nd best thing to happen to me today. I didn't think that was possible.

Thanks to Rus for selling me a set of 67 only dog dish caps. Also for Rus putting up with me as I talked his ear off. I pride myself at my job at reading people like a book and I could tell Rus needed to get to work, but I wouldn't shut up.

okay, guys I've been buying lots of parts lately but haven't been posting them.

Here's a shot of the 67 caps that Rusbuilt sold me

http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/m...psc59f8abd.jpg

Also, I went out to the Brothers Truck Show in Anaheim Hills last weekend and got a lot of ideas. The guys out there couldn't have been nicer and let me have an older California tag so I could put it on the front of the burb.

Re: Project Patina Burb

I've decided to go with a set of 15 inch steel wheels and I'm debating on the paint scheme. I would really like some HONEST opinions. Here's a pic of what I want to do, except with the 67 cap I'd like to paint my blue where the orange/red is. Tell me if you think that is stupid and I should paint the wheels blue, but leave the caps original.

cubber 07-05-2013 10:53 PM

Re: Project Patina Burb

I don't know how hard those caps are to find, if they are pretty tough, I'd probably leave them the way they are (especially since they have a patina already). I think they might look pretty cool as they are on some blue wheels. Is that the blue you are considering? Seems like the one your dash is painted in is a bit darker, but I could be wrong.

5150 07-05-2013 11:02 PM

Re: Project Patina Burb

No Matt, you are right. Dino's truck is just an example. My blue is the original medium blue Chevy. Here, like Rene's (C10 King) truck:

cubber 07-05-2013 11:13 PM

Re: Project Patina Burb

Those are both REEEAAALL sharp trucks. I like the medium blue better, I think. You should take some and paint one of those rally wheels you got laying around, and just kinda lay that cap in the middle to give an idea. I think the orange-red circle will make a nice "pop" like the color on the Cheyenne badges on The King's truck.

Re: Project Patina Burb

Don't post up that often but I am sure you could patina the caps with a matching blue and they would look nice.

Re: Project Patina Burb

Ok Matt, you convinced me. I'll leave it alone. I have an old 6 lug wheel here at the house. I'll clean it up and spray it. That'll give me a better idea.

Hey Bryan

Checked out your build thread the blurb looks awesome man I dig the caps. I really like the 15" wheel look.

Keep in touch man it was great to hang with you in Anaheim
Brian
