$500 bucket

5 Attachment(s)
Hi everyone,

Just wanted everyone to see my $500 bucket. I ruined my 65 chevy suburban's frame by rushing everything. As a rookie to fabrication I tried to Z the frame my self. I assumed my garage floor was level and did all my measuring of that. I also made c-notches out of 3x3 square tubing, again just rushed it to get the thing laid out. So this time i'm gonna do things right. Luckily all the stuff I purchased for the sub works for the 64 short fleet big back window I bought. I got a disc brake, drop spindle setup, I got a PorterBuilt Dropmember, a LT1 and 4L60e overdrive from a 94 trans am, a 10 bolt posi from a 87 suburban. Everything for airride including slam bags, 4 viaair 450's, 8 1/2 valves, and 2 polished tanks from a Peterbuilt big rig. I purchased New fenders, radiator support, header panel, and a reproduction chrome grill from the Goodguys Pleasonton car show. That's about it for parts, I still need alot. And alot of help from all of you guys. Thank You in advance.

I'll take care of that Chevelle so it doesn't get all dusty while you work on the truck. I hope things go better for you this time around.

Man, that's a pretty nice find. Sounds like you got all the parts to make a nice ride. Post some progress pics when you can.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the positive feed back. Williams Ca. Norcal.
I was wanting to get the truck media blasted before I started putting anything on it. What do you guys think should I mock up everything then tear it apart then have it blasted? I found the truck sitting in a feild in Knights Landing, Ca. I'll post some progress pics as I do more work.

Hi everyone,

I made some progress today on the $500 Bucket! I got rid of all the stock front suspension, and started bolting on my Porterbuilt Streetrods Dropmember. I never got sent any directions for the installation so having a Classic Trucks magazine article of the installation definitly helped out alot!
I'm going to start putting on the control arms next week. I'm waiting on my new ball joints and bushings for my stock control arms. Does anyone still now where to get Turner Industries 2" dropped control arms? I'm thinking about running alittle bit taller tire than the 29" recomended for the dropmember. Well thanks for any feed back on the control arms or if anyone nows where I can get a fleetside short bed let me now.

Hi everyone,

I got alittle work done on my $500 bucket. I've got over $2000.00 bucks in the front suspesion now and I still need shocks, and steering linkage. I planned on using my stock control arms but liked the looks and allignment advantages of the Art Strongarms, so I recently purchased uppers and lowers from Nathan at PorterBuilt Streetrods. Thanks again Nathan! I plan on running 22's all around but my brother in law owes me some money and is willing to give me his 20's so I 'll post more pics in a couple days when I get the wheels. For now I put on my tiny 17's. Let me now what you think so far, remember nothing is done to the rear yet so be nice!

Thanks guys,

The wheels are 17's centerlines 17x7 fronts 17x9's rear. But I got some newwer 20's to put on in the next couple days. So I want use the 17's anymore! I promise! Everything is just loosely bolted up right now, and
I got to cut the notches and install my power rack!

Hi Everyone,

I just got some time to put my new used wheels on my $500 bucket. I haven't done much to it in a while, but with the wheels on it I'm getting motivated! No need for the tiny 17's anymore! I want to get 22's eventually but my brother in law owed me a couple hundred and gave the wheels to settle up! Let me know what you guys think.

That thing is groovy. I'm not into the slamming phenomenon, however I will stay tuned. I like watching a quality build unfold, even if it doesn't fit my taste. Looks like a top-notch project. Two thumbs up from Kansas City.

Re: $500 bucket

Thanks everyone for the kind words! I found a decent big back window cab, and hope to be getting a new bed from a fellow board member if all goes well. I've had my LT1 for probably 3 years now and it never been installed into the truck, I hope to install it for mock up in the next week or two! Has anyone installed a 2 link and watts link setup on these truck? I wanna see pics if so! Thanks again for the encouraging words!
